So I was trying to find the quartz nodes in the Savanna / Rocky Desert. My pings would helpfully lead me to a wide open grassland with basically nothing there. There was obviously a cavern underground, but I just could not find it. Finally ended up Googling the answer, which led me all the way west to the coast, where I had to blow up multiple boulders and gas rocks to finally find my way inside.
It turned out great, since, in addition to the quartz, there was also a SAM node, which I had been looking for for quite a while to unlock all the new stuff in 1.0.
But anyway, I follow the cave system to find the other exits. One exits out onto another beach on the western coast. The final one, however, was a bit of a shock - I recognized it, since it was my entire second base/steel factory. The entrance I had been looking for was mere feet away from a ramp I'd used probably dozens of times to go up to my steel production units - there weren't even any of the obstacles I'd had to overcome from the other entrance; bloody thing was just sitting there, open, waiting for me to notice it.
Relatedly, the SAM-researched storages are
amazing. Being able to have a constant supply of building materials while out-and-about is great; as is being able to just put stuff from your inventory into 'the cloud' when you run out of space.
Oh, and a nifty trick that I read elsewhere - once you've unlocked the upgrade that lets you double production with Somersloops, do yourself a favor and run all your energy slugs through it - 2x overclocks!
