Simple Boyancy
« on: May 13, 2019, 10:18:18 pm »

The concept is that you can build "fortresses" which float.

If a structure contains enough wood, it will become bouyant. Buoyant structures will not cave in if they are supported by water.

That's it.

What? You want more?

Ok, bouyant structures can move, using rotary power to drive propellers. Idk how this would work in fort mode, and it'd be pretty useless until more dynamic world loading is introduced. No rush though.

Planned already, with boats.

That's kind of what's been discussed regarding Boats. Toady described them as moving pieces of map. A while to go yet, but it's been thought about.

Well then. Have a nice day!

P.S. I'm new, can I ping or directly reply to users in some way?

Nope, you could use private messages, though.

Maybe you could create buoyant structures by creating two barrels wrapped with a rope and some cloth/leather tarp so that it could float independently with the level of water? A raft sort of spread out like a bridge.

Water elevator could be a thing this way, use a screw pump to raise the water with a pressure bell, raise the raft in a vertical shaft to the floor you want then divert the water away. Or ask a dwarf to try to paddle it in a broad direction to build on later, such as moving it to be a support for a ocean crossing bridge/foundation for a building, adventure mode travelling applicably.
