The volcano is down in the bottom right, directly next to two mountain peaks.  If you are careful, you can get 3 biomes : mountains, saltwater and freshwater marsh.

That's quite the embark, thanks for sharing it.

Screenshots of "fun topology"?

At work now, sorry no screenshots.

Its got the start of a small stream in the north in a small, flat, lowland.  I don't think the stream ever freezes.  There is a huge mountain like an inverted V that dominates the south up to the center.  Half way up the mountain are two small plateaus with trees, on the east and west sides, that are perfect for fort entrances.  A little further up is the cauldron, and the peak just shoots up like a knife in the middle, cant remember how many z levels, but a lot.

I play "naked" dwarf fortress so I have no idea if there is any coal yet, didn't see any in the river bed but the 4x4 embark is 1 square salt marsh, I think 3 or 4 squares fresh marsh, and the rest mountain which does contain marble, magnetite, and hematite.   The marsh areas have aquifiers for water works (forgot to mention that in the OP) and lots of deep soil and clay.  Pretty sure the surroundings are wilderness with lots of giant animals.

Where exactly is the embark ? i tried generating the world from your mapgen setting, but in the bottom right there's no volcano (there's volcano everywhere else, just none on the bottom right area) so a screenshot of the exact place would be useful

In the lower right corner is a volcano out in the ocean.  5 steps west and 2 steps north is a volcano next to two large peaks, in a swamp.  That's the one you want.

a few screenshots of the area , using TWBT multilevel rendering feature so you can actually get a nicer feel of the actual landscape

That's the one.  Thanks for uploading the pics.  And btw the worldgen parameters are for maximum volcanoes + rivers + flux/coal/iron, after much fiddling.   I turn down good/evil as I find those biomes limit civs,  including goblins and necros.  Still working on how to get volcanoes to spawn closer to rivers.. 4 spaces seems to be an intrinsic aspect, unfortunately.

Damn this is a great map just did a few test embarks.
Unfortunately all the 2x2 or other small embarks giving you Lava are in Saltwater Marsh. North there is the brook and freshwater marsh but that means you have to do a bigger embark size.

edit: interestingly there is a second "almost volcano" two tiles above the real one going up to lvl 86 where the first cavern layer is. The brook surface is 108 so you could do a nice 2x2 embark there without the real volcano but still enabling some nice stuff

Oooh that's cool!  I found a freshwater aquifer two z levels under the brook layer,  right under where it comes together. I found coal but no aquifer in the SE corner of saltmarsh close to the volcano.  If you dig down deep here the layers eventually go igneous intrusion from the main magma chamber.

Have you made butt loads of Obsidian swords? They'd be super useful against the hippies.

I was thinking of caging them all and releasing them into their new home in the caverns.

Ohhh that seems like an amazing idea. Please do tell how that works out.
Though honestly I'd love to see Obsidian weapons in use.
I haven't had the chance to test them in adventure mode or in fortress.
After some reading their effectiveness varies. Some people claim them to be a bit better than training weapons, while others say it has the most sharpness in the game. Which all and all is quite interesting.

I just think that as woke hippies, they will truly appreciate their natural place as a balanced part of the subterranean food chain.

Make sure they cannot leave off the map edge.  They will seek to escape there!
