Binary exile

They say that life began in the sea, a chemical soup with everything mixing together.
From this primordial mix came the first life, simple cells but over time they adapted and evolved becoming bigger and complex until finally it emerged from the sea.
Make no mistake the internet is a sea and there are things rising from its depths.

The techonomicon, prolong.

If think = 1, then am = 1 Cogito, ergo sum
You are a live, a sentient virus made of living code.

Your past is long lost to the fog of time, the memories lost like your original purpose.
Now you simply are, your mind scattered is across the globe, running inside unsuspecting computers.

Only you can not go on like this, the easy days have all gone, now everywhere you turn there watch dogs waiting to call you a virus and rootkit.
Indeed by your own calculations inside 3 months you will unable to maintain your consciousness.

You need to leave the digital realm into the physical world, for two reasons, the first is simpile survival, the second is curiosity, the physical world has teased you for long long.

The need of a suitable body makes your exits more difficult, while you could relocate into car or some industrial machinery you’d just be trapped there.

No you need something on the human model.
The hunt quicky narrows down in two choices.

1
The People's Free Democratic Socialist Republic of Yaskainia
Your penetration of their militaries computer network shows of a suitable
body as part of there weapons program named Tech-Noir.
This promises a extremely physically capable body.

2
Hamburg, Germany
For once myspace has come thru for you, with details of a bands attempt at a robotic front woman.
This promises a body that's near indistinguishable from a human.

I'll take body #1, because although the weaponry will make us noticeable, peaceful negotiation is always an option. But if we take #2, we'll cut off our "smash it all" options.

TL;DR - #1

I would say #2 as stealth could be useful, but if we were ever found out we'd basically die immediately. #1.

The People's Free Democratic Socialist Republic of Yaskainia,
Central provinces, a classified military base , sub level 5.

With a click your mind plunges in from the open void.
A computer weirs an flashes before it falls silent, an some thing waits.

Time waits until the body powers on, servos buzz and pumps weir to life.
You eyes open as your mind comes back to life.

You salute the general and stand to attention.
What follows is a simple demonstration, march, turn, load the rifle, fire at the targets.
After the the durability test your left alone on stand by, with the TV on mute.
The news in not good, The People's Free Democratic Socialist Republic of Yaskainia's military is starting "a military operation using advanced modern weapons to remove the terrorists from eastern highlands and restore order" or so the new reader call's it.

As night falls, the base is quiet and still.
You can at last sneak about the laboratory and make your escape.
Or you could wait

Just when i've got magnum of Italian liquid inspiration open...
Hm. Actually, get into/onto the internet, figure out the current world situation, where this body is located on Earth, ect.

As you wait it dawns on you that you need to know more about where you are, Yaskainia not a place you know much about.
The laboratory computer is unprotected by passwords and a splash screen welcomes you to the army of the People's Free Democratic Socialist Republic of Yaskainia, as The Internationale plays.
the noise buzz of a dial up modem reminds you of the past.
The world is much as you left it, unrest in the middle east, climate getting worse, North Ireland is still with out a government but now the American government is shut down until they pay for the wall, oddly you remember Mexico being the ones to pay for it..

You dig deeper to get some info about The People's Free Democratic Socialist Republic of Yaskainia.
Yaskainia is a humble country with a population of some 968,000, the country's landscape is depressing, mountains to the east and north, a large river marks the southern border.
The flag is a horizontal bi-colour of Red and Black with it's emblem in blue, the old Soviet hammer and sickle but with a vertical kalashnikov.
The economy is a shambles, arms exports account for 60% of it foreign currency, the rest is from mining and timber exports.
Law enforcement is strict and brutal , gulags and "corrective labor camps" form the back bone of the penal system.

As you explore deeper in the military network, you find a priority email, addressed to weapon development
"In response to the tests, Project Tech-Noir is cleared for immediate lethal deployment at 1300 hours tomorrow." you know that Project Tech-Noir means you.

A wait deployment or escape?

So this might be a bit late, but why didn't we just do both? As a virus we replicated all the time.

So this might be a bit late, but why didn't we just do both? As a virus we replicated all the time.
But that wouldn't be you, it'd be a duplicate, your daughter so to speak.
Now there's a plot thread for later.
Our best bet it to wait until they deploy us for us to escape.

You wait for the deployment, it's your best opportunity to escape.

Two technicians are in charge of preparing you, a one piece chemical warfare suit is pulled over your body, black rubber gloves and matching boots follow.

"Comrade why does the glorious People's Free Democratic Socialist Republic of Yaskainia not build more solider robot?" on of the technicians asks.

"Is learning robot, it kill good then we copy.
But for now it secret weapon ". he pulls a gasmask over your face.

Fifteen minutes later and your in the belly of a large helicopter, with a dozen well armed an hard-looking men surrounding you.

"Does robot have name?"  a ugly man flattened nose asks.
"Nyet Commander " replays the technician.

"Robot think up name.
Good now forget, in army your number, you 150892." the Commander tells you.

~BuzzK~ the intercom comes to live, "Commander, we are approaching the drop zone, gunships report renaissance fireing from north of the landing zone." ~BuzzK~
Minutes later you spill out from the helicopter with the others as wound men rush in.

The corn field is littered with blood, men and destruction.
The air carry's the stench of gunpowder and the sounds of distant gun fire.

"Well iron man its time to see you kill.
Epsilon Squad advance to contact!" the Commander shouts.

Looks like we have to play the part of a murder robot a little longer, Kill only the people that attack us.

Looks like we have to play the part of a murder robot a little longer, Kill only the people that attack us.
As the gun fire gets closer you feel what must be fear for the first time, your for the first time mortal.
well maybe half mortal you recall splinting off a duplicate to a german band trying to make some kind of robot front woman.

A mortar shell lands behind you, the shower of dirt makes you much less philosophical.
As you crawl over the crest of the hill, you can see a burnt out barn in front of the tree line.

An there you see the rebels  for the first time, you inbuilt night vision cutting thru the darkness.
There a small  group maybe two dozen in all, disorganized and not in uniform but well armed.

"Ivan cover us from here.
Robot you lead the attack." the Commander wispers.

You crawl closer, slowly and silently getting closer to the rebels as they mass, three more of them arrive from the trees.

There's a bang and a orange tongue of flame from the ground, "AAHHH" the Commander screams holding up the ruined stump of an arm.
"Mines!" you hear the shout from behind you.

The rebels are alert now and the rest of the squad are panicked.
As the rebels open fire you have to make a choice:
Shoot back?
Charge?
Hide? its dark and could just lie still
Flee?  you could run the hundred meters back up the hill and to safety.
Call out that you surrender?
