The Fortress: Side 1

Main Thread

Greetings, Hallowed Priests

The Fortress is in disarray. The remaking of the world, the disappearance of the old Gods and the reappearance of many creatures thought to be myths has shaken Dwarven society on it's foundations.

But from the Ashes come new beginnings. A new God has revealed itself to you, willing to lead this fortress to glory and prosperity. You've already pledged your faith, but many in your fortress are still uncertain.

Design your myths and rituals, miracles and cantrips, and win the hearts of the dwarves in the fortress, so that you may secure your divine favor. Because in this new and dangerous world, you will certainly be lost without it.

This is turn -2. You possess 10 dice, and it is the start of the design phase.
Each design costs 3 dice.

As an added challenge, you must provide a name for your God.

Proposed possible names:

Acter
Sendar
Ssael
Autochton
Vulkan

Some design ideas:
Adeptus Mechanicus-style machine-spirit appeasing to make the traps and, later, more advanced mechanisms work better.
A cantrip akin to D&D's Guidance spell, that makes someone better at doing something.
A cantrip that summons a small mechanism, such as a lighter, calculator, or clockwork toy. (Note: this and first ritual crossed out because I just noticed the "Don't try to kick start the industrial revolution." thing in the OP)
A cantrip that re-energizes the target.
Ritualized training in one field or another; blacksmithing, mining, or military likely good ideas.
Cantrip to enchant equipment (elemental imbuement, mend it, something else, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ).
Ritual for luck in mining (and, probably, associated cantrip for either helping find stuff or turning stone into more useful materials).

Ritual for high yield in plump helmets?
Maybe a miracle doubling the beer output for less plant?
Something that can turn piss into beer?

Please note that rituals don't actually do anything, just look impressive, while we can't control what a miracle does.
Turning piss into beer could potentially be a cantrip, but I'm not sure people would still find it appetizing.

I'd start simpler: What sort of deity do we want?

I think a god of war might be a pretty awesome choice. We could then host tournaments and such in our deity's favor which would serve an actual purpose---improving the fortress's defenders. Cantrips that knock weapons out of hands, melt helmets, or trip foes would be very useful in combat for obvious reasons.

As may potentially be able to be gleaned from my development suggestions, I was kind of thinking of a god of specialists/people with training - thus, things like the ritualized training and the "do it better" cantrip. It's both noticeably useful while also allowing us to relatively easily move into advantageous spheres - yes, including the military. The other primary idea (derived from me really liking the concept of science gods) was essentially focused on industry - thus the blacksmithing and mining cantrip ideas.

Ultimately, I think a god associated with improvement in one's chosen field gives us the most room to A. accomplish stuff, B. claim credit for stuff that isn't necessarily our doing, and C. acquire new spheres as convenient.

Eh, maybe. However, a "god of specialists" is both generic, obvious (because you joined our team) and not as just flat-out cool as a heretical war god. Go for some variety once in awhile :P

Then how about war and industry? It gets the key points in, makes us likely to appeal to a large portion of the fortress members, and gives us a clear idea of what we should be developing.

Of the names I proposed earlier, I suggest Ssael for this.
I stole the name from a webcomic, and there's a religion around him having killed the gods of the other most notable religion.
The webcomic is called Unsounded.

I do like the idea of War and Industry; mayhaps with more of a war focus, mayhaps not.

Still; the Weaponsmith who churns out countless blades, the Fletcher who crafts the finest crossbows, the Bonecarver who is hurriedly making bone armor so that the newly formed militia has something to protect them, even the Cooks who craft the best lasting rations... All would have this gods favor in addition to those whom directly fight.

What about God of War Industry?
No, because that’s too specific. War and Industry implies War Industry pretty clearly while still allowing us a broad quantity of other stuff, including things that are far more applicable to fortress life.
Such as War itself.

Exactly!
