Design Phase, Early Spring 1915
There are new aces, Maldwyn Griffin, in Gwerinwyr Adran. Shuhrat Kessikbayev in Castell Adran. And Gruffudd Taaffe in Ysbďwr Adran.

Gwyliwr Adran of C15 Tŵr Awyr's over the docks of South King Cadigan's Land are now at Rookie experience level.

The General in charge of the advance down the Bont Gwyn-Nachtburg Road requests more Mod B Saethydd's specifically sent to take more pictures for a better strategic picture. They also request more of the new Nodwydd's to deal with the enemy Adderbolts. Meanwhile the general commanding the forces at the Cwymp Cyflym-Hochrotes Schloss Road requests more than just balloons, or at least more of them, possibly the ones at the eastern front seeing how the navy isn't using them.

Meanwhile, The General in charge of the advance on Sprungburg requests more bombers and maybe some Mod B's to make their advance faster, while General Dremidydd Rosser is disappointed with the result, but confident the city will still fall soon, and requests more support.

We proposed to the army that we would give them the new and old versions of the Cadwynog ŷd. When we warned them that we want the parachutes, they laughed...then they realized we were serious. They simply answered our question with their own, why would the army in charge of forces on the ground ever need or have a device that stops someone from falling to their death? What would they even use it for? Jumping off Y Diddiwedd Peak and getting down the mountains faster?

High command has increased your budget by 2 PP, as the country devotes more factories to war.

Our Nodwydds performed reasonably well I'd say. Just a shame they had such a high target environment to deal with.

After spending the 9pp of maintenance, we'll have 13pp left. That's enough to buy two new squadrons of Nodwydd/Saethydd Mod B planes. I'd thus be inclined to spend no PP this design phase, and either start a new project or save most of our dice for revisions and a double-down project next turn.

We should be able to revise a basic parachute, I'd also like to revise a float-plane version of the Saethydd mod B for the Navy and maybe a warm flight uniform with arrows of slightly more manageable size. Any other thoughts?

I would like to put some effort into a more powerful engine, with either more banks of cylinders or more cylinders per bank. More cylinders per bank is probably easier, but getting the issue of cooling more banks is probably a better result.

Im also wondering if we shouldent both start work on a new heavy bomber, even if slowly, and Im rather sure we need to start work on better bombs.

Crazy idea, who's up for building a Heavy Bomber?

The linked bomber carried 9 MGs for defence and could carry 1,000lb of bombs. That's 100 of our Deg-punt bombs!

Ill get out the design again.

Presenting the Ilya Muromets Mk2 Clogfeini. All changes should be for the better. Any further suggestions? Retractable landing gear, for example?
Quote from: LDA ABC15 "Clogfeini"
Labordai Dylunio Awyrennau's "Clogfeini" bomber is a radical departure from local aircraft design, being a twin-tailed forward-staggered, two-bay, wire braced constant chord, tapered outer dihedral biplane (with solid wings noless, with small fueltanks built within) powered by four(two per wing) wing-mounted engine pods for a total of eight 18-cylinder double-bank rotary engines(REW's newest offering)  in tractor-pusher "gyferbyn â chleddyf" configuration with an intended crew of atleast 6(10 preferred) and equipped with mounting points for no less than 6 sets of flexible gun mounts(nose, tail, dorsal, ventral-ish and two casemated, one on each side, of which the nose, tail, and ventral mounts contain the the recently built Cadwynog ŷd AGAA CD15 Mark 1. The nose and dorsal mounts are ring mounts, the others are holes with mounting hardware) intended to carry up to 100 Deg punt Tri modfedd Bombs(able to be "aimed" via modified plotting tables and a version of the Drych sight equipped with offset mechanisms for airspeed) or 2000lb of cargo(over, of course, shorter distances) in a central bay and be equipped with both a GW78 Radio and a Llygad Hir Camera. Apparently the whole thing is based off of a Russian designed commercial airliner that flew even prior to the start of the great war, suitably updated(according to the design notes) with the best aircraft design techniques including improved geodetic framing(including strategically placed sections made of duralumin framing as opposed to simply wood), improvements on our movable control surfaces, and efforts made to reduce drag and increase strength with the exterior being formed of corrugated plywood sheathing.

