Hello guys!

First of all, I am not the developer of this game and I don't earn in-game money if I get people to join, I'm only an enthusiastic player. The game is kinda Dune Universe text-based game, where your Houses compete against or colaborate with other Houses by engaging in 14 different activities (called "Spheres of Influence"), from Mercantile (establishing trade routes between planets, influencing the prices of the commodities) to Finance (offering loans to other players) and Mysticism (establish your own Faith to gain influence with other Houses).

The game is totally NOT those copy-paste games where you build some buildings in your planet/city/tribe/whatever to improve your income and, after that, just clash your army-numbers against the enemy army-numbers, and the one with largest army wins (like oGame, Tribal Wars, Gregopolis, Ikariam, etc). The game is dynamic and the players have impact on everything. You found a profitable trade route between 2 planets? If you over-do it, you'll increase the price on the exporter world and decrease the price on the importer world, thus reducing/eliminating your profits. If another player finds the trade route, it'll decrease the profit for both houses.

www.ImperiumNova.com

"Imperium Nova is a free text-driven browser-based multiplayer game of trade, diplomacy, subterfuge, warfare and exploration, set in a remote galaxy some time in the distant future. The game is open-ended and has no set victory conditions or endpoint.

Each player takes on the leadership of a unique feudalistic dynasty, nominally subject to the Galactic Emperor but in reality competing with scores of others for influence, status and political power. The game aims to focus on theme rather than generic resource-gathering as seen in many alternative browser-based games, and involves elements of role-playing and character development of your dynasty members.

One 'game-day' takes 2 hours of real time to pass. Most operations you order will take several game-days to be completed. This slow pace means that you do not need to spend long periods of time continuously logged in to the game, but instead can log in as little or as often as your free time and ambition for success dictates."

Spheres of Activity

Mercantile: Establish trade routes in various commodities between trading facilities you have built on different planets

Politics: Submit candidates to run for office in the Imperial Senate, and thereby influence galactic policy.

Geological: Mine for valuable commodities on mineral-rich planets.

Covert Ops: Plant spies, collect intelligence and carry out missions such as sabotage and assassinations.

Agriculture: Especially good for new players since it is subsidized by the Imperial government.

Transportation: Ferry passengers between planets for profit. Also gives a boost to your House operational range.

Technology: Build research centres to expand your technical knowledge, and tech production plants to generate income.

Finance: Offer loans to cash-strapped players - for a healthy interest return.

Exploration: Fund missions to probe the outer reaches of the galaxy in order to discover new, uncolonised planets.

Construction: Build construction plants and receive income every time any facilities are built on that planet.

Military: Train elite troops and hire out mercenaries to warring Houses.

Psionics: Build psi-centres to generate income from psionic services. Also aids covert operations.

Mysticism: Establish your own Cult or Faith and propogate this through the galaxy, gaining influence as you do so.

Leisure: Operate recreational facilities where other dynasty members can wind down, for a price.

The game has become less active, so each galaxy has only a few active players. So, in an attempt to get things going again, I ask for people to join. If you like space strategy games and is looking for a quick game to play for a few minutes but doesn't want stupid plain games where you clash numbers against numbers, ImperiumNova is wonderfully made and really deep.

I played this a while ago, and whilst it's full of great ideas and good fun, it had the age old MUD issue that there were few people around and the ones that were didn't interact much.

I imagine this would be great if a group could get together to do a proper RP game - I'll wait to see how many more people chime in.

I was playing this a while back. Pretty sure we had another thread too... I might also be down if we could get a proper group together.

I also remember playing this a little bit a few years ago. If you like text based MP games with intrigue, it's cool.

Are there any changelogs available anywhere?  Or has it pretty much stayed the same for the past few years?

I can't find any - I think it's stayed pretty similar; there's certainly nothing in the guides or on the site that seems new.

Cool, I remember playing this for a while. Was part of a cool roleplay server until someone with no interest in roleplaying joined and started posting obnoxious stuff everywhere. Might be worth another look, I remember it being very fun if very slow.

I remember vaguely from the last thread that one of the major issues on all servers was one or more of the old guard players having a monopoly on basically-required spheres of influence like warfare and smashing anyone who started in that sphere. It was locking out certain aspects of the game to everyone else. Is that an issue still?

Any info about my homeworld Cebalrai returns:
Exception Class:   class java.lang.Exception
Message:   Error in getHomeworldForHouse method - no rows returned

Looks like there's no way to build facilities, and costs are 4 times my agricultural income.

The real problem seems to be signing up and getting placed in a dead galaxy with no activity.

Yeah that's mainly it - I think it needs a serious number of long term/committed players. Whilst it's fun, I'm not quite sure if it's quite good enough to attract and keep the number of people on it that it needs these days.

I'd like to go back to it, but then I think about all the other things going on (game wise and life wise) and wonder if I can be bothered putting the time in really.

It'll probably be an issue when the galaxy gets older.

I think that there was a full restart on all galaxies recently, as no one is too advanced. I'm at Gemini, and the most powerful house has ~350 influence and basically owns a few High-Tech plants across few worlds. The second powerful house operates in Psionics, and has a few (3-5) plants on a few rich world, and that's it.

Besides that, the tech rate is low, so people can't operate anywhere in the galaxy. And there's dozens and dozens of unexplored planets, as no one ever explored anything.

From what I understand, there was a few bug fixes. Mainly, trading the same products between two worlds and earning a profit from it is impossible right now, and Tech Pyramids became way less OP.

You can ask the admin, by email, to change galaxies. He answers the email in less than 24h.

I thought about moving to another Galaxy, but there was a good influx of new players in Gemini so I'll stay on it. There's been 5 or 6 new players in Gemini in the last 2 weeks.

Decided to try this out. It'll be fun seeing if this does what I hoped Might and Fealty would scratch for me.

"The game has become less active, so each galaxy has only a few active players."

Along with other comments about getting stuck in dead galaxies.
Why even have multiple galaxies if the player base is now small?

Dunno. The whole random galaxy thing is a bit odd in general, I guess I understand the logic in not wanting friends to blob up on public servers. Would be nice to be able to host private galaxies...
