Arms Race Arms Race Turn 3
« on: April 01, 2019, 10:20:02 am »

Welcome, Bay 12, to....

Arms Race Arms Race

In Arms Race Arms Race, you will simulate GMing an Arms Race forum game. Compete against other GMs for that most valuable of resources: Attention from strangers on the internet.

Each turn you will design a new Arms Race game, then see how popular and successful it is. A D6 will be rolled to determine how well your game goes. But beware- the more complicated your game is, the more difficult it will be! If you aren't careful, you will get burnt out before you can finish the game.

After running one game, you can run another and gain more fans. Adding and refining more concepts will make the next game more difficult to run, while using ones you are experienced with is easier. In addition to leveling up your game concepts, you'll have to keep coming up with creative themes to keep new readers excited.

Each turn, new arms races will start, and arms races which were running last turn will finish, but theres no actual phases.

The results of the D6 and the the difficulties mean what I feel like at the particular moment I'm writing your results. This added factor of randomness increases the game's excitement!

GMs, open your browsers! The writing begins!

Island Arms Race

Set during WWII, this Arms Race features two island nations competing for a chain of islands between them.  One nation will feature a large amount of starting naval tech while the other will feature large amounts of land-locked tech.

There are several different and exciting biomes for the two nations to fight over, but the majority will simply occur on the "jungle" island.  "Islands Race" will have a basic Arms Race phase set: Design, Revision, and Strategy.  A straight 1d6 will be used for all rolls, and credits will be handed out arbitrarily to encourage lively discussion among players.

Magic Race
This Arms Race consists of magical spells and equipment being created on the design and revision phases, with seemingly no other restrictions to them at all, with the entire Arms Race practically being an archaeological dig inherited from the original GM of the game. The real star feature of the game will be how my players light me on fire in response to every action and drive me into raw, pure suffering, which I will make a point of and then proceed to do two more anyway.

Turn 1

Island Arms Race: Hard [3] You realize you really made too many islands and the game drags on for months and months. The faction that started with boats seems to be beating the one that started with no boats, but they're still complaining constantly and multiple players threw big temper tantrums and left. Players dicker over the results of designs endlessly. Gain 5 fans but they hate you despite playing obsessively. You may revise your game before finishing it.

Magic Race: Hard [2] You have a hard time deciding how effective magic spells should be, but the game gets a lot easier to run when the players complete a magic ritual which deals the Veil and cuts their world off from all magic and supernatural activity entirely. You tried to argue against this, but the players were really insistent so you just kinda caved in. The game abruptly turns into a historical themed arms race where players just make different shapes pole arms. Gain 3 fans who think they know how to run the game better than you.

Arms Race Arms Race: Easy [1] A player copied and pasted the OP as their own Arms Race game. You should have known this would happen. You snarkily fire back by telling them that in THEIR shitpost game, people copy the OP as a joke. But how deep does it go? Gain 2 weird foreign fans.

Convoluted Dice Arms Race
In this arms race, we do not use your common or garden d6. Instead, we use a very simple 2d3+1d4+5d(2/3)-1dπ+cos(d3). This improves the gameplay so much that no other elements are needed.

Mage Race

This Arms Race features two competing upstart military mage services competing for relevance during World War I.  Players can either creatively design niche support roles to support an undefined order of battle against an opposing undefined order of battle or just make shock troops.

You should really look to the wilderness for your stealth ideas, it has been doing it much longer than you have after all. Take squids for example, that ink trick works pretty well, and in water too! So you just sneak into the dam upsteam, dump several megatons of distressed squid into it, then break the dam. Boom, you suddenly have enough water-proof stealth for a whole city!

Spy Arms Race

The players play as spy agencies in two different nations. Their goal is to subtly sabotage the other nation and take over from the inside.

Revision: Secret Game

In order to pad out the Island Arms Race and artificially create "depth", an additional "Secret" game will be added.  This Secret Game allows players to form hidden factions that critically affect gameplay, yet care is taken to assure that the game is never mentioned beyond teasing allusions at the end of battle reports.

Turn 2

Island Arms Race: [1] The secret game becomes more and more involved as players begin sending paper letters to keep communications secret. It ultimately ends in an attempt on your life when a player learns your address, travels to your home, and shoots you with an antique luger. He flees the scene leaving you for dead, but you survive the attempt and complete the game during your hospital stay as news of the event makes you a minor celebrity. You gain 20 fans.

Magic race: The game slowly peters off as players argue about the difference between a halberd and guisarme.

Convoluted dice race: [4i/7π] I'll tell you how you game went as soon as I figure out what this die result means.

Mage Race: Normal [2] Players are posting, but they just cant think of a single way to use magic to kill someone better than a gun. You eventually get bored and stop posting because it will never be like that one anime. Gain 1 fan who also watched the anime.

Abandoned Arms Race: You think about this idea, but decide not to do it because like twenty people did it already.

Spy Arms Race: Normal [4] This is going great! Players are sneakily devising ever larger and more powerful stealth weapons. After the stealth gun, stealth bomb, and stealth tank were used to subtly influence the opposition's government by both sides, one faction has taken a decisive lead with stealth artillery, which can subtly influence the political opposition's buildings into piles of rubble while the public is none the wider. Still you dont ostensibly have any fans, but you probably haven't noticed because they are stealth fans.

Arms Race Arms Race:

The players design arms, for robotic boxers for sale of sport as they must use their arm units. Hence Arms Race, Race.

Arms Race Arms Race Arms Race Arms Race:

Players compete to design the fastest arms to write arms races where military arms compete in races to write arms races that simulate game mastering an arms race.
