Giant flying ice boat? Or the bottom half of something much, much larger?

Regardless, it's gonna be magnificent.

A utility that takes information from Dwarf Fortress, and uses it to display a 3-dimensional projection of your fortress. Vp's using it to produce those marvelous screenshots of his.

That sounds cool, so with it is it possible to, for example. Play adventure mode in first person, or is just for screenshots?

No idea. Here's the link to the home-thread, though.

The view from above:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's time for another break-in in hell. Dwarves built second demon-catcher equipped with a flying platform. It's basically the same design as the last demon-catcher in Relicdips:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Residents of Glazedfaith added to it 100 cage traps and a tame giant spider beyond fortifications. Somebody pulled the lever, 38 demons arrived, the giant spider spit to them, 6 demons got caught. Then fire-breathing dudes incinerated the spider and started to chill in this chamber. That's the lower z-level:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And that's the upper one:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The fort is 16 years old:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The pump stack reached the surface, I forgot that magma melts the ice unenforced with b+C+f, so now I have an obsidian roof over the stack:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Another elven army arrived, they have poets and bards in their ranks:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

They are equipped not with guitars or bagpipes but with ordinary elven shitty weapons:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Dwarves built third demon-catcher, miners dug third entry to hell, demons ignored it completely. I ordered to install a hatch over the adamantine tube but dwarves delayed the construction and then out of the blue 5 demons entered the fort. Fortunately, they appeared to be pathetic, civilians killed them all immediately, I was surprised to find out that such demons exist:

The third demon-cathcher finally attracted a single fire demon, it committed genocide of bait cats:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Somehow it managed to get through fortifications:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

RIP poor cats:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I missed a path from hell to lower caves, demons sneaked in:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Invaders arrived, 220 elves, 57 war tigers, 24 war leopards. Dwarves gathered a whole lot of loot:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I noticed that local circus isn't very funny, those degenerative clowns die too easy:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Something strange happened. An ordinary dwarf suddenly became sort of outcast for other dwarves for no reason:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Soon they killed him.

An elven slave girl accompanied human invaders:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

New Armok Vision has crazy graphics:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The big white cubic foreground thing is a polar bear, he doesn't fuck a depressive woodburner, he just steps over her.

Fortunately, it's possible to turn this feature off:

Another tragedy of commons:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Once...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

...35 tamed bugbats had met and...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

...fought each other for a long time for no reason:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Fourth attempt to get demons out of hell has finished the same inglorious way as all previous ones. The long meandered corridor filled with furniture had attracted only two demons who had arrived not from hell but from lower caves:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Another invading army arrived, interracial one, it consisted of 71 humans, 71 dwarves, 50 horses and 21 goblins. Most probably the army belongs to human civilization. Few dwarves are equipped with bows, it's unusual. The icy construction does not tilt, it's just a perspective distortion:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

New Armok Visions shows dead bodies:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This particular corpse belongs to a puffin bird that died of old age. Also new Armok Vision shows miasmas, it's great:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A dwarf in strange mood mutters his name when crafting:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A demon sneaked through underground half-volcano to upper caves where dwarves gather wood. A 109 year old lady killed him with a single strike:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It reminds me famous Russian meme about fucking circus with degenerative clowns:

The great bugbat battle raged on more than a year:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I found out that in new DF version human invaders can mount horses:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Elven invaders apparently don't use this feature, their horses are friends, not a transport.

Dwarves finally managed to reach hell's bottom with a stairway:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Demons got out of hell, placed themselves nearby:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Another invading army arrived, filled up the titancatcher:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Another werepanda arrived. Two spearmasters bit it from opposite ends, it looks somehow pornographic:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I found out that adamantine is more durable than dwarven flesh:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Empty hell suddenly became a transport hub, it's much easier to cross the map through hell plains than through meandering cave corridors:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

One of main features of icy construction has been visible. It's a big magma bomb that will be released when somebody pull the golden lever in the eastern part of the construction. The lower part of the bombshell consists of crystal glass floodgates, the higher part - of magmaproof ice boulders built with b+C:

Sorry about replying to a thread so late, but better to do it than not. I see you returned to blogging only with the lack of attention. Reasonable enough, I suppose.

Well, vp. Your insight into ice, and immediate applications, is both useful and beautiful. Shame about the vomit dwarves spill everywhere aboveground.

Transparent ice ceilings and walls remove the problem of surface blocking the underground skyscapers of dwarves, neatly removing the main issue with displaying them.

I wasn't aware that flame FB bodies maxed out at 20,8kU. This might mean periclase or dolomite aren't entirely flame FB-safe. Unfortunate.

It's a shame you didn't manage to keep elven prisoners....prisoner.

Mayor's photo OP is quite the idea.

