"I have a question, Minerva. Won't there just be twice as many guards if I sneak in during the shift change? It's not like the on-duty guards are going to leave their posts before someone is replacing them in that spot. Unless the CO of the base is really lax."

Minerva thought for a second. "Perhaps you're right, Harbinger," she finally said. "Perhaps you should sneak in before the guard is changed again. If the enemy is really searching for artifacts and the like in this location, I'd doubt the Dragon would tolerate her underlings being lax. What say you?"

Apollo simply rolled his eyes. "Can't we get this over with? At this rate, we'll miss dinner."

"Quiet you."

Ask Hally to pick off the guards on some sections of the walls, preferably off to the side of where we are right now. I’ll then blink up and over where we are after the guards move away to respond to the attack, assuming they go to the location where guards are being sniped as I suspect. If they don’t, and they come toward us, do a fighting retreat in a direction that is not toward our base, using my mine layer and crossbow (in sheaf mode) to set down a smokescreen (with knockout gas mixed in) and to shoot any enemies that make it to us through the screen.

"Sounds good to me. Although I do find myself wondering about any defenses they have inside. It might be easier it may be easier to hit them with something big to damage any defenses, but then they'll probably be on alert. Ah, the hell with it. I'll figure out what's inside when I get there, I suppose. Keep your eyes open for a bright flash of light. Green is the signal that I started the distraction, any other color means I've been discovered, at which point I'll try to kill as many as I can before they take me down. Maybe I'll even buy enough time for y'all to save me." Jamison responds to Minerva before glancing towards Apollo, as though appraising him, then looking back at Minerva. "I could probably sneak the whiny homunculus in with me if you could spare the firepower, since that would give them a chance to do something to help us get back sooner. Although I can understand not wanting to be without your personal guardian this close to the enemy." Jamison adds as an afterthought. He shares his plan with the others while waiting until maybe an hour or so before the guards change shifts.

Jamison's Plan to Sneak Through a Giant, Flat Area:
He will use his electromagnetism manipulation to bend incoming light around him so that it doesn't reflect off of him while bending the reflected light from behind/around him around him so that he doesn't block it. The end result should allow him to remain invisible while still projecting the area behind him to onlookers according to the angle they view him at. He'll use this effect for Apollo too if the homunculus tags along.

For actually crossing the area, he will magnetize the sand around him and use magnetic forces to create an upward vortex, simulating a dust devil that should be thick enough to obscure him. Since his zone moves with him, it will continue to magnetize and pick up new sand. Hopefully the heat from the sand rotating around him will also serve to hide him from heat sensors. Any vision issues due to sand will be resolved by refracting the light from the top opening of the vortex down to his eyes so he can see, even if his viewpoint is a good fifteen or so meters above him. In addition, he will magnetically raise himself (and anyone traveling with him) a few inches off the ground so the aren't making any tremors, just in case the base has sensors for that. They will move via magnetic forces pulling them along.

Once he gets close to the wall, and hopefully before getting too close and triggering the defenses, he will raise himself (and Apollo if necessary) up higher than the wall and over it while the dust devil dissipates. He will dispatch any guards at his access point with precise, non-visible lasers. If he is near the defenses the rest of the group will try to breach, he will use lasers to burn away as many of the formations as he safely can, or at least maybe melt the hinges on the gate or something, without compromising his stealth before continuing on. In addition, he'll do whatever damage he can to the mechs too. Burning through any joints or fluid lines, magnetically locking/sticking the missiles or other ordinance to the walls of their silos/chambers, magnetically locking the joints of the mech and pivots of any mounted weapons, the sorts of small things that wouldn't be expected in these mechs that seem to be well-maintained. His goal is to make his way further into the camp, preferably to a mess hall or something populated by military personnel  who would be likely distracted and unaware. That way, he can draw away everyone on the section of the wall to be breached and his team will only have to worry about static defenses. Once he gets in position, he will open with a bright flash of green light to disorient his opponents followed by a lightning barrage to strike all opponents in his zone, then a laser barrage (coated with visible indigo light) covering 360 degrees to finish off any that the lightning didnt kill and hopefully wipe out any other infantry nearby. If necessary, prioritize alchamech pilots and officers.

If at any point he is discovered, Jamison will release a burst of white light (maybe with some streaks of brown light) to hopefully blind/disorient his discoverers and alert the rest of the team that the shit has hit the fan. From that point, he'll jump right into the electromagnetic murder barrage part of his plan.

Hopefully that'll be enough of a distraction to let the others do their stuff.

