NB: A that would need to be a real mouse, e.g. mus musculus domesticus

Can I not use the local field mice? My cats have been helpful enough to provide some occasionally

I personally find deer mice to be more responsive.

Oh, of course any mus will do, and even apedemus or peromyscus[1] with a minimum of fuss, but some of the other murinae can be a bit difficult to handle, and only an expert in configuration should really attempt anything further out into the muridae.

I mean, I don't want to suggest you have to conform to some difficult to conform hyper-specific restriction... That would be silly!

[1] Though you definitely can't use tragulus kanchil without a conversion dongle.

As a kid, when I heard my dad had bought a mouse for the computer I literally thought we got a real mouse. Oh, the disappointment when it was just a piece of plastic connected to the computer.  :'(

I had a hamster as a kid, but I'm pretty sure hamsters are only Mac-compatible.

What about a rat, I mean it's just like a mouse but bigger so I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Require DF to be played by rats only.

FPS in Gravearmor (925+ dwarves) is 2-5 (v0.47.05 lives on).

Well at least when time ends I'll die knowing that I did my part to try to save the world by being a rat that played Dwarf Fortress.

(...but you won't die. You'll just no longer continue to live. :P)

In a bid to make an apparent sustainable boost in performance, Toady directly links FPS to real-world time. But not in the way yooouuuu thhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnkkkkkkkkkkkkk..............

Buy dozens of supercomputers and run DF as a server on them. Players can connect to them, run df instances off them. Like the old df "multi-player" system we had back in, what, 2014? That was awesome. Only your internet latency matters.

I would totally accidentally delete the embark party's supplies and instantly embark again. What a rough playthrough THAT was. If someone renewed that utility we could have loads of fun with an adventurer party in real time

This would be a good suggestion if not for the expense of NASA-grade servers

That's why we should go to NASA and steal their servers!

Tarn must join NASA and gain access to their servers.
