Finished my play. Didn't make the whole year but whatever. Won't have time to play much more in the coming days.

It's update time !

So, when I last wrote, ducks were treated like vermin ! >:(
This poor condition of theirs will change during my reign ! I swear it !

Soon after my appointment, I - Sprig, the duckcare inspector - spent a long time quacking with the drakes, gathering their wills and requests.
I will do my best to accomodate them all.

A gathering took place near the nest boxes. The drakes were furious ! Dwarves were enslaving them !
The drakes were plotting bad stuff. It was a tense and noisy moment. Mutuny was in the air...

At some point, it went like this :

The duckverseer quacked :

To which the drakes quacked loudly !

I immediatly tried appeasing the ducks.
A revolution would have happened if I didn't !
After many concessions on my part, a deal was agreed upon.

I had work to do to improve the duck's well-being.
If I failed, I'd be pecked to death...

After this tense meeting, I had a list of things to do.
To sum up, it consists of :
  • Improving the ducks' freedom
  • Increasing the fort's level of Ducksomeness
  • More room ! More nestboxes ! More shinies for the duckies !
  • This one old duck had a peculiar request...

      ... I will explain it when time comes...
      .
  • The duck-secretary drew a strange schematic of somehting I should do.


       He said it would increase the Duckage level by a lot if we could build it somewhere.

Time for planning / building !

New quakers will be dug for our feathered friends !
The very large mayor's layer will get used and expanded for that.


This dream land shall be called Duck-burg !
It will have many nestboxes, of course, but also freshwater ponds for duckies to swim into, ducks statues, a beautiful smoothed floor and much more !


In the fortress, there is this weird empty, unfinished marble square room :

It seems unused, I will use it wisely for my projects.


I also asked the manager to produce a lot of useful items.


The figurines, depicting ducks surrounded by ducks, will either sale well, or help us improve the duckage level.

Some time has passed.
Good news ! Scrooge Mc-Duck's little project is done ! :)


This sturdy, unbreakable safe shelters lots of shiny coins.
Look at Scrooge waddling in his piles of money ! Look how cute he is !
Blue gold, yellow gold, bronze gold... You name a metal, Scrooge McDuck has a coin made out of it ! He's the richest duck of Duck-burg !

Spring ends, summer arrives.
Work is going well, the drakes are enthusiastic, but the dwarves are not all that happy...


(This is actually not the first dorf to do that. IIRC, Imic has stubled around one or twice before that...)

Depression ? Lack of motivation ? Unhappy dwarves ? :( ...

Whatever ! :D We have many other dwarves who feel just fine !
And, more importantly, the ducks are not depressed at all ! ;D ;D ;D

Look at them waddling in the soon to be finished Duck-burg :

Summer. Today, the drakes are restless...
Worried little quacks are heard in every nests...

"What is going on ? ..."



QUACK !!!



"PROTECT THE DUCKS !!!" I yelled ! "Hide the eggs ! Get the duckverseer safe !"

Luckily for us, the beast was on the other side of the river, giving us time to prepare the defense.
The ducks were hidden safely in Duck-burg, the dwarven warriors were deployed, and engaged the fight.

"CHARGE !", IcyTea (the war-leader) said




The fight was short, but violent :



Aftermath :
Casualties : 0 ducks, 0 dwarves.
Wounded : 0 ducks, 1 dwarf.



Damages are then very limited.
No ducks were injured during this movie ! This fight was a total success !

It is now time to resume the building of Duck-burg...

After the Minotaur fight, the Paddling Patriarch, DuckyLord, master of the war-drakes met me.
He was followed by a dwarf : IcyTea, who is the war-leader of the dwarves.
Behind them were a lot of war drakes. They were too many to count.

The old, but still vigourous, DuckyLord quacked to me in these terms, looking in the direction of IcyTea :

DuckyLord continued quacking.

"IcyTea could have been killed by the minotaur !
You weak dwarves need protection.
We, strong war drakes, will escort you weaklings !"



So, Yeah... I looks like IcyTea will be very well protected from now on.
Here he is, sparring in the barracks with his personnal army of drakes :

Work continues.
Projects get finished.

This one looks funny. And definitely adds to the duckage level of the fort !


It is made out of solid gold blocks. The eye is made with blue gold.
I hope the dwarves won't vomit on it...

Time passes.
The dwarves are doing wonders.
This guy really rocks at building nestboxes !



And this guy made an artifact.


Hopefully it makes mention of ducks...

Damn-it Reg ! Another useless artifact...

More time passes...

And eventually, by a warm day of summer, Duckburg is finally finished !
Let me show you...

This place is the only meeting zone of the fortress.
This is not a pasture.
Ducks are not slaves nor cattle.
Ducks are free !
They can roam in Duck-burg freely and dwarves won't ever pasture them.
No more constraints for ducks !
Ducks should go wherever they want.

1/ It was never written in the rules that I should play a whole year.

Meanwhile in the background, some migrant brought a cat! The first cat in Whisperwhip for a few years now, actually. The local population accidentally died of exploding over the years.

After 3 days, the new cat explodes.

We are mere ducks... We are small and live reasonable lives.
Dwarven fever of luxury strikes again !

We'll do just fine with "decently-sized colonnades of pure wood +Duck statues+"


But no panic, IIRC, applet found lots of blue gold. Maybe not enough for a megaproject, but enough for ducks to be proud.

(and it is duplicable if that exploit isn't banned here)

I personally find purposeful metal duplication against the spirit of the game, enough that I go out on purpose to avoid it - training with 90% melt efficiency items - unless playing some sort of extreme fort (hermit with no ores perhaps). But I'll accept whatever on this if the rest of the overseers want something different - or PsychoAngel does something more official.

To add some pizzazz, you should harvest geoducks. They're ducks, but less like ducks!
