2045 Winter

Opportunity Results

They expected us at NASA. Else there is no explanation for the fiasco that transpired during the raid. Army soldiers and SWAT teams awaited the agents and the quick raid became a prolonged assault, drawing more and more ordinance on both sides until the neighbourhood was left a smouldering crater. Even a few tanks got involved, much to the dismay of the teams working on the siege. In fact, the Initiative lost many good soldiers and agents in this raid.
However, they did manage to secure the blueprints for the portable fission generator and managed to destroy most of the facility, mostly done out of spite against the difficulty of the mission and the loss of comrades. While the generator itself doesn't seem to work for now, the data of “Project Exodus” is promising and can be finalized by Initiative researchers.
In any case, this shows a worrying trend of US and UK operatives being aware of the Initiative actions and have taken steps to hinder progress of opportunities. In fact, more reports state that they are now actively hunting suspicious activity to find out who this unknown enemy is.
We cannot let them find out.

Project Exodus unlocked
Small Military Force (experienced) obtained!

The raid on the Russian military lab almost went similarly, but VDV forces stood down after Boleslawich pulled some strings during the operation, reducing response time and response might while Initiative agents operated, claiming it was a false alarm. Quickly the lab had been secured and the prototypes secured, the blueprints acquired and critical personnel extracted.
While Boleslawich ultimately burnt his grace with the Russian Federation, declared a traitor and had to be extracted to the Antarctic before he would he been sent to a gulag, he seemed happy with his role in the operations and overtook military planning for the Initiative, gathering a small staff of officers from around the Globe who already aligned themselves with the Initiative.
The rifles themselves were, as promised, quite powerful in initial field testing, although hot environments seemingly has the unpleasant side effect of caseless ammunition to “cook”, cracking their shells and rendering them unusable and sometimes dangerous when they go off in the barrel and damage the metal.
It is also hard to produce with current Initiative capabilities and probably hard to integrate into Project Genesis. However, their stopping power, reliance and compactness are nothing to sneeze at, as well their ease of use since recoil is well-compensated in a lightweight package.
If desired, Project Holodny will try to address the issue of producing ammunition for the rifle, even in off-world conditions and integrate the blueprints into Project GENESIS. This will require a complete redesign, however.
The Initiative has obtained so many researchers and skilled personnel of many fields that organisation has become quite difficult. Thus, departments have been formed to ease organisation and make them work in their fields if so desired. While generalist approaches are still possible, having the specific department for a Project will further it significantly.

AVH-23 obtained!
Project Holodny unlocked
Small Weapon Design Department obtained!
Small Programming Department obtained!
Small Physics Department obtained!

Project GENESIS is finished, for all intents and purposes. Loaded on a tower of a small car, about 640 Petabytes of industrial blueprints, agricultural techniques and survival strategies has been written and compiled. It includes a printer for blueprints, visualisations of buildings made for standard templates, analytics and troubleshooting for every single piece of equipment, hardware and software coming out of its library as well as an extensive entertainment library and cultural-historical archive of Humanity.
This is all written in Initiative-native code and capable of rewriting and addition, as well as any piece being, technically, open-source and selfwritten. Copy protections have been cracked for items sourced from outside data, mostly for the cultural artifacts carried within the Genesis Library.
Attached to it is a 3D printer, capable of printing out starting equipment and basic weapons.
Some soldiers and scientists use the printer to make game consoles or miniatures for table games. This is tolerated, for now. The situation is tense and people could use some downtime enjoying things they deemed lost when stepping through the portal.

Genesis Library obtained!

Project Cargo stumps the Swiss and German engineers (most of which have joined the cause willingly by now), as building roads in an arctic desert proves to be very difficult. Or making a convoy of vehicles that operate in the Antarctic as well fit through the portal. The portal itself isn't terribly big, with vans seemingly the best method of delivery for Project Cargo. However, this brings its own problems, namely road conditions and power behind the vehicle to stow cargo.
The conclusion for now is to make halftrack vans similar to old vehicles created during World War 2 and use engines functioning on a petrol-ethanol mixture to combat the harsh conditions of the biome.
Projections of increased cargo capacity is about 150% more than we have currently if everything works out smoothly and a solution for extensive road systems can be found.

