I like worlds that have at least one area of VERY steep cliffs to carve into giant architecture. To find such a world I generate many of them at pocket-size then survey them. I throw away any world that doesn't have a peak (represented by a ^) right next to a non-mountain biome. I then explore the remaining worlds using Isoworld and the embark screen of fortress mode.
Here is a map of the world I chose for this series. Its name is Êrnïr which means The Infinite Land in dwarvish.
I export my worlds maps and history using the DFhack command "exportlegneds all".
It looks like most of the world is filled with goblins who have been at war with the dwarves.
The leader of the goblins is a demon named Emxa Ustrungokang.
I found him in the game by embarking near his dark tower. Many dwarves died to get me this footage.
There is also a necromancer's tower in the southeast of the world.
Wow, that's a lot of zombies.
I noticed that the world is currently in "The Age of Roc and Forest Titan". A roc (a giant monsterous bird) destroyed the only dwarven fortress in the world. All that remains of the dwarven civilization are hillocks.
The roc resides in Soakedlancers to this day.
Now it's time to actually play the game starting with adventure mode. I created a demigod mountain goat man named Dodok. Here are his starting stats.
I immediately dropped my waterskin and found a bag among my fellow dorfs belongings. It can carry way more water. I also found a bag of plump helmets. Delicious!
I got in an argument with the dwarven king urging him to join me in killing the roc. He refused so I found two drunks who were willing to go instead. First thing on the agenda was finding a stream to fill my water bag.
And with that, we treck to Soakedlancers. We aren't ready to fight the roc yet. We have a lot of training to do and need proper equipment but I just can't resist the urge to take a peak. Maybe we can steal some of the equipment from underneath the roc's beak.
The place is a little eerie with no dwarves around.
While exploring the labyrinths we stumbled upon the roc. Cilob the drunk sucker punched it immediately and knocked it unconscious!
Olon and Cilob wailed on it. I only got one stab in before it succumbed to it's wounds. I got A LOT of meat and bones from the bird. I also carved one of the bones into the likeness of the roc.
I looted through the fortress some more. I found all the gear we need plus a fancy gem.
The dwarves weren't as excited as I thought they would be and Olon got all the credit. I left the roc's skull and the gem on the pedestals.