Minerva pursed her lips. "While Apollo is strong enough to easily crush any normal humans, he is more adept at ranged combat with an anti-tank rifle, which would be less useful within the confines of that base compared to, say a shotgun or submachine gun."

Thinking for a second, Minerva's eye fell on Fallen Savior. "Of course, if you want a more suited candidate then perhaps Fallen Savior can aid you instead, if he chooses to."

Apollo looked disappointed. "Aw, couldn't I just use the rifle as a club instead?"

"Using an expensive piece of anti-tank weapon as a makeshift melee weapon and risk bending the barrel, thus rendering it useless against a vengeful alchamech?" Minerva said, giving a sarcastic chuckle before returning to her usual serious expression.. "I don't think so."

darn. well, if time still allows, attempt to breach their perimeter after roughly an hour. try to keep the breach quiet if possible, but if they spot me then i’ll just have to so what I do best: cause chaos. the backup plan is to create a breach in their perimeter by destroying any emplacements or suseptible fortifications in order to draw reinforcements to this location, then retreating before they can bring down a full response on my head. hopefully by doing that, it will draw away soldiers from other bases in order to investigate or re-fortify.

Time still allows for an hour, naturally. Alicea informs you after the allotted time runs out.

You move forward as stealthy as possible, getting closer and closer to the enemy lines. It goes better than expected, for a time...as you get within seven hundred meters, the din of gunfire erupts from the trench. Machine guns send countless lead projectiles into the air, as if they where summoning their own sandstorm to avoid being overshadowed. Fortunately, you seem to be far enough away that the initial burst fails to bring your plan to an early end.

Alicea's analysis says that they are likely anti-infantry caliber rounds, and they seem to be pouring forth suppressing fire rather than attempting to bring you down with this alone. Acting without taking hits will be difficult, they seem to be alternating between the trench's guns allowing for a constant barrage of fire without pause. It is likely that they plan to hit your position with explosives after pinning you down with gunfire. At this distance it would be difficult for the riflemen to get enough hits on you to bring you down, but they will add their firepower to the suppression efforts. Anti-mech rifles would complicate things.

Your surroundings remain sand as far as the eye can see, baring the enemy position. There is no obvious cover for you.

Ask Hally to pick off the guards on some sections of the walls, preferably off to the side of where we are right now. I’ll then blink up and over where we are after the guards move away to respond to the attack, assuming they go to the location where guards are being sniped as I suspect. With that she moves towards a section of the wall to the left of where we are now, then she starts picking off the guards there (basically just following Glass's plan)

Hally gets into position far away on the far side. She sets up, telescopic sights, infra-red filter. Left guard tower in her crosshairs, with a group of red blobs hiding behind the wall. She pulls the trigger. Center red blob becomes a red smear. The guard tower's are not quite enough to withstand such a weapon even at this distance, though as a testament to their fortitude the only physical damage was a comparatively small entry hole.

Their response is immediate, a siren blares as soon as the impact is registered. Apparently having trained for this, the guards quickly abandoned what should have been an advantageous position in the towers, hiding from the sniper's sights behind the thick walls of their 'fortress'. Hally manages to get one more shot in, finishing a man as he rushed down the stairway.

A group of "eyestalks" pokes over the wall in the direction of the gunfire. Five of them, to be exact. They begin scanning the area for signs of the enemy sniper.

On the other side, without the vigilant eyes of the Guardsman Delta is easily able to approach and scale the wall. He teleports over at an angle, landing with a hard "THUD" that is hopefully obscured by the blaring alarms and mechanical clicking of the alchamech across the base, should anyone be nearby by chance. Across the wall, the place looks more like a town than a 'camp'. Dozens of buildings made out of the same sandstone material as the walls, with sandbags and runes enchanting their defenses. They all have a low profile, and seem to be distinguishable only by their shape. No obvious windows, doors of the same material with old-style handle "knobs". He lands behind one such building, obscuring his view from the rest of the camp. Lucky this works both ways.

I didn’t really think much, so I was fine letting the officer school graduate do the planning.

Jamison's Plan to Sneak Through a Giant, Flat Area
Hopefully that'll be enough of a distraction to let the others do their stuff.

The infiltration group of Jamison and Kirstaan (the Laser boys) begins floating forward obscured by their makeshift sandstorm. He is able to move them forward at a reasonable speed, a believably quick one for such a weather phenomena. They approach without suspicion, past the seven hundred meter mark, six hundred, five hundred. At four hundred one of the snipers next to a gun-port licks his finger and holds it out to the open air.