Opportunities

Rebuild UK network

Rebuilding the UK network will take effort, a good measure of blood and bribery, but it is within the capabilities to do so. However, this might risk further exposure of the Initiative to Great Britain and the US.

Attack chinese black prison

Our recent smash and grab also revealed the position of a chinese prison for political dissidents, many of them researchers and scientists with too liberal or democratic notions or being revolutionary firebrands of some sort. Attacking the prison and freeing the prisoners will ensure some more brain power behind the Initiative.

Kidnap Emily Knudson

Emily Knudson is a Canadian botanist of some renown globally as she devised a GM crop able to withstand the mounting acid rains in the northern hemisphere, even though this mutation of the rye plant tastes highly fungal. However, securing such a bright mind  would be beneficial for the Initiative.
All that needs to be done is hijacking an air plane mid-air.

Tip off Canada

While this will progress into a war between Canada and the USA, tying up the USA in an early fight with their northern neighbour will take attention away from us as they will expend resources to destroy the threat.

Kidnap French Scientists

Concurrently French chemists work to remove the worst outbreaks of acidic rain from Europe by conducting field research in the french wastelands, where the rains are the worst. "Rescuing" them from these operations and integrating them into our RnD team will lead to valuable additions.

Project: Stability
Frankly, while the world will likely go to chaos in the near future and that's the exact reason why we're doing all this, there are two things that we want:
A.) Delay the inevitable collapse into chaos to allow for us to make best use of the world's resources before they go to, ahem, shit.
B.) Maybe allow for humanity to survive on Earth, if not as well as we will offworld.

There are two main targets for this project: U.S. -- planning on conquering Canada -- and Russia -- making ominous military moves threatening Europe. For now, without definite intelligence of Russia's military plans (and not wanting to risk exposing our Russian network), we focus on the U.S..

We have to be subtle, yet decisive. Tipping off Canada, for instance, isn't enough. U.S. would see the threat and move in to prematurely conquer Canada. So instead, we strengthen Initiative presence in Canada. We leak weapon blueprints. We create diplomatic backchannels with important Canadian officials. We allow them to know about the US invasion without encouraging them to act on it or tip off their hand to the U.S.
Canada would never be able to fully hold its own against the U.S.. But maybe we can make them strong enough to make it enough of a risk for U.S. to reconsider invasion plans.

Not only would this keep world stability up, but it'd also give us stronger presence in Canada and North America. Perhaps having proper relations with a country could lead to some major opportunities for us.

(TL;DR: Subtly strengthen up Canada enough to make US reconsider invading, and to increase our relations/network in Canada + North America)

Frankly, none of the opportunities seem that smart. Hurt world stability (French/Canadian scientists, China black prison, tipping off Canada), or are too risky (UK network). Probably best to work on projects for now.

So you just sneak into the dam upsteam, dump several megatons of distressed squid into it, then break the dam. Boom, you suddenly have enough water-proof stealth for a whole city!

Genesis is nice enough. I was hoping for a roadmap on things we need to bring to get a stable (+growth) colony, but then, it went faster than expected. Ensuring we have everything we need to hit the ground running is another project I suppose.

2046, Spring

Opportunity Results

Project Cargo steadily chugged along in spring, with several prototypes, based on the Genesis Library, tested, discarded or revised. One of the obstacles was deftly removed by no other than the constant need to grow out the base – Instead of roads, a vast tunnel complex has been established, connecting disparate way stations and  outposts of the Initiative to it, solving another logistical issue as well.
The rubble, stone and, surprisingly, ores resulting out of this large-scale excavation have been re-purposed and refined to more building material for the colony, which is a plus.
Estimations of finishing Project Cargo before Project endgame are optimistic. In fact, redoubling the effort, so the engineers, will see it finished in this year's summer already.

