[Haspen]

"True. That's why I want to see if there's anything we can learn about those weapons. Coincidence or not, a brutal attack on a peaceful village with use of Reich weapons has potential to stir up hearts of some less reasonable folk, don't you agree?"

[Chevaleresse]

"I suppose a knight promoting to general isn't such an unusual thing." He turned back to the villagers once again, looking at the girl that'd pressed the bauble into my hands.
"I will treasure this forever, milady." He felt slightly bad accepting the gift from the self-admittedly poor villagers, particularly given the casualties they suffered regardless of their presence, but he figured that rejecting it would be poor form.

[GiglameshDespair]

"Hopefully this is the only village they attempted this at. If they've attacked other hamlets, too..."

[Haspen]

"I don't think we will be able to stop every one of them personally. We're here to gather evidence and find the culprit, not fight."

"Some recommendations for Governor Peritz are in order, though." The Captain let out a sigh, and looked around.

"Siegfried, now that apparently you've been promoted, you will take Niels and Brunhilde and find that Romuald. Try to see what you can learn from him. I will try to gather more information from villagers."

[Chevaleresse]

Siegfried nodded soberly at the captain's words, despite the jokes.
"Right away, Captain." He turned to the rest of the group, with a vague gesture in the direction of the inn. "Shall we?"

He moved toward the building, then rapped lightly on the door.

"Hello, Romuald? The town is safe now, and we'd like to speak with you."

[Haspen]

The door opened, and an elderly man with unkept, pointy beard poked his head out. He wore an eyepatch over his left eye, and scars ran across his face and neck.

"You are Reich." He spat after glancing at Siegfried's armor. "What you want?"

[Chevaleresse]

Siegfried blinked at the hostility, but didn't rise to it.

"Ahem, yes. There's been an attack on the village, as you can see, and we're trying to investigate who was behind it. Have you seen any strange or suspicious individuals in the area lately?"

[GiglameshDespair]

"Aside from the recent attacking horde. Or us."

[Haspen]

The old man glared at Siegfried.

"There have been many, travellers said me as they dined over past few weeks. Definitely spies and other Reich henchmen preparing the attacks! I think I saw few of these sneaky types at my inn once." The old man grumbled. "They wore hooded cloaks, but I saw the emblems on their shirts. I think it was some black cat on yellow or orange cloth. Or maybe red."

[GiglameshDespair]

"The Reich doesn't gain anything by slaughtering villagers, and it was us who stopped the attackers, you old goat."
He looked at Siegfried.
"Black cat on orange or yellow. Sound familiar to you?"

[Chevaleresse]

Siegfried gave a questioning glance to the wyvern rider. Certainly, the man was rude, but insulting him was probably just going to make their information worse.

"There is no Reich house with that sigil. I would know; if I didn't, my old tutor would have my head, I think." He turned to Romuald, speaking calmly. "As my friend said, we're only here to protect you and bring whoever is responsible for this to justice. Anything else at all that you can tell us will help."

[Haspen]

The old man shrugged, but his face betrayed that he didn't care to rake his memory much.

"Is all I know. You see, I like listening to rumors, but I ain't gonna risk my neck spying on guys in shadows."

[Chevaleresse]

Siegfried wasn't the best at reading people, but something told him the man wasn't going to be any more helpful.

"Well, if you do recall anything about them, or anything else that might be useful for apprehending the people responsible for this - rumors, sightings, the like - be sure to pass it on. Thank you for what you've told us." He inclined his head politely, then turned around to the rest. "Shall we report back?"

[GiglameshDespair]

Niels shrugged.
"Might as well."

[Haspen]

The Captain saw the approach of his subordinates, and finished the talk with a young woman.

"Yes? Did you learn anything?"
