How to become a bandit lord in three steps.

Do you want a steady supply of mediocre to useless goods deposited at irregular and widely-spaced intervals? Then try this neat little trick I've discovered.

1. Make an adventurer and reveal one or more bandit camps on the world map, and retire them.
2. Start or unretire a fortress. Make sure your army is well-trained and well-equipped.
3. Go to the bandit camp and demand tribute. If it goes well you will regularly have people show up to your fort and deposit small amounts of goods, ranging from bags of sand to individual strips of cloth (in my experience).

Despite the quality of the stuff they have to offer, the big benefit is that you won't be invaded for bullying them into submission because they're not affiliated with any civs, so it might be fun to try a playthrough based around becoming king of the bandits and having every camp in the world pay you tribute or something along those lines.

Does that makes the subjugated bandits part of your civ? Or friendly ? Can you make friends with bandits in Fortress mode? What happens if you visit them afterward in adventurer mode ?

I have one peculiar bandit chieftain in my game I'm very much interested in having a long friendship with, and I kind of don't want to risk killing her in the process

1. No more than any conquered civ site I think.
2. I do not know if you can directly ally with bandits, just that you can bully them into giving you free stuff.
3. I have never tried this so I dunno. Might be worth experimenting with.

I loved that intro ;)

On a sidenote, what would happen if you conquered those camps instead? can you even do that?

Do these bandits ever give seeds or raw plants? It's probably low chance even if they do, but please report if you see them doing this.

As a side note, when I see bandits in adventurer, it's hard not to try to wipe them out for the most awesome ranged weapon, that is coins.

you can but it doesn't do much that I can see. I've had better luck just demanding tribute.

I'd say its possible but I haven't seen it yet.
