Priscilla surveyed the battlefield silently.
"..."
She sipped from her vulnerary, and struck a match to relight her pipe.

"Ahhh..."
She placed a hand on the Princess' shoulder, and turned her to face the knightess.
"Your Highness. Sophia, look at me. This was necessary, and you've done very well. But we aren't out of the woods yet, alright? You need to stay focused for a little bit longer."

The Princess looked at Priscilla, and took a deep breath.

"_{Ah... yes... oh, Els, grant me strength.}" The Princess took another breath.

"Right... you're right, Priscilla. I-I'm sorry. Right. I will... I will help Rowan... r-right away." Unable to pry her eyes from the bodies around her, the Princess took few long seconds before she moved between them and her staff finally cast its healing light upon Rowan's shallowly breathing body.

...For a moment, Johannes is almost silent

Then, he spoke up.

"Yes... We need to keep going." He sighed. "That was a mess, but I've seen worse... And honestly, we can't let that keep us from completing our journey. Baby steps... Take things one step at a time."

"I've got some bandages if anyone needs them."

"Wakey Wakey Rowan, battle's over. Everyone's safe."

"I... I just didn't expect this.. this much c-carnage... that is all... I just... need a moment..." The Princess turned toward the river, staring into its rushing waters as a distraction.

"...Alright. Take all the time you need. Can't say I was all too happy the first time, either."

It really is awful, seeing her like this... Johannes thought. I just hope she feels better soon... Is there anything I could have done better? Maybe if I planned better and directed the others more, there wouldn't be as much carnage... Although he tried his best to hide it, there was an audible sigh.

Priscilla clappede Johannes on the shoulder and lightly pushed him towards the Princess.
"Look after her for a moment. I intend to see if there's any sign who exactly these brigands are. At least there were no enemy survivors; if they were more than mere bandits, their master won't know the outcome for a while."

Suprisingly, the mage leader had nothing on her; not even a letter of contract or any messages. Even more strangely, she had no gold or jewelry or other wealth on her. Only some foodstuffs and personal items.

"...Alright." Johannes smiled. "I'll do my best." Johannes looked over at Sophia. "I would like to speak with her privately, however, so I'm probably not going to do so until you leave. Will the others be coming with you?"

After getting first aid and silently cleaning his face, his armor and his steed with the river's water, Rowan returns to the group.

"Well... That went well, given the difference in numbers."

He then glares in Priscilla's direction.

"You did well and I owe you one, but maybe this all could have been avoided if you've kept your mouth shut about the Princess traveling with us. We're traversing the land with light baggage for a reason."

"Her Highness shouldn't have witnessed the gruesomeness that is a battlefield."

Priscilla frowned softly as she rummaged through the pockets of the corpse.
"No money or identification, no personal effects of note." she muttered quietly to herself. "Either these were very poor bandits, or... "
Priscilla returned Rowan's gaze coolly.
"Her Highness is royalty: she'll see blood sooner or later. Besides, you're assigning blame to the wrong place."

"No identification of any kind, no money on them. An experienced mage for a leader. These were assassins. Either the old priestess is working for the foe and somehow predicted where we're going in time to arrange an entire ambush... Or it was that old man who directed us this way. Decide yourself. "

"I believe we may have more luck in determining the Truth by checking the Old Watchtower. We may be able to see just how long they've been here for."




"They may have left clues there as well. Rowen, you and I are light enough to check. You mind keeping watch over the others and Palewing, Priscilla?"

"Light enough...? I may be a bit on the slim side, but there are some serious muscles under this armor. But I agree, can't hurt to check out their now-former operation site."

With that said, Venza and Rowan separate themselves from the group to carefully examine the watchtower.
