I have 9 barons in my fort
« on: September 05, 2018, 01:50:29 pm »

And there is no hint of stopping. Rulers of dwarven settlements are dying left and right. And they seem to die at the same time. One time, I had 4 dwarves become barons in one go. I hate using unfortunate accidents but digging out and furnishing new rooms for a new batch of nobles every couple of seasons is too much work.

Going to war with all goblin civs was probably too much to deal for my civ.

Maybe this can be a sort of special playthrough. I'll continue and eventually my fortress population will be half nobles. It will be a fortress of nobles. A place where dwarven barons tired of the troubles of rulership coming together to party in my holiday resort of a fortress. So they can take their minds off and issue mandates instead to make my life a living hell because managing the mandates and building the rooms of this many nobles is a lost cause. It would be a shame if a bridge suddenly dropped down on them.

In my headcanon, they simply leave the fortress to rule their new lands. There is a teleporter installed under the bridge which just saves them from all the traveling they'd have to suffer.

If I had such a situation, I would create the squads out of them, train, and conquer new sites. They would remain there, in one form or another.

Damn that's a good idea. I'll send the unskilled ones to conquer some shit. The world is filled with goblin sites anyway. The skilled ones can hang in the noble rooms I already built.

9 barons in a fort is what a marksdwarf sqaud calls a 'target rich environment'.

You should absolutely run a noble fort where all residents are nobles.

What's really important is:
if you are the only functioning dwarven fort
if you send a baron of site A to conquer site B
and said baron is now the baron of site A and B
when he dies, will it generate two new barons at your fort?

It sounded cool at first but I'd end up devoting all my time to digging out and furnishing rooms for nobles. I get at least 2 new barons every couple of seasons.

Retiring and unretiring a fort causes all the baron/count/duke nobles to disappear (including the noble in charge of your fort) so that's what I'm eventually going to do, once I get the monarch and sell off all the booze since it's gonna disappear as well anyway.

You would probably reach a sort of event horizon where every single member of the fort has declared the others criminal and everyone kills each other in the span of a week over failed bismuth mandates.

Toy boat mandates. No bismuth mandates, only demands.

You can speed up the criminal stage by trading, though.