Project Cargo advanced
Small Material Stockpile obtained!

Project Exodus proved a little bit more complicated with many of the blueprint parts incompatible with the Genesis Library, rendering it virtually useless as many of its soft and hardware is dependent on US military signals and dependencies. Redesigning it was necessary to even work with the available data. The underlying principle, however, is sound, even though the Initiative cannot possibly miniaturize it to US-desired levels in the short timespan available.
So they settled to design it to fit into one of the cargo containers of Project Cargo instead of being fit into the trunk of an SUV. This increased volume helped to combat one of the problems with the design as it didn't need to fit into a smaller module of a seedship, instead utilizing the transport capacity of the portal device.

Project Exodus advanced

Project Holodny seemed like a walk in the park in contrast to Cargo and Exodus. While initial complications on how to produce ammunition have been anticipated, the Genesis 3D printer proved powerful enough to actually do so relatively easily, creating the shells which only needed some secondary refinement processes to be filled and capped. The design, typically Russian, was very simple and rugged as well, making it a breeze to slightly readjust and integrate the template into the Library as well, the programming department and the design department working hand in hand to quickly get this done.
The AVH-23 will be available on the colony as soon as critical industries for it are set up.
The design department as well wonders if they should custom-create other weapons for the colony.

AVH-23 integrated into Genesis Library

Project Stability only had middling success. While Canada knew, apparently, that the USA planned an eventual annexation, they hoped for it to happen later rather than sooner. Especially not in 2046. Their army was in serious disrepair. Boleslawich did his best to establish contacts in the upper brass of Canada and gear them towards a defensive war, while simultaneously Initiative agents leaked tidbits of foreign invasion to the CSIS to keep them on their toes. Politicans had been approached, talked to, bribed and sometimes threatened to make them aware of the immediate threat of the USA.
Weapon designers and military industrial complexes had been infiltrated and fed information to more advanced weapon blueprints, such as the AVH-23 and the Honey Bee, to strengthen their military power, but the USA kept their schedule up and invaded Canada in March.
Even as Initiative agents helped against the onslaught of the US war machine, in form of dummy PMCs or “civilian militants”, the USA managed to occupy Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick within weeks, breaking the resolve of the Canadian Government.
However, due to the focussed intervention of the Initiative, a charismatic, young Quebec colonel managed to hold together civilian and military groups and form a guerilla group called “Canada Libre”, harassing and delaying further American occupation, tying up their forces and diverting attention from Initiative infiltration, strengthening the north American network again.

Opportunities

Destroy trust

With a revived network in the USA we can attempt to destroy the trust between the USA and the UK, who still support each other. By making this a non-issue, we both weaken the resolve to hunt us down and maybe have an easier time infiltrating Great Britain again

Kidnap French Scientists

Concurrently French chemists work to remove the worst outbreaks of acidic rain from Europe by conducting field research in the french wastelands, where the rains are the worst. "Rescuing" them from these operations and integrating them into our RnD team will lead to valuable additions.

Rescue Lukas Bourbon

Lukas Bourbon is a bright mind in political sciences and economics and the head of one of the biggest Canadian oil companies. He is also currently held captive in a CIA black site, trying to break his will and try to use his approval of American occupation to subdue the Canada Libre movement. Rescuing will strengthen their resolve, but also maybe secure one of the better economists of the world.

I have an idea for a project, project: uprising
a project to design and distribute a large number of 3d printers/specialized manufacturing devices for our AVH 22 rifles, to the uprising in Canada. Hopefully wreaking havoc on the US's attempts to consolidate power in the region. It may also include the distribution of honey bee fighter aircraft as well.

I think we'd be better off waiting on Project: Uprising, until we want everyone to face well armed rebels.

I'm tempted by a project to proliferate the nuclear reactors. Cheap energy for all!
We'll probably want a project to build them, both to power the portal and to get us started before we have all the industry set up to build more.
