After expanding north a little too far, magma and sand started to rain from the sky over the arena.

Armok is pissed that you would bypass his method of generating a world by using the arena, so he destroys your precious world with magma.

You escape the confines of The Arena, a barbaric place but the only world you have ever known. Outside though there is nothing: no life, no warmth and no rules. As you breathe your last chilled breath you long for the warmth and order of The Arena.

Er...sorry, building menu? I'm using 44.12 LNP, so yes, this could be a DFhack thing, but otherwise I'm not seeing it...

After you've assumed control of a creature in the Arena, press 'b'. That is the building menu from Adventure Mode. I have a stock copy of DF, and I can confirm that the building menu comes with the stock, unmodded game.

That's incredible. Couldn't you bypass the freezing issue by playing as a blizzard man or the like?

Actually, yes - it was just me being slightly confused, back there, about how to do it in the testing arena per se.

Just saw this, because of the new posts... Wow, it’s the DF answer to the far lands.

Reminds me of this old engraving:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flammarion_engraving

From the accompanying text in Flammarion's book:

"A naïve missionary of the Middle Ages even tells us that, in one of his voyages in search of the terrestrial paradise, he reached the horizon where the earth and the heavens met, and that he discovered a certain point where they were not joined together, and where, by stooping his shoulders, he passed under the roof of the heavens..."

Another relevant quote from François de La Mothe Le Vayer, who at one point tutored Louis XIV:

"With respect to the bounds (of the Earth)... some monks of the tenth century of our era, bolder than the rest, say that, in making a voyage in search of the terrestrial paradise, they had found the point where the heaven and earth touch, and had even been obliged to lower their shoulders!"

...

Godspeed, ye merry monks!

(Yeah, its been a year or so now...)

Can anyone just reproduce this in full in the current version? (at least up to 'tunnel' stage) If possible, a save at that point would also be appreciated.

Works just the same in 47.04. No change, no difference in methodology needed; it's all the same.

Step 1: Spawn in a sentient creature that can build (a human's used for this demonstration), and take control of it.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Step 2: Enter the build menu, and designate some stuff. It doesn't really matter what it is. Just has to exist. No, you do not need any materials to start building. Then start work.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Step 3: You've executed the glitch, and you've broken out of the arena!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Proof:
You can scroll beyond the arena.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The land beyond the arena.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'm 90% sure it exhibits exactly the same behavior as it did in 44.12, but I can't check right now.

(Ah, crap, I forgot my DFDD password; if anyone would like to upload a save file glitched like this, please do. I'm not delaying others because of my incompetence.)

The only reason I was asking was, obviously, because of another failed attempt - there seems to be some sort of category difference between 'constructions' and 'buildings' per se, in this context. In any case, a 'construction' doesn't apparently suffice to execute.
