A long, tense night came for the warriors of Sampia. A true attack on their homeland had not come for generations, and was now suddenly at their doorsteps. Some were filled with dread, others anticipation, but few were calm, and fewer still found it easy to rest for the coming battle. At first light, as the sun peeked up over the horizon, the warcamp was brought to life by the roar of the King. The assembled Laguz swarmed to activity, readying their march to war. In under an hour, the earth rumbled beneath the footfalls of the Laguz. By midday, the Laguz met Morcia's troops in the field, and the smell of fire and blood spread throughout the forest...

But Steelhart's group was well removed from it, circling around the battlefield, seeking to reach the rear of Morcia's formation. On the march, Wolfgang had made his intentions clear to the mercenaries: He would make his way to the commanding forces of the first group they could encounter, so long as it wasn't already engaged with the Sampians, take command under his authority as Prince, and from there be taken to General Whart, the apparent leader of the invasion. As one of most hawkish members of the Morcian military, it was possible that Whart would not stand down, but with a full company behind the Prince, Wolfgang was confident he could force it.

Unfortunately, the first group that the mercenaries were able to find was already in the process of burning down a small village...

She felt the wind shift around her, a breeze that caught in her hair and was gone again. When it was this way, it was almost easy for her to forget that she wielded it as a weapon.

Claire felt her footsteps become light as Grae rallied everyone to charge, and before her the others crashed into the enemy line, claws and talons wreaking havoc. She took several steps forward, her hand on her fading tome, and called the magic within, the feeling of it surging forth as familiar as an old friend.

Soft, as it parted around Aya. Hard, as it coalesced into an edge as sharp as any blade.
