You rise from your throne, and decide to study the hoop up close.  Just standing by it is uncomfortable, although after a moment the pressure subsides, and you advance closer still to study the runes. The basic pattern of them is at least familiar, and silver is a metal with powers related to purity and protection. You knew that already though, and you can’t figure out why this is so resistant to corruption. Damena and Azen both take a long look at it, and neither can find anything of note.

So you decide to use the hearts, letting them soak in the evil around you, before rising up and sliding them through the hoop one by one. The runes are at first unaffected, and the hearts as well, but after a moment they explode in a wave of foul-smelling goo. You are about to scream in frustration at this latest failure, when you realize something has changed – the runes writhe and shift, and they have become something more…comfortable. The silver still gleams brightly, but it is perhaps more vulnerable.

Seeing as the silver thing was the right idea, we should try plating it in gold leaf too.
