She knew that reaction. That was the reaction of someone uncomfortable with the topic. He clearly had some issue with what she had just said. And it wasn't a terribly hard leap to figure out what. He'd been just fine talking about everything except her solution to the injury. A sad look swept across her face and she suddenly found her boots to be the most interesting thing in the room.

"Yes, well, it's not... Not important. I'm just... doing what I need to od for my house and the Reich. Injury or not, I still have a duty. ... And here we are back to noble duty..."

Jann's ear perked again, but this time it's followed less by a lightened tone and more shaking his head with frustration.
: "Never mind all that. You're all investigating, I'm helping get to the bottom of it. That's all the 'duty' that's relevant to any of us right now."
He takes a deep breath.
: "Haah..."
: "Anyway. I take it you haven't been too far from Blumhart since coming here, right? I take it Reichland isn't similar."

"We've been pretty busy. Everything has been about the mission. So not really any time for sightseeing. It's... well, in some ways it's different from home. But at the end of the day, land is land..."

The hunter scratches the back of his neck.
: "I'd figure the plants and wildlife in the Reich is at least somewhat different. It'd be most apparent with the food, and I'd doubt they've been shipping rations all the way from the Reich to keep you supplied."

While the conversation went on, Shaelynn seemed to have backed off a little to let Brun talk to the man from before - Jann, that was it - and the maid decided it was about time to have a chat.

"Shaelynn." She paused, not sure how to word this right, before deciding to just be a bit blunt about it. May as well take that leap now rather than beat around the bush. She was a bit quiet, too - no sense getting the others involved in a mostly private matter. "How are you doing? As in, after everything that happened on the road. Unless I missed a lot before I was hired, that was the first time you had to use magic like that." She didn't say it, but her tone made it fairly obvious what she was talking about.

Shaelynn sighed, but she was glad to have a chance to talk about it with someone less... Boorish. "I am quite alright now. I... can not say I will be any better should I have to do so again. But those men sought my life. That they lost their own was both just and necessary."

"You yourself were quite capable in the fray as well. I was unaware of the scope of your talents."

"Thanks. I don't think it was anything impressive, but well, I wasn't just hired to make tea and clean up." And it wasn't her first time in a fight to the death either but she didn't need to know that. "Honestly, you shouldn't sell yourself short; I've known people who would be sobbing wrecks after their first time in a scrape like that. The way you're handling it is pretty impressive."

Shaelynn smiled, but didn't seem well convinced. "I thank you for your praise, Simona. Hopefully we will be able to come to the end of the investigation without dirtying our hands further."

Simona should have expected that; Shae didn't exactly have the greatest self esteem.

"No thanks needed. Just saying what I see. I agree, though. This whole thing has been dirty business and I hope that's the last of it." She honestly suspected it wasn't, but no need to put anyone in a foul mood. So she shifted the topic...

"So, you were talking with that guy who helped us out? Anything interesting there?" Seemed a reasonable enough shift...

Shaelynn considered the question. Jann seemed to be, oh, what was the word? Defensive? Suspicious? No, not quite that. "He is a native of the Overseasland, and appears to have precious little love for the Reich. He seems to be a good enough sort, based upon his conduct, but he spoke poorly of my mother's family. I would suspect it is founded on a misplaced sense of national pride."

It's was then when a man in clashing palette of colors approached the group.

"You must be Captain Astleich, correct?"

"That's right."

"Sergeant Siegfried Bonefaz. My boss couldn't see you and the Headmaster is currently at a meeting. What brings you here?"

"You're Lord Bonefaz's...?"

"He's my uncle. Got me the job. So what brings you here? I'm a busy man myself." Captain Astleich spent few minutes recalling the happenings of the last one-and-half chapter, and because everyone keeps up with the IC thread, it does not need to be repeated.

"...I see. I will send men to bury the bodies. I shall report this to the local militia, too, so they keep their eyes open. I will ask my uncle to see you as soon as possible."

"One more question, if you don't mind?" The green-haired man's stare obviously betrayed the fact he didn't like it. "You mentioned that your 'boss' is away?"

"Captain Oislef? Yeah, he's on an errand to... Wyrmpeak, I think was it. Escorting an important parcel. Anything else?"

"No, thank you." The Captain waited for Siegfried Bonefaz to get away before turning part-ways towards Shaelynn.

"I would love to know the magic that lets one man simultaneously deliver a parcel while also visiting his family. How about you, Miss Shaelynn?"

Simona raised an eyebrow - after all, she herself was a "native" as well. "Whatever his opinions on that kind of thing are, can't be all bad right? He helped us in the fight instead of bolting at his first chance."

And then the man with a poor fashion sense walked in. Simona listened, and caught the same thing that the captain did. She sighed to herself, and idly checked if her staff was in good shape. She'd be needing it soon, she suspected.

"No, he certainly seems a good man, but-" Shaelynn stopped at the approach of the man, and only spoke again once he had left. "The magic of deception, I do not doubt. Wherever this Oislef really is, it would seem that these men do not want us to know. And if they are willing to lie to us of him, there is surely more they would sooner not divulge. We shall simply have to wait for this oh so important meeting to reach a conclusion, I think."

"Still, I have a feeling that Lord Bonefaz might be stalling for time, hoping that we get bored and leave. Well, while I wait here for his arrival, you should investigate the locale... it seems like some sort of festival or a mercantile day going on, though I don't remember hearing about any. See if you might get something from the passerbies and students." The Captain moved a step closer to the group.

"Move in groups if possible, though. For a long while now, the university militia is keeping an eye on us." And indeed, whoever would look to the left, would see a trio of uniformed macemen - they were alternating between giving passing glances to the visitors, and bluntly staring at Captain Astleich or people from his group.

Altha's eyes darted back and forth, pondering if she could get an excuse to investigate the school's library or collection. She had been annoyed at not having the time to get her hat mended and could use a diversion.