He was checking the wind. He found none. It took only an instant for him to realize the implications.

He shouts something in a foreign language, something those of you with combat experience recognize as "FIRE FIRE FIRE!". It seems like the enemy is wasting no time following this plan, all eight "eyes" of the "spider" immediately point to the sandstorm, as do the gun-ports within the wall.

I fire off an explosive caster shell as a distraction for the enemy eyestalks. Then I go flying up, orbit around the enemy camp, and keep sniping.

"Hrm, these guys are no slouches," Minerva thought. "Looks like this battle is going to be a lot tougher than we thought. Nothing we can't handle though."

Picking up her radio, Minerva tuned into her squads' frequency, "Looks like we've been found. However, their guns are pointing toward our comrades in the sandstorm, meaning that they're not aiming at us instead. Now, here's what we going to do:"

Tactical Team Owl will lay down suppressive fire on the defenders with their heavy machine guns.
Assault Team Peregrine will use the covering fire to advance on the enemy until they get within range to use their grenade launchers.
Recon Team Raven will begin picking off the snipers and artillery crews.
Apollo will use his anti-tank rifle to blind and attempt to disable the spider alchamech.

Let’s check out the layout of the camp, and see if I can identify any structures of particular note. See if there’s any signs that there’s underground construction on a large scale.

Try - very carefully - to sneak into a command building and find personnel papers. If there’s enemies nearby that haven’t spotted me, try to blink or use my “invisibility cloak” to get past them, or use a knockout gas mine to subdue them if avoidance won’t work; if I’m seen by one person, I’m willing to use my swords or my crossbow, but I’ll have to hide the body. If there’s an alarm, multiple people see me at once, or other such things that mean “They know I’m here now”, get out ASAP.

I fire off an explosive caster shell as a distraction for the enemy eyestalks. Then I go flying up, orbit around the enemy camp, and keep sniping.

One eye stalk vanished in an explosion, never to be seen again. Its comrades take the hint, ducking down behind the safety of the wall.

You leap up into the air, giving you a good view of the town-like base below. The eye stalk's owner, a silvery-colored mech taking up roughly a quarter of the base. It has a roughly crab-like design, with a disk for a center covered in alternating missile ports and eye-stocks. They seem to be retractable, the eye-stalks are now hugging the surface like normal eyes.

This also gives you a good view of what comes out of those missile ports. As one may expect, the answer is missiles. Lots of missiles. Their size is comparatively small, perhaps forty centimeters wide and a hundred long. About the size of a standard infantry-held rocket launcher projectile. About twenty are fired in a salvo, leaving a trail of white smoke as they head in your direction. Your current direction, to be exact. They are reasonably well dispersed, three to four meters apart, making a powerful cloud of quick-moving projectiles.

((You don't respond to a cough with a cough! Unless you are both sick I guess.))

Your guns respond the instant the enemy's do. Soon the front of the enemy formation is covered in sparks. As expected, the enemy defenses are significant. The heavy machine guns cause little more than scratches, dents, and the before mentioned sparks at this distance. You could likely cause more damaged with a more focused fire, had that been your goal. Hidden behind the wall, it is hard to observe the primary effects of your suppressive fire on the enemy.

((Err wait. Peregrine had the launchers and the heavy machine guns. Owl had submachine guns and AT rifles. Raven has sniper rifles, at least. Are you trading equipment between the groups?
I also need the guys who are right in front of the guns to do things :V))

There is certainly an alarm, and a set of missiles flying into the air. There is a fair chance that these are not quite "you have been spotted" signs, given that you did just have your comrade intentionally distract the base by shooting several of their guards with a really big gun. For what it is worth this is still working. Not wanting to get their heads or hearts removed, the enemy soldiers are currently hugging either the perimeter wall or the buildings for dear life. Most seem to be content with letting the alchamech handle the enemy, with several wielding with long-range rifles hiding behind the sandbags on top of the buildings instead.

It is difficult to tell the buildings apart. They all seem to have the same design, with no convenient stack of paperwork or antenna giving away the position of the most important feature. The only possible signs of an underground structure would be the buildings themselves, clearly made out of sand. Given that any major digging would likely result in a pile of sand, it is possible they simply transmuted the leftovers into the current structures.

It is fairly simple to teleport between the enemy's blindspots, now that the towers are out of commission. It takes some time, but you should be able to travel to any of the rear buildings without trouble. The further toward the distraction you go, the more trouble you will have being spotted. How do you want to go about finding a command room?
