...it's midnight. I shouldn't be writing anything up right now. I'll figure out a nice name for a deity tomorrow. Probably.

How about we start with a nice cantrip and a miracle?

Quote
Cantrip: Butter Fingers Curse
This very simple yet reliable cantrip causes anything being held by the target to just sort of fall out of their hands. Extremely useful in self-defense, in combat, and for impressing audiences with child-friendly demonstrations.
Heheheheh I had far too much fun writing this one up. My design inspirations are a little lacking tonight so I'll leave this as the cantrip proposal for now and move on to the next proposal.

Quote
Miracle of the Deathless
[Deity] is known for inspiring great feats of sacrifice in worshippers, and will occasionally grant one of their faithful great strength, endurance, and defiance in the face of impossible odds, the ability to do what no mortal should ever be able to do, no matter what the situation may be. Be it saving others from fire, or defending the fortress against hundreds of enemies, they persist until their feat is completed...but almost invariably suffer terrible injuries and die soon after. Only the worthy, willing to give everything, can be given so great a gift for even such a short time.

I want an explanation from Ebbor on how miracle design and the like works before we decide to actually try to do stuff with miracles, but I approve of the butterfingers thing.
We'd probably want to demonstrate it in both practice duels against the fort's professional soldiers (if we have them) and with them just trying to hold onto their weapons as hard as they can to show that it's both useful and not a fluke.

Glass is, as usual, correct.
Yep, as ever, I bestow upon Glass the expected +1
I'm gonna say we go with whatever Glass's idea is.

Quote from: Main thread’s OP on miracles
Miracles are grand actions undertaken by your God. They're the most powerful depictions of magical power that can be seen, but come with the considerable drawback that your priesthood does not actually get to decide the actions of a god. The god will decide when to deploy his/her/it's chosen miracle, and your priesthood may need to scramble to take credit for it.
The key point here is “your preisthood does not actually get to decide the actions of a god”.
Basically, what does designing a miracle actually do? Is it like it adding an ability to our god’s list of powers? Is it just asking our god to do something? What is it?

I was under the impression that it'd let our deity do a thing, but that they of course decide when they actually do the thing.

This is what I've been imagining, as well.

That is the correct interpretation.

For example, if you design a lightning smiting ritual, then your deity gains the ability to smite people with lightning. You can not decide who gets smitten, when they get smitten, and what for.

That said, if you want this to move forwards, you'll need to vote.

Alright, given the clarification on miracle design, I will give a +1 to Madman’s two designs.

We have 10 dice, each design costs 3. Anyone else have another idea? (Possibly for a ritual of some sort?)

I think that those dice may also be used for revisions, but if we’re planning on a third design, how about the ritualized military training thing I’d mentioned earlier? It fits the spheres we’re planning on, and it has tangible benefits even without direct divine intervention.

We have nothing to revise quite yet.

Quote
Ritual Combat
Our deity is one of strength and skill and bravery, so what better way to show all three than combat? Brothers of our Order engage in duels, to the first injury. Unscripted, unchoreographed, with real risk of permanent injury, to risk it all for glory, skill, and devotion. Of course, if practice may be considered to honor our deity, then surely the real thing is even more of an offering? Battle, or better yet challenges and individual duels with worthy opponents, is a far greater offering, though admittedly harder and more dangerous.

+1 to all three things that Madman has proposed.
I of course also vote for my stuff. If we get any alternative proposals we'll need a votebox but until then this probably works just fine.

The Deathless will be recorded in the fortress annals as great heroes, sacrificing life and limb for the sake of the family, friends or even the fortress itself. Comprising only the most devout, these valiant souls will fight on despite the most tragic of injuries. At least, that's what the annals will say.

In practice, the miracle has some drawbacks. For example, no engraving will record those who sacrificed their life to keep a simple sock from falling into a waterfall. In addition, while the miracle greatly increases the endurance of those it enthralls, it does not render them immortal, nor does it guarantee their success. Should they fail, their ghost lingers, eventually maddened by it's consistent desire to fulfill it's duty.

Gain 5 points progress towards the Duty Domain

Ritual combat.

The practice of worshipful bloodshed in a contest of strength, skill and bravery, all to show your devoutness and gain glory in the eye of the God. The ritual is all that it can be expected to be "thrilling, dangerous, often bloody". It's enticing, and seemingly great at currying favor with the Gods. The older and more jaded members of the Fortress also appreciate the dangerous but reveling form of entertainment, and a minor gambling circuit soon forms around it.

The Chief Medical Dwarf, Major and Captain of the Guard do not appreciate the unruly behavior and constant stream of injuries however, and a crackdown swiftly follows. While they can not patrol the entirety of the ruined fortress and thus eliminate the practice entirely, they do deny you the utilization of all well suited spaces, forcing you to fight in mining tunnels, catacombs and the abandonned cisterns.

Gained : 10 Favor
Gained : 25 points towards the Combat Domain

The Butter Finger Curse is an unremarkable, but very useful and convenient little cantrip. With a simple key phrase and a hand gesture, whomever the can trip is pointed at will loose their grip on whatever they happen to be carrying, forcing them to grasp for it lest it falls to the ground.

Gained : 4 Favor
Gained : 25 points towards the Trickery Domain

Domain Unlocked
Combat 1&2
Your Unnamed God will provide his most devout followers with a small boost in most organized combat
Your unnamed God shows some preference to direct, violent solutions to problems

Trickery 1&2
Your Unnamed God will provide his most devout followers with a small boost in matters of deception
Your unnamed God shows a tendency for trickery

It is now the revision phase. You have 1 die.
