Obvious:

Constructed floor suspended by horizontal support, attached to lever.

Drop floor in vicinity of invaders. !!Magic Dust!! is emitted in a cloud, that envelops some of them.  Scene from DeadSpace happens.

Possibly less obvious, and untested:

Place an ammo stockpile around the area where the tile will drop, that forbids bins. Fill the stockpile with ammo.
Drop the floor into the center of the stockpile, producing the cloud of dust. (assure dwarves are not around!!)
The dust settles on the ammo as a contaminant. Enjoy Huskifying Bolts of Doom. (wear gloves when handling.)

Wait, the zombieification is a good thing? Is instant necrosis one of the effects of this cyclic rainbow dust?

it CAN be...

see Loud Whisper's zombie bacon experiment. ("bacon like a pro" I think...)  Zombification increases body mass instantly, meaning if you zombify your meat animals, THEN kill and butcher them, you get significantly more meat per animal.

In weaponized bolt form, huskifying horror can be used to cause an invading force to turn on itself quickly and relentlessly. Just use sparingly.

For the second question:

It appears the game cannot find a soil material, and so cycles quickly through *ALL* materials instead. this includes ones that cause huskification, those that cause horrible syndromes, and even normal materials. (look on the floor after a cave in, you will find piles of things like gold dust and the like.)  The effect will be random, because there is no way to predict which of the rapidly transmuted materials will be "on" at the moment of dwarf contact.

This just makes it even more fun to use.

Yes, I'm in.

This looks like a nightmare.

I suppose that means that a waterfall won't produce the RNG dust... would you end up with RNG dust in the bottom of wells? replacing the typical "dusting of soil"?

Also, count me in, this looks like a circus of an entirely different nature.

One of my favorite quick-and-dirty tricks is draining a cistern by opening the "maintenance" gate attached to it, thus dumping (the water, hopefully) into the fortress and letting it drain into a large evaporation chamber at the bottom of the central staircase. That will produce waterfalls.
Assuming what you said is correct, that trick would be a mistake on par with unleashing the HFS without having some bridges to turn into walls at a moment's notice.
The !!FUN!! levels are growing much faster than expected.

I tired embarking on a cave entrance, and it ended up taking the form of what I can only describe as a giant demonic anthill:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
This cave continues downward through layers of, in order: Infernal soot, Creeping ash, Evil gloom, Foul vapor, Sandy clay, Malachite (not veins, giant areas of the stuff), Creeping gloom, Puddingstone, Petrified wood, Graphite, Profane ash, White sand, Slate, entire layers of lignite, and then normal stones forming the first cavern layer. I also found some deposits of divine metal along the way:

Exploring the caverns (and the roaming profane clouds on the surface) proved too deadly to allow me to try draining a pond, but the beach is genuinely terrifying:

The "LSD soil" is apparently safe to walk on, just not breathe/contact in dust form. (oddly).

To farm, one MUST grow on mud. I have determined this so far.  There are ZERO surface plants anywhere I have embarked, so there are no surface crops without using dfhack. (there are grasses, and willow trees... but no other kind of tree, and no harvestable plants. Probably because "no soil tiles, derp!")

This should make the game a bit of a throwback to the .40d era...

Assuming the worst-case scenario, reanimating evil biome, no rivers, no aquifiers, no murky pools and (somehow) no cavern water, is there any way for a fortress in this glitchworld to get enough food to survive?
I'd imagine that the embark would have, like, 5/7 hammerdwarves, but that's just conjecture on my part.

cavern should have water. I did not futz with that in the worldgen spinner.  Murky pools should exist just about anywhere, and aquifers are a thing.

We should just not be so foolish as to embark someplace we cannot make mud.

Turnlist update!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

That's just about everyone accounted for. Should we PM the four who haven't said anything yet, just to be sure?

Chuck me further down the list, actually - as I've got another game ongoing that I'm not keeping up with quick enough as is.

Sure. How far down do you want to go?
