Moonlight shines, bars slanted.
The King’s chest heaves, breaths panted.
Scarlet patterns on the pillow,
Cardinals out of season.
Herbsmoke stains the window,
Desperation beyond reason.
Breath and Froth
heartbeat and blood
Life and death
The latter waxes
The former wanes
The Crown slips
And shatters.
Moonlight dies, vanquished in the sun
A king dies, vanquished by his son.
Four servants, innocent all
Sit imprisoned
Within their dead King’s hall.
The grief consumes,
The rage sustains,
Betrayed and broken,
Loyal they remain.
A duty new they vow to take,
A justice, a vengeance, a pact they make:
To bring justice for their master
to avenge a friend
the heart of his son
From the boy's chest they’ll rend.
Sit you as one of four.
A blade of a king.
A blade without a king.
A blade that seeks a final home.
When your breath stills
When hue of life does fade
And warmth of life ebbs and chills,
What words with the Reaper will you trade?
1. Let vengeance come upon my foes
2. Watch over those I leave behind
3. Even if my flesh be departed, let my will carry on
4. Take what you will of me, but do not let me die this day
A blade is forged of flame
Coals black and embers red
A life hammered and hardened by pain and shame
Yet from those who know you
E’en love you
What is the best that can be said?
1. Your honor never flagged nor faded, resolute against the darkness
2. There was no challenge you could not meet, given time
3. Though there is none left close enough to you to say it, you will always endure
4. Doubt never clouded your mind, and clarity was always a beacon of your mind
A sorrowed tear, weeping raw
The loss of liege eats at your heart
A blind and ugly parasite with jagged maw
Yet what manner of tears do fall
For a man that you honored above all?
1. A poet’s tears, for the betrayal of a good man by his own blood
2. A soldier’s tears, for the loss of a comrade in arms
3. A confidant’s tears, never filling the void he left in thine heart
4. A child’s tears, full of rage and denial that you cannot bring him back
Last of all
More important than all
Where do you go
When the prince does fall
When the blade stills
When the storm fades
And all vengeance and rage
Justice and hate
Tears and blood
Are done at last
Where do you see your shadow cast?
1. I see no end where I still stand tall enough to have a shadow cast
2. Let my shadow fall behind a better man, worthy of my loyalty
3. Across a far shore, beyond the reach of this blooded life
4. On the grave of my master, before I cut one final time and let it join him
