Horse recruit does not want war.
« on: March 01, 2019, 08:34:04 pm »

Got a weird thing going on.

So I've made it my mission to drive the goblins back into their AppaRanTLY UnAssAiLAbLe ForTreSS nyehhh and kill all the ones who live anywhere else.

To this end I attacked the sites that the goblins had taken from the humans. I razed it to get as many goblins as possible. Turns out there were a couple of humans still living there, and I'm now at war with a small, very battered human civ.

Anyway the humans laid siege to me after a few years, sending more goblins than humans on account of there being more goblin outcasts in their civ than humans due to their many lost wars. Among their siege forces is a Horse Recruit. Lol, but check it out.

Spoiler: Look what it's got. (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: And then it saw me (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Final update (click to show/hide)

I'm not going to lie. This is interesting. The whole new forced siege thing is leading to fun bugs. Although I've always found animal recruits to feel like unwanted bugs. I mean how long can the giant crocodile recruit follow me around for.

That... does sound like a draft horse carrying army supplies to me ?

It's a recruit for some random reason.  :P

They decided to draft the draft horses.

If I read the date correctly, they attacked in the beginning of winter, so more like an actual siege than a wayward caravan. Maybe they are recruiting the caravans because they have no ordinary soldiers left? Next they will send children.

I mean, part of my goal was actually to save the local good races from the goblin menace. There are 3 gobbo civs in the world, and all of them are clustered up north in one latitude. The human civ is apparently so battered that goblins have de facto power over most of their settlements, even though they are still listed as "human". Some of their hamlets have 2 humans and 30+ goblins.

Anyway one goblin civ has been driver back into their fortress and has something like 7 goblins remaining inside as their total civ population, outside of a couple hundred ogres and trolls and a demon master (preventing my taking it, or so it seems). The next target has suffered some sound defeats, and has begun counter-raiding me.

It may be nigh-impossible to best a lord of the underworld by strength of arms, but if you show up with a strong enough military force and demand surrender, you just might be able to convince the remaining goblins to deliver their lord unto you, helpless. If you succeed, your dwarves will simply execute the nasty and take over.

But if you take over that way, don't your forces stay there to occupy it? I want my military back ;-;

They... do.

Maybe you could raise the pop-cap for awhile, equip whatever migrants you get in masterwork goblinite, and send 'em out after a couple years of training?

Yep.  Except the new site administrator will not come back.  Although if someone else takes over the old administrator can be requisitioned.

Well that sounds reasonable. Can I decide who the administrator is, or is it just like, the initial leader of the occupation forces?

No one else seems to have this problem, but when I did it some of my dorfs tried to leave again, and after I cancled that order those two that left just kinda... vanished, never saw or heard from them again, but I can't replace them,  but the squads raiding potential doesn't seem to have diminished so I think they still show up for raids some how