And, in other designs...
Quote from: LDA 100lb Bomb Series "Dau Hestawr"
This bomb series, designed to be built within the area of two standard Hestawr placed end-to-end, are a set of various 18.5" diamiter and 32" long bombs with an improved tail section(to aid accuricy), with the standard HE bombs weighing in at 100lb total.
Part of this design is focused on variants of the standard bomb. Chief amongst these are the "Ysmygwr", containing a below-weight charge of white phosphorus inorder to provide the means of providing smoke cover without the generals on the ground having to "waste" barrage time on it.
Other variants are the "Wy"(an empty casing with a parachute packed within the tail section) and the "Gloddiwr"(an armor penertrating bomb based off of our navie's shells that looses much of its high-explosive charge to gain an armored nosecap to allow it to penertrate fortifications prior to detonation)

THIS WILL NEED TO BE A DESIGN!
Quote from:  Codi Sheision Gollwng Clwb's "Parasiwt" C15
The Codi Sheision "Dropping Club", inspired by some of our early experiments early in 1915, have spent some time and effort on the creation of a parachute for our forces. Or rather, a "parasiwt". In any event, they have come to us for funding and material aid.
Constructed of silk and packed into a pair of canvis packs(based loosly off of Solomon Lee Vander Meter Jr.'s still pending patent for a backpack-style container), the proposed CSGC Parasiwt has a rather different shape than those we proposed nearly a year ago, being roughly box-shaped(aka, cruciform) and weighing some 60 pounds when taking into account the harness and the two chute assemblies. Some features of the design include a pilot chute, activated by ripcord, to draw the main body out of its pack, and the aformentioned "reserve" chute(incase of the inital's failure, and with an added feature that the release of the second chute ditches the first).

Time: 6 | Progress: 5 | Expense: 1

Early work on the Parasiwt has show two things. One, we are very close to what we are working to, and two, by the prince this was more expensive than we thought. The good news is we clearly have the right idea here and know what we are doing and how to acheive it. The bad news is quite simply the results of our old test have plenty of people unwilling to try the pack on themselves, and cattle won't exactly pull the string themselves. This forced us to make something to pull the string properly without impacting the design, and what we made was a bit costly...that and the price of farm animals isn't cheep... Still, we are almost done already, so there is that...

Effectiveness: 6 | Cost: 6 | Bugs: 6

As it turns out, we have basically made the best damn parachute we possibly could. It works exactly as advertised at half the weight, and the spare chute means that even if the first one is destroyed, our pilot will still have a damn good chance of getting down to the ground safely provided nothing happens to the spare chute. Additionally, we have managed to cut a damn good deal on silk that should last well until the end of the war and can buy these things in bulk once they are done, and can give enough of them to save a squadron already. We also did some tests and found it is light enough to not impact our aircraft's performance in that much of a meaningful way. It honestly is surprising how well they came out...Hopefully, they won't need to be as available as they are...Also, it does in fact have a cruciform shape, making them stand out a bit compared to our southern foe.

Someone also equated these things as our version of the soldiers helmet, or the sailors life jacket. And undoubtedly both will probably be jealous.

Allright, thats amazing. For refrence, this was mostly (very roughly) based off of WW2 and modern parachutes. Like, seriously.

Anyways. Revisions. We want any or should we just save it for all?

Here's a few ideas, just to spark some discussion:

Quote from: Psygotwyr ACG-AMD AC15
The "Fisherman" is simply a Saethydd ACG-AMD AC15 Mod B, with a pair of fixed pontoons fitted to the undercarriage instead of the landing gear. A reduction in performance is expected, but thanks to the Mod B's 180hp engine it should be able to cope adequately.

Quote from: Deugain punt Wyth modfedd Bomb
A simple upscale of the Deg punt, this bomb is forty pounds and five inches, rather than ten pounds three inches. At four times the size, there should be plenty of boom.

Quote from: Seren Saethu Flares
These "Shooting Stars" are simply a mixture of chemical compounds that burn in bright colours and leave coloured smoke trails when ignited, attached to a small propellant and with their own customised flare gun. Requested colours include Red, White, Blue, Green, Purple and Yellow.

I don't expect to do more than one of these this turn, but it gives us the option of either some meaningful naval support, bigger explosions, or flare based comms. Useful for signalling without a radio to other planes/groundforces.

I would prefer to have our bombs on the basis of multiples of 50(excepting our current example) inorder to make some things easier.

Quote from: Hanner punt Wyth modfedd Bomb
A simple upscale of the Deg punt, this bomb is fifty pounds and five inches, rather than ten pounds three inches. At five times the size, there should be plenty of boom.

Have another revision then.  I get the appeal of sums of fifty. It makes maths easier.
