Once an artifact is made, dwarves all over the world will start making cheap replicas which are hard to distinguish from the originals. Museums will be filled with fake copies.

i actually really like that idea. the quality can span the range of qualities, at most, it's a perfect masterwork replica except for one single component. also some dwarves become obsessed with crafting replicas, and you can't melt/sell/destroy the fakes even if they're low quality without them tantrumming.

Dwarves with CCD will go to other forts and bite fort members, thus transmitting the CCD to them.