- - - - - - -

There's probably an use for animal infighting. Minimizing combat, maybe?

The appearance of flight is always neat.

Humans with elephants coming mean they come from tropical shubland - but you're on a glacier. Small world? In any case looks like the dire wolves are poking their heads through the ice.

- - - - - - - -

Cleanup is always a problem. Though it's probably easier with cage traps, it's somewhat weird that what it takes day to defeat can take month to dispose of.

That's  crystal glass floodgate? I can barely see it. But isn't there risk of cave-in with water...Ah, of course. They'll be pumping magma.

...I think one of your demons might have had deadly dust, and they all were fragile. Jeez, what an own goal.

- - - - - - - - -

I was wrong.

- - - - - - - - -

I like how the pipe sections line up with each other to make one giant pipe.

- - - - - - - - -

Armok vision showing decorations really adds to artifacts.

- - - - - - - - -

Pigs and dogs standing on pedastals. Wonder, do elephants do that too?

And guess it'll be giant ice boat, filled with magma, and capable of dropping ballast. It'll be symbolic.

- - - - - - - - -

Poor spider. On the other hand, you have demon capture pretty well down....

- - - - - - - - -

Poor cats. Demons didn't go according to plan! Shashana warned us, and now the fort is twice burned. But jeez, an enemy able to bypass carved fortifications without jostling from their allies or dodging archers? What a nightmare. I thought that wasn't possible.

Oh hey, elven slave prisoner. Now this is thematically appropriate.

- - - - - - - - -

It's starting to look like your best bet against demon would be simply some ranged weaponry, what's with all of them being fragile AND unwilling to be trapped.

Ah, I think I understand why icy construction "tilts". Perspective calculations not taking the additional distance from z-axis into account.

What a view, looks like the ship is about to fall on the army.

- - - - - - - - -

"Elven invaders apparently don't use this feature, their horses are friends, not a transport."

Beautiful. "My little pony is for  friendship!" Also means the humans will leave when the horses become afraid.

Looks like the titancatcher has become armycatcher.

Jeesh, that werepanda. Bites all around. None infectious, but still.

Oh wow, hell's transport hub. When your roads are so bad it's literally faster to go through hell, it's might be time to reconsider fortress design decisions. Such as how you can make it cooler.

- - - - - - - - -

Looks like humans learned about riding horses: Don't.

Shame about the kid

- - - - - - - - -

So, taking army to the underworld after all.

Hm, seems like your grazers go through boom-bust cycles with that small cave moss area. Combine with reanimating ground, and there would be a steady and automatic supply of corpses for military training.

- - - - - - - - -

With loafers and strand extractors getting renamed to assholes, I suspect idle hands are bad for dwarves in this fort. Tavern is depressing.

Though them taking up noble menu is somewhat annoying.

That figurine has pretty boatmurdery description, with the dead billy goat. Rules of nature.

- - - - - - - - -

307k to dwarves? How come your caravans are that big?

Also looks like invaders are losing steam.

PS: The handwritten artifact descriptions do very slightly help my utterly awful russian, with help from google. They're not exactly very spectacular, but they're not pointless either, though with 30-40 artifacts in a decade they are no longer so momentous occassions.

Spiral supports are growing:

There's a whole lot of prisoners in the fort:

Another elven army:

Madness overwhelming. A lot of tantrums, a lot of depressed dwarves everywhere. I expel anyone after first tantrum, if it's impossible for any reason then that person becomes a leader of a squad sent to an impossible mission. The noble screen becomes surreal:

A dwarven artist created a dead goat figurine in memory of livestock's holodomor:

The fort is 30 years old:

A dwarven artist depicted somebody looting a book:

It still looks quite ghostly or cloudy, like an another plane extruding onto stone grotto.

Once the spiral supports are complete, will the sealed stairway to heaven disappear? If you do cave it in, maybe take a pic/video of the smoke cloud.

Book being lost might have been razing instead - but that's quite the abstract art, and there are other meanings that could be extracted from book of dirt withering away than it being lost in a siege, such as overfarming same crops.

Most probably not.

Fell mode created the Dreamhatred:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's funny that this is a pun in Russian, "dreamhatred" (мечтоненависть) sounds the same as "this sword hatred" (меч-то ненависть), although the latter sounds much more unnatural.

That's the girl who fell victim:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Her name was Inod Ushrirluslem, she was 22, she was born in the fort. Her father works as a cook, her mother had gone crazy many years ago. Inod had very dark skin, she was like an afrodwarf. She said that she's bisexcual but she had no real friends. She loved to grow plants and hang out in the library. She was weak, clumsy, creative but overall foolish but very joyful and humorous. She prayed to Usen, deity of metals, and Oshrar, deity of mist. RIP, Inod, your memory will remain forever in a museum display case:
