Pren Gwyn Design Phase, Late Summer 1915

The Aircraft, Design of 1915 "Saethydd" proposed by Awyrennau Gwynt Cryf-Atebion Mecanyddol Deinamig is, to dumb it down to its simplest, a two-seat pusher-configuration biplane intended to be armed with two machineguns. Or, to go by the actual design log, "a pusher-configuration biplane(possessing a flat upper high-set and a lower dihedral(which, where it meets the fuselage is thickened to contain a fueltank) wingset in a single bay while wire braced and possessing a forward staggar) crewed by a pilot and a gunner/observer, poweredby a 10 cylinder radial variant of the existing AGC 5 cylinder rotary engine armed with a pilot-operated, gunner served hull-mounted machinegun(to be requisitioned) and a second 'Ffoniwch' mounted gunner operated and served machinegun, possessing an internal bay intended for eventual loading of a camera system or a radio massing no more than 20lb(which would be positioned to be operable by either pilot or gunner) and of a structure consisting of geodetic wooden stringers covered in doped linen.

Time: 3 | Progress: 4 | Expense: 5

The engineers are quite happy with the fact they are now going to work on a aircraft and are actually being kept busy. Needless to say, they have a bit of a celebration before sitting down and getting to work on the design that will certainty take a bit of time to actually get working. They also have managed to make a few good deals with those nearby to get a good and cheep supply of material for the creation of prototypes.

ACG-AMD AC15 "Saethydd" | 4/15 progress | 2 PP per die | Rushed 0 times | 2 PP invested

Effectiveness: 6 | Cost: 6 | Bugs: 6

The ACG-AMD AC15 "Saethydd" is the first new aircraft since the merger of both companies, and most noticeably it includes the addition of the date of its creation to the name, at least on paper anyway. In terms of how it looks in the flesh, or rather wood and canvas, it is majorly different, having a set up for two people, a pilot and observer, two guns, one for the pilot that is locked in place and the other the observer thats on a ring, and finally, the craft is larger and has a pusher engine twice as large as the older and smaller Saeth, like the Saeth however, it is a biplane.

Despite this however, the Saethydd is as close to a magnum opus we will have for quite some time, powered by a ten-cylinder radial engine with 140 HP called the Rhodri 10-140 D15 that is basically a heavily modified version of the old engine the Saeth had and despite its size is faster then the Saeth both in speed and just as maneuverable and quick to climb. This combined with the greater firepower will surely make it stand out greater then anything else.

Additionally, the engine is actually just as cheap as the Saeth's thanks to some further modifications, and the aircraft has no bugs or anything else unintended in its design other then things that its surprisingly good at. Despite its size, its still fairly cheap and easy to take care of and maintain, and while it was never going to be as cheap as the Saeth, it is certainty not that much more expensive...

Ar gyfer tir ein hynafiaid

ACG-AMD AC15 "Saethydd": A two-seater biplane with a Rhodri 10-140 D15 Radial engine in a pusher configuration. The Saethydd mounts two machineguns, one locked in the front for use by the pilot and one for the observer on a ring mount sitting forward of the pilot. Is reasonably fast and maneuverable for its size and very easy to maintain. Cost 5/1.

C15 Tŵr Awyr (1 die spent)

Progress: 6+2 = 7/6. 4 PP spent
Being more interested in working with the aircraft then the balloon, the engineers quickly finish up the requirements and send out the plans for the C15 before gleeful running off to work on the new aircraft.

Project Complete! You can now deploy as many squadrons of C15 Tŵr Awyr balloons as you can afford.

Army Requisition: Machinegun of less than 50lb(loaded, without mount) and with ammunition capacity in excess of 40 rounds or utilizing a belt
The army once again sends us outdated equipment they have a surplus of while keeping everything good for themselves. Still, its not all bad, the new DG TyD or Ddraig Gefail Tân y Ddraig is a machine gun that is water cooled with a open bolt. It uses a belt and its ammunition of choice is that fires 7.92 ammo and can fire around 600 rounds per minute, it is fairly reliable surprisingly. As for weight, it is exactly 45 pounds when fully loaded without water, but with water it weighs ten pounds more... Still, the gun should work fairly well, hopefully the army sends us better weapons next time we request such things but this certainty will do, its also cheap as the army has a surplus, like with the radio's. It also tends to overheat if you don't have any water in it and fire it for long enough...

