What Comes After [SG] - Day 2, 10:30 AM

Introduction [Next]

The apocalypse happened. Really, the details don't matter much at this point. Unless you're a historian -- which you're not -- you don't need to concern yourself with the exact details of the past. Society's gone, technology has regressed, and people are going crazy. Not too different from before, really. You're here because you're quite tired of the new status quo. The lawless wastelands and the crazy atmosphere. For whatever reason, you have some experience with how things used to be. Sure, they messed up big-time, but some of their ideas weren't too bad.
Namely, proper civilization.

No matter what obstacles get in your way; whatever leftovers of the apocalypse are thrown at you, which psychos or different-minded individuals want to stop you; you're going to be the start of a new society.

But who are you? What are you starting with?
Background
A. Survivor - You were there when everything went to hell, and you were there when things kind of petered out, and you're here now. You've become quite good at surviving in any given environment.
B. New Generation - You weren't actually alive for the whole "apocalypse", but you've heard about it. Maybe from your parents, or maybe you never knew your parents. Either way, these wastelands are all you've ever known. It's always been normal. You're used to this.
C. Vault/Ark Emerger - Some government program, some private enterprise, something. You went into whatever these people had ready, and came out well after the dust settled. Maybe you were frozen, maybe you had to deal with canned meals and distressingly sparse amounts of toilet paper, or maybe you had some completely different experience. What matters is that you weren't there for the apocalypse, but you have a fresh outlook. While quite new at this whole shtick, your accommodations have left you very ready for this new world.

Assets
A. Nothing - You've always liked a challenge. You're starting with a relatively small amount, if any, of existing assets.
B. Archives - You came across, or already had, some data storage mediums of varying quality and data integrity. It's not much and there are a lot of holes, but it sure beats having to reverse-engineer broken tech and long-gone data scavenged from ruins.
C. People - Either recently converted to your cause, or always loyal to you, you're starting your mission with a small amount of loyal and not-horribly-incompetent men and women.
D. Weapons - Squirreled away by someone or some group (or maybe you) before the apocalypse, you're just now cracking open a small cache of shiny weapons sure to give you an edge. Hopefully they won't break too quickly.

And of course, your name, gender, and if you feel like expanding on it, more details of your background and/or assets (optional).
You are one person. Just with a brain that feels like it's comprised of people voting on things. ((This is a suggestion game.))

History of this world is unclear. Your actions will shape a path forward, but also define the past. ((The setting is akin to an open canvas, with the current day and past created as you go, depending on the player actions and GM fiat. While it can be if wanted, don't immediately assume this is some bog-standard post-nuclear apocalypse modern setting.))

You should really look to the wilderness for your stealth ideas, it has been doing it much longer than you have after all. Take squids for example, that ink trick works pretty well, and in water too! So you just sneak into the dam upsteam, dump several megatons of distressed squid into it, then break the dam. Boom, you suddenly have enough water-proof stealth for a whole city!

Name: Ardenaïs Leafwhisper
Gender: Male
Race: Elf

Background: We are an elf trader, mildly proficient in persuading and other people skills. While we don't know what happened exactly, we were lucky enough (although many elves would dispute that) to be underground making a call to a hamlet of dwarves when The Storms broke. It's been a few decades, but elves are long lived enough that the time hardly matters to us. We've finally convinced our hosts to open a hatch so we can go looking for other survivors. They built an airlock first, and we're not sure if we'd be welcome back, but at least we wrangled some decent equipment out of them in return for our animal taming work: a sturdy backpack and water skin, fire starting kit, rope, warm jacket and leggings, chain metal armor, and a sharp sword. Although we would have left without any of it: if we have to eat one more dinner of minced mushrooms in mushroom sauce we'll go bonkers for sure.

Bacground: We are a relatively normal individual, but we loved to someties simply go out into the woods hiking, to climb mountains and look down upon the Cities below, as they burst into... flame... is thst supposed to happen?
We survived because we were in an isolated area that saw little damage, or at least, there were no buildings, trees, or particularly large and easily toppled rocks to be crushed under, creating the illusion of less damage. As we wandered around, foraging for food in the old ruins, we found a cache of weapons, left behind by some unfortunate soul who no longer needs them. Hopefully, we can find shelter, more food, or just other people soon, since the Summer won’t last forever, and once Winter kicks in...

I promise I'll get a sheet out soon, just had work I needed to get done. Suggestion however is BB; some setting similar to Mushroom's one is good, though with significantly more (magi)tech than what seems to be implied.

Background: We're a miner by trade and we were there when everything happened, we saw the creatures come and kill everyone, we barely escaped with our lives the only things we manage to grab as we fled our home was our pickaxe, a backpack, some dwarven wine, and a handful of prepared meals. With these meager supplies we shall form the foundation of a new civilization, we shall strike the earth and forge a fortress that will rival the ones of the old world!

New Generation, Archives (BB)

Name: Jason Argon
Gender: Male
Race: Half-elf tiefling

Background: Like many born after the Reckoning, Jason was born with mutations - a pair of horns, night-sky purple skin, and a tail, in his case. He might have been picked on as a demonspawn, if it weren't that around a fourth of his peers were similar. And if there were really any peers around.
From what Jason had heard from his mother, the world's population had been decimated in the Reckoning. When the mana crystals used to power every aspect of the old world's life had begun to run out, nations went to war to control the remaining deposits. Newer, larger, more dangerous weapons were produced - and then used, despite the efforts of many. The Weave was completely disrupted, killing many, driving even more insane, and wrecking most magitech, including that used to construct and repair. Even many of those that weren't immediately killed died in the aftermath. Further effects weren't obvious until later, though - like those that resulted in Jason's malformation.
Jason's mother died when he was 15 - thankfully old enough to know how and be able to take care of himself. Seeking to distract himself, Jason threw himself into working with archaeotech, trying to understand the nonmagical parts of it so that he could get some semblance of the effects, and holding on closely to what mana crystals he could find. When he encountered others across the landscape, he would frequently trade them his contraptions for some extra supplies, and exchange information about nearby locations of note.
Recently, however, Jason found something new. Something different. An abandoned workshop - but he'd found those before, filled with scrap metal that was once a myriad of arcane wonders. No, this was different because it was wholly mundane - and in it, multiple contraptions in various states of completion, not a single one making use of magic at all! There were even notes taken down - scattered across the lab, but still readable - that explained the principles underlying each mechanism! It was a veritable gold mine of information, and usable information, at that. Hell, someone could build and entire magicless society with these techniques!

And the gears in Jason's head began to turn.


[To clarify some stuff:
Tieflings, in D&D, are people with some infernal (demonic or devilish, doesn't matter) ancestry. Here, they're basically magic mutants. There can 100% be other tieflings that are unusual in completely different ways.
All the standard fantasy races are here, of course.
The Reckoning is both the war for mana crystals and the resulting apocalypse.
The Weave is the background magic field, and the fact that it's been disrupted means that even if you can get your hands on a mana crystal and some otherwise-functioning archaeotech, you may just be in a magic dead zone or an area where magic effects are distorted; there are ways to figure out if this is the case safely, but it may not be immediately obvious. Most such areas tend to cause people to feel weird, though.
Archaeotech is just the remains of the ruined magitech.
Yes, there are people that can use magic directly. We'll call them, as a general whole, arcanists. They may be further categorized by magic source and/or how they use it.
Jason does not know his father. It is possible that they are still alive, and out in the world.
Yes, the name is a reference to Jason and the Argonauts. I don't actually remember much about the myth, but it made for a cool name.]
