Optimal location building?
« on: October 26, 2018, 07:51:39 pm »

In the past I've just done super large rooms for my taverns to hold an incredibly large amount of dwarves + furniture, but lately I've read that smaller ones with minimal furniture might be better for social need fulfilling. What kind of size and how much furniture should I be making taverns then, and are libraries & temples also affected by this? Also, are temples to an unspecified deity still fine, or do dwarves want ones for their specific ones?

Some dwarves supposedly need specific one, and if you have a problem with them you may build it, but from my experience, adding another universal temple is enough for most of them. They don't have to be very big, but it seems it's better to have them in another location, like another level or city quarter

Apparently, dwarves do not like to crawl, which means they do avoid too crowded temples, and do not like to path through crowded corridors leading to such temples. When I build another relatively small temple (universal, not dedicated), the total number of dwarves praying at the moment rises, and all of the worshippers are spread more or less evenly amongst the temples.

Also, my most worship-deprived dwarves actually worship the deities which have dedicated temples, almost empty. The reason they don't pray is probably they are too busy otherwise.

In my tests, dwarves will always stick to the lowermost location in their tile before opting to path a new one. Optimizes fps, but means they can get stuck in a location. Some have previously supported making location zones as no-meeting areas to ensure they're not the default idle destinations, along with placing dining and drinking outside of them so that they get to choose.

Using the zone erasure tool (i-x), I've done 25-30% floorplan general temple covered by 100% floorplan general tavern covered by 100% floorplan general temple to ensure dances have a chance to place them from tavern to temple and vice-versa. It seemed to work somewhat in my tree growing test, though worth noting the resting area also didn't include any furniture.

Much like no-furniture taverns for greater socialization (which I have not done a comparative test with a sealed fortress on), it's not very beautiful.

Wish thousand-tile grand palaces, temples, shrines and libraries would be better, as my intuition of bigger being better says they should be.
