Release The Krakenblade
Special

Drawing on surprisingly large stores of energy produced by the combination of distress and eustress horomones in Octolings, the Krakenblade produces a large blade of pure Ink from its hilt. Equipped with a fully formed Krackenblade, the wielder dashes forwards and swings, expending all their energy to lay waste to their enemies in an instant.

Ink Shield

Drawing on surprisingly large stores of energy produced by the combination of distress and eustress horomones in Octolings, the Ink Shield produces a large shield of pure Ink from its hilt. Equipped with a fully formed Ink Shield, the wielder dashes forwards, leaving a trail of ink and bashes, expending all their energy and causing a large splash to lay waste to their enemies in an instant. It also protects from shots.

Design : Krakenblade (Normal Difficulty)
2+1 = 3: Buggy mess

It turns out that it is hard making Ink form into a solid object that then actually stays a solid object, even when said object is shaped and infused with raw Ink Energy and even when you have a solid hilt to anchor it onto. It's also hard infusing Ink Energy into someling's body to cause a controlled effect. It's even harder for an Octoling to do both at once.

And yet the developers persist, and eventually actually come up with something workable. While 'dashing forwards with super speed' is currently an unsolvable problem, and 'expending all their energy' just lead to fainting Octolings... In the end they were able to get the Ink to form into a sword which could then be slashed at someone. When the Krakenblade scores a direct hit on a target, the combination of Ink Energy and, well, actual Ink should suffice to splat them instantly. You know, assuming in a highly mobile inkarm battle that normal Ling combat consists of these days puts you into a position where you are in melee range of an enemy target and can also afford to spend a moment concentrating to form the Krakenblade.

Still, when that set of circumstances does arise, the Krakenblade is a one hit splat.

Costs 2 Super Sea Snails and is Complex, and so is Very Expensive.

Rework the kraken,
We know its possible, so lets see if we can lower the price and decrease the complexity. we think we can reduce the amount of super sea snails needed by using a foam sword with piping in it as a base for the ink-sword. By using a physical sword as the base, we should be able to reduce the strain on our octolings, potentially enabling us to have them infuse themselves with ink energy to increase their speed for a short burst before slashing.

Power Charge
Krackenblade Upgrade

The dash failed when it exhausted the Ink Energy reserves of our troops "in an instant". This was too aggressive a drain, and would end the production of more Ink Energy early. To solve this, new Krakenblades are to draw energy from the user over several seconds to fully charge their batteries.

The Krackenblade itself is supplied energy first, so an uncharged attack will act like an old Krackenblade: a single use sword quite effective if you can get in close. The difference comes when the Special is held for a few seconds after triggering. The longer the batteries are charged, the further the dash circuit can propel the user as they strike.

I'd rather take something that's good but expensive than something that's meh but cheap.

Faster Pumps
Balloon Mine Upgrade

Rotodynamic Pumps like the ones in modern Ink Tanks are quite effective, better than the ones in Self-Filling Balloon Mines. By replacing the old pumps with new ones, Self-Fillers won't just save effort, they can be tossed forwards to create cover or a threat, and left behind to discourage pursuers.
