Grabs Rowan's hand.

"I'm riding with you. Can't exactly travel quickly myself."

"Should I take the front guard or the rear guard then?" Jill asks. "Hopefully we will not be attacked again on the route, but if wishes were horses there'd be no more room for people."

[SirAston]

"Fine."

Rowan grasps Venza's hand and helps him get up to his steed's back.

"Hold on tight, boy. As for you, Jill... Take the rear guard with Beowulf. Priscilla can take the lead while the others stay inbetween. Sir Albrecht, it's your duty to make sure that you're the wall between potential enemies and Her Highness, Erica and Johannes, in case of a potential flanking attack. If they try a pincer attack, I'll swoop down to secure the other side."

"We should travel quick and talk to nobody. Until we're definitely sure who we can trust, assume everyone is the enemy or might well be working with them."

[GiglameshDespair]

Priscilla shook her head.
"That's not the best idea. ."
"I'll be carrying the princess, so best I stay in the centre. I'm also the slowest, so it'll be harder for me to respond to a potential attack from the rear if I'm at the front. "

[SirAston]

"You want to carry her all the way?"
"I wonder what the people of Ondeviik would think about that if you marched in like that..."

Rowan sighs.

"Plus, I wanted you in the front precisely because you're too slow to react swiftly to back attacks. Why do you think I put Sir Albrecht in the center and made the formation center- and back-heavy in the first place? You're supposed to shield us if we are at the receiving end of a pincer attack from the front and the back. Let Sir Albrecht carry Her Highness on his horse, close to Johannes and Erica. That's the best protection I can imagine right now for Her."
"Jill is still decently armored while having the direct support of Beowulf. Sir Albrecht can move to any front swiftly while Johannes and Erica can reach both the front and the back more easily. You can stand well alone no matter what kind of attack we would receive. Also, please don't forget that you have me and Venza keeping our eyes open in all directions."
"I'm no tactician, but I believe this to be a well-rounded solution."
"... You have five seconds for objections that don't involve exiguous details. If I don't hear any, I'll start flying and you start marching. We don't have time for a quarrel."

[GiglameshDespair]

"Don't be disingenuous. I'll carry her until she wakes up."
"I'm by far the most suited to guarding the Princess: none of you can protect her as I can. For that, I need to be next to her. If I was at the front and they attacked from the rear only, I'd be little help. "

She scooped up the Princess from where she lay.
"Go on and fly. We'll be relying on your eyes."

[SirAston]

"Sir Albrecht could still drop her off next to you when that happens..."
"Eh, I forgot you can be stubborn at times. Do what you want, tinhead."

And with that defeated expression, Rowan takes to the sky.

~~Intermission A: Change of Heart~~

The journey to Ondeviik took about an hour on foot.

The commerical city of Ondeviik must've been hit by a blaze, for many of the buildings right inside the city, behind the gate that Princess' group entered, were but cinders and ruins. Many other buildings were damaged, and shops, once open and bustling with clients, were closed, many promising return of their services when renovations are complete.

Princess Sophia, who woke up from her fainting spell a while earlier, said and did nothing. Her eyes were affixed on her hands, which she had rested on her lap. She was carried by Albrecht, his tall body hiding her from whomever might approach them fron the front.

"Pri-" Albrecht bit his tongue, let out a hum, and turned his head sideways. "Miss Sophia, shall we take a rest, or do you wish to see the garrison's commander first?"

"..."

"Miss Sophia?"

"..." Albrecht let out a deep sigh.

"I think it will be best if we first find an inn for the little Miss to rest at. Objections?"

[SirAston]

"No objections... but this place really is a mess."
"I guess the Lichteisen household wasn't enough for these dirty rats... Sister Hede, Sister Jeta, please watch over the people trying to rebuilt what has been lost..."

"If we can find somewhere for her to rest here.....this is an utter mess."

[Haspen]

Albrecht nodded, and the group moved deeper into the city.

Here, in the center, the buildings were intact. The blaze must've been localized. In all other directions there was no sign of damage, just the northwestern quarter must've suffered.

People went about their business, and peddlers peddled their wares. Albrecht stopped by a sign that was showing a goat rearing over a beer mug.

"I guess here?" The knight mused, before dismounting. Immediately, he reached towards Princess Sophia.

She kept sitting in the saddle.

"Hrmm..."

[GiglameshDespair]

"I'll handle her. Your pardon for this, miss."
Priscilla reached up and carefully lifted her off the horse.
"Can one of you stable the horses? The rest of us can arrange some rooms."

[SirAston]

"Looks as fine as any other place where you can snag a bed."

Rowan looks around before getting his feet on the ground.

"Let's see if the area seems to be relatively safe around here... If so, then there's some personal business I need to attend to for ten minutes or so."

Gets down too.

"I'm going to look around and find out what happened here, if that's alright?"
