The Astral Kraken pulled through the sky as various members of the team scrutinized the device. Some made notes, others kept it by memory. There seemed to be twelve unique symbols. You could place the last symbol, probably '1', from the symbol that disappeared. You watch for a '1' on one of the other numbers, and record the next 11 symbols, to get 12-2. Soon enough you have a working understanding of about how this thing works.

Kayto steered, following directions to make the number sink as quickly as possible. Within hours, it was approaching zero.

Ahead lay another of these devices, in orbit over a dusty looking desert world. Patchwork of grey was clearly visible against the yellow sands directly below the satellite - likely some sort of ruin.

Hel-Shredder looks down off the deck and smiles. "Are those ruins? Ohhh.... I hope they are unplundered! Just think of how much knowelge and wealth we can obtain for House Lyrandar inside!"

The Hobgoblin turns to the rest of the party. "I say we get the second device on board, and then swoop down to have a look! You guys in?"

“Will I get food from this?” Atil replied in a matter of fact tone, before grabbing 3 of his javelins, and his three axes and prepping to leave.

"Depends on what we find down there." Mr. Shredder replies, "At the very least, we will sell the floating gizmos and you can buy food with your share of the money, and best case situation, there could be something yummy in the ruins!"

Hel-Shredder, of course, seriously doubted that there would be anything even remotely edible to be found in some ruins on a desert planet, but he was not about to tell Atil that.

"I will be with you to heal your wounds." Brother Jonathan smiled and nodded to Mr. Shredder.

Stella frowns at something. "This is or was a highly advanced civilization. We should be wary of whatever caused them to fall into ruin."

[Weirdsound]

"War, economics, plague," Mr. Shredder lists, "there are plenty of things that can ruin a civilization and not pose an immediate threat to explorers who come along later! ...But I suppose a little caution never hurt anybody! I... I'm not the most perception person in the world though, so I'll leave the lookout duty to the rest of you. I'll be more than happy to have my mage hand or invisible servant spells trigger any obvious traps you find though."

Whatever it was, the glowing clouds didn't seem to be here. The Astral Kraken descended over long hours before arriving at a large ruin. Deep pits descended down into darkness, perfectly round and lined with steel. A central complex waited, and a large, round, smooth stone circle had faded and chipped lettering on it. Fields of glass seemed to line the facility, gleaming brightly. A large rounded door was the only entrance to the facility, which itself seemed to have once been made of some bright white material, maybe ivory, now faded and stained yellow with sand and dust. Conditions were clear now, and the planet seemed very hot, and very bright.

"I don't think the air here can be breathed." Kayto d'Lyrandar said. "It doesn't feel like air against the hull. I'll keep us close enough for the Elemental Sheath to cover the entrance."

Atil kept his wits about him, watching the corner of his visions while the others did what they will.

A number of people aboard the Astral Kraken spotted some movement among the strange glass rectangles. A squat mechanical figure on some kind of elongated system of wheels seemed to be moving between them, pausing to clean each of them off. It's motions were repetitive and unnatural.

"It is a window cleaner. Presumably some form of mindless construct similar to mindless undead. This likely rules out war as a cause for this area's ruination."