DG TyD: A open bolt water cooled machine gun that fires 8.07mm rounds at about 600 per minute. Naturally, without water it has a tendency to overheat. Costs 1 PP

It is now the Revision Phase. You have 1 die remaining to spend on Revisions or Save for the next turn.

This is nice. I'd like to invest in that, we still have two dice left, yeah?
Just to get the discussion going, here's a possible revision of later use.

DG DE
We've reached out to the company that makes the DG TyD, having received licensing rights from the Army. The possibility of making an air cooled version intrigues them, especially the marketing opportunities that could arise from mounting their weapons on the closest thing to actual dragons this world has.

In collaboration with their designers, we've put together a plan for replacing the water jacket with aluminum cooling fins, set inside a cooling shroud. The inflight airflow should be more that enough to cool down to weaponry with these, and a lighter gun means more ability to aim anyhow.

Gwarcheidwad Pwynt Caled:
The development of a simple hardpoint for machine guns especially when our enemies can mount them has been created for us, a curved rail that sits on the top wing of a monoplane or biplane and allows for a machine gun to be mounted such that it fires over the propeller, whilst still being capable of in-flight reloading/unjamming by pulling it down the rail. We've installed this on the Saeth, enabling us to arm it with a DG TyD, turning it into a -very crude- fighter that can utilize a auto-loading weapon during flight not a pistol-caliber secondary.

Why upgrade our machine gun if we can’t even mount it on the simpler Fighters?, you really expect pistol-caliber weapons to defeat auto-loading rifle calibers?, we can worry about it being air-cooled for the next turn.

Because for one thing this should allow it to be mounted to the mounts we specifically designed to be able to mount whatever machinegun we could come up with.
And for another thing, screw foster mounts with a red-hot germanic pilot

AGC-AMD "Saeth" Mod 2A Biplane
A proposial to lengthen the "Saeth" fitting in an observer/gunner in a ringmount with MG, fitting in the new Rhodri 10-140 D15 Radial to power it, and providing space(and leads, antenna,  wind generator...) for a radio, fitting a (stripped down) GW78 if possible.
Quote
AGC-AMD "Saeth" Mod 2B Biplane
An alternative proposal to turn the Saeth into a dedicated light fighter, with a pair of MGs mounted to its upper wings at the spars and the Rhodri 10-140 D15 Radial fitted to increase its power to make up for increased mass.

-edit-
Yaknow what, screwit. Time to get a dedicated light fighter to do the job until we design something new inabout a turn and a half. Switching mah vote from the DGDE ASMG to the Mod 2B. Its time for a lightfighter I guess.

Pren Gwyn Revision Phase, Late Summer 1915:
AGC-AMD "Saeth" Mod 2B Biplane
An alternative proposal to turn the Saeth into a dedicated light fighter, with a pair of MGs mounted to its upper wings at the spars and the Rhodri 10-140 D15 Radial fitted to increase its power to make up for increased mass.
Efficacy: 6

The Mod 2B Biplane is a AGC-AMD with the modified Rhodri engine, which improves its speed a fair bit to be a bit faster then the enemy's current aircraft and which has thankfully been made usable by the aircraft thanks to some work to actually allow it to be used on a normal Saeth and more importantly to be mass produced. Additionally, it is able to be equipped with two DG TyD on the spars of the wings, however due to their placement there is a few issues. First off, if something happens to the gun, the Pilot cant actually do anything to fix it unless they decide to crawl on the wing, additionally, they have limited ammo due to their positioning on the wings and cant be reloaded with a new belt, and furthermore, they are difficult to aim due to their positioning despite the best efforts of the engineers...Still, at least our pilots wont be forced to use pistols now.

Costs 1 PP to modify a AGC-AMD with the engine and guns. New AGC-AMD squadrons with Mod 2B engines and guns can also be produced at 4PP per squadron.

After having done the math, we have 3 PP this turn. Not exactly much.

Upgrading an AGC Saeth into an AGC-AMD Saeth is 2 PP, and as we've just seen, giving an AGC-AMD Saeth the Mod 2B treatment is 1 PP. We can get two results here.

A) Upgrade all AGC Saeths to AGC-AMD Saeths.
B) Updrade one AGC Saeth, and modify one of the AGC-AMD's with the Mod 2B

I lean toward the latter.
