Any attempt to hug him would bring out a very irritated and guttural growl, but would not be met with resistance unless it lasted for more than 2 seconds. Atil was a fighter, a warrior, and, like all of his craft, has had to be saved by another. It was only right for him to do so to this warrior of the crafts. His only concern came from this gesture being a waste. That the man was far too weak to stand on his own to legs.

“I have saved no one. He will save himself, in time.” Atil shot harmlessly at Thalia, proving himself more bark than bite, to her.

(A smithy would be a good first step to rebuilding this refugee camp into something worth while.)

She parsed her lips acquiescently and nodded, raising her glass in agreement before emptying it. "As you like, Atil. Barkeep!"

The barkeep came and refilled her mug with a thick porter. The three of you ate together and drank late into the night, before your beggar parted to find a boarding house.

Something, thought the night kept racking Atil’s brain, and, by morning, he tried his best to remember what it was.

Trying to remember Thalia’s husband

[Atil Intelligence 19]

Cyre and Breland had been allies, towards the end of the war. Atil had known a Captain tir'Dain. A brave soldier and clever arcaneer, one of the heroes of the Western Front. The two of them had fought a valiant defense once, holding a hill fort against a much larger enemy force. Captain tir'Dain had conjured up mists to cover a series of guerilla sorties that crippled the attacking force.

That had been some years before the end of the war, and you don't know what happened to him next. Only that he was likely stationed in Cyre at the time. But, who knows. If Detlas Jundar made it back, maybe others would, someday. If anyone could, it'd be Captain tir'Dain.

No one could be sure if it was due to pity, or cruelty, but, early that morning, before leaving, Atil would tell the story of that day. Of the many brave men and women who layed down their lives to defend a hill fort. Of a man, a captain who used his arcane knowledge to spread a mist that made it possible for Atil to take the survivors on a risky guerilla counter attack, leaving the fort but with 10 defenders, the Captain included. How that action, and the strength of that man saved far more lives than were lost, that day, and how they parted ways, at the end of it all, the Brave captain surely still out in the world, likely saving more lives with his knowledge, especially those who were devistated by the war.

Detlas Jundar did his best to learn what he'd missed.

He sat down with a merchant marine over breakfast.

"The Trea'y of Throne'old." He said, in a gruffly official accent. "After what happened with Cyre, the kings of the five nations met to sign an armistice. Y'see, the dominant theory at the time was that we fought so hard, for so long, that we'd torn a hole, like the one above Sharn, but into the Plane of War. They all thought, if we kept fighting, it'd happen again. Wrath of the Gods, and all that. Anyway, the Trea'y ended the civil war by recognizing five independent Galifan nations."

Mechanically eating his food, Detlas asks,"What happened to Cyre?"

"No one really knows for sure. You go there now, it's nought but mist, ruin, and 'orrid monsters. Some people think it was the planar alignment. Others say that Cyre did it to themselves, testing some kind of mass destruction magic." He shook his head. "But I'd best be off. Ship's sailing today. Good luck."

Hours later, Detlas found himself talking to a Warforged. He learned that after the war, they'd all been freed. What few creation forges existed outside Cyre were shuttered, and manufacturing warforged was banned in the Treaty of Thronehold. The others were all freed, and allowed to find work and pursue their lives.

"I imagine that must be something we have in common." The Warforged said in an erudite accent. "Both of us have been forged by war, with little plan for what comes next. I've chosen to apply myself to the study and construction of airships. I worked on the design for the Astral Kraken, and in that sense, I was one of the architects of your rescue, and in that sense, of a new purpose for myself."

"What do you envision for your future, Mr. Jundar?" He asked, metal face unmoving as he tilted his head inquisitively.

Staring off as he often does, Detlas shrugs noncommittally, before answering plainly.
"I'm a mercenary now. I suppose I'll keep doing that. Regardless, thank you for your hand in my rescue, even if unconscious."

"Ah, a common enough answer." He said jovially. "And please, think nothing of it. I only hope my work continues to heal the wounds of the war."

Detlas visited the nearby church to learn more about the Cult of the Dragon Below. They'd been in the papers in the years since the war - a dangerous doomsday cult.

"They found an eldritch device in Droam." A morbidly obese friar of the Silver Flame explained. Detlas had heard the words 'Eldritch Device' before. It was the relic Karrnath had built Fort Zombie around that can allow one Necromancer to control armies of undead.

"Millennia ago, a great evil was sealed beneath Eberron. The Dragon Below. It had worshipers, and one of them built the device to try to free it, but they were never able to activate it. House Canith was, a couple of years ago now. As soon as they figured out what it was doing, they destroyed it, but some damage was already done. Now, it reaches out to twisted souls, and grants them dark powers. We've had to revive the inquisition, which is not something most of the Church is happy with."

"Speaking of, have you thought to your own spiritual needs? You should join us for services. Might help you feel better, being part of something again."

Gazing around the church, Detlas shakes his head, and answers plainly, as he generally does. "No. Good luck, though."
Being apart of something involved in killing for "ideals" and "sides" is not something the veteran wants, after a lifetime of being apart of something like that.
He's had enough of that.

There wasn't much else left to know that Detlas could just ask. He heard some snippets of electoral news, other things that seemed like they mattered little. What remained to be discovered - new musical styles, improving food, new arcane devices, new buildings, new plays and new operas - they were all things to be experienced, not told.

With little else to do, Detlas goes back to the staffhouse, taking his time getting there.

The rest of the time until the next mission, he'll be "relaxing" in his quarters. This is either intense exercise, strolling around the local area, or doing nothing.

Brother Jonathan traveled down to the Lower Central Spire, and checked into Boldrei’s Hearth, planing to stay 10 days their while get some brewing done. Eventually he had 140 galifars worth of "Extra dry Cider." He sold almost all of it and then went to the Middle Central Spire, to commission a holy Symbol of Healing from the church of the Silver flame. He would spend the next week working and staying at the church.

Hel-Shredder nods. "It is a pretty picture, but the story behind it is more than a bit disturbing. I won't soil a night as happy as this by telling the tale. But if that is your choice, we shall have it."

Mr. Shredder inquires as to the price of Arawai's Fate. If it is between 50 and 100gp, he will overpay to avoid disadvantage on the social roll. If he can get it for 50 or less, he will try to buy 'Hlied' as well. If it costs more than 103, he is likely going to have to quietly bug Sorimas for a loan.
