Because newly created sock-elves will grow with age, and can be harvested later for more socks than you started with.

These socks can then be traded to elves because the socks are grown socks.

The Myths and Magic arc has to involve magical buckets.  Dwarves will jump on these buckets to fly away, like the iconic magic broomstick, and invaders will use them to phase through locked doors!

Thieves will place buckets on the heads of dwarves who may otherwise witness their crimes, blinding them. The dwarves with buckets on their heads will not move or attempt to perform any action including removing the bucket for roughly a day.
