Archery contest s and other dwarven competitions
« on: March 20, 2019, 09:41:14 pm »

I would suggest adding different competitions you could hold in your fortress such as an archery contest or a wrestling contest. There could be prizes for the winning dwarves such as a nice item of clothing or trinket. I would like to be able to collect all the best marksdwarves in the kingdom  for a test of focus and skill.

Yes, the intention is to move the contests and festivals into regular play. When that happens we'll likely see it in both Fortress and Adventurer.

And conversely, I hope we'll see archery competitions added to the list once other sites start building archery ranges and other training facilities (which I think they don't right now?).

Hopefully if there were contests it would influence my archers to spend more time at the range, when they first get recruited they are undisiplined and almost never show up

We could have contests for each skills, meaning some places might hold poetry competitions while others might hold swimming ones.

The more prestigious the contest is and the greatest the prize is, the more contestants might come.

Allowing you to trap them all in a room full of water, letting you loot millions of Urists from their corpses.

On a side note, I do hope that at one point we can hold competitions and charge contestants to enter so that turning your fort into the super bowl is a viable strategy.

FWIW, there's such competitions in worldgen already, but not yet it the background world-sim, because the histfigs don't know how to perform them yet. I think the idea is to have them show up alongside all the other public behaviour stuff that might come in the law and property arc.
