Dash'n Slash
This special takes the form of an ink-Katana. When used the octoling holds the blade out in front of them and drags it along the ground, shielding them from damage, while also greatly increasing their speed and leaving a trail of ink. When they arrive (return to normal speed) their blade grows and they slash it in an arc, covering their landing zone in ink. While somewhat middle of the road compared to our current arsenal, Dash'n slash makes up for it with a relatively fast recharge time. Plus the blade is both fresh and deadly, with plenty of potential uses as part of many different sub weapons and specials.

Design : Octo Home Guard (Normal Difficulty)
2+2 = 4: Below Average

If nothing else can be said about the Octoling people, let it be said that they are dutiful. Of course, plenty else can be said about them, but that's the personality trait that matters the most right now. It is their duty to show up and train and prepare for if the worst should happen (no matter how much they pray in private that it will not), and they will do their duty. And, well, they do.

The Octoling Home Guard is not a program that stands out. It will not be remembered in the history books for the heroes it trained, for the elite soldiers that hail from it, or for the shared heritage that those whom went through its programs possessed. For the most part, it didn't have any of those. But despite the lack of fame, despite being generally brushed over by those recording history as it was and is and shall be (at least in the books), the Home Guard is the rock that all other, later, more famous programs would be built on.

For all that it did not turn out brave heroes or hard-bitten commandos, what it did turn out could be considered more important then all of those. For it turned out soldiers. Not great soldiers, not legends in their own time... but soldiers none the less. Weekend warriors, some called them, trained not to the bleeding edge of skill, but still trained to move and shoot and to rely on one another to protect the homes they all hold so dear. Trained to trust in one's self and trust in one squad, and how a team can be greater then the sum of its parts.

Recruitment Drive
Home Guard Upgrade(/Cultural Artifact?)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Putting up posters like these throughout Octoling territory should provide us with more soldiers and, if the "I want you!' Octopus is popular enough, could create merchandizing opportunities.

Functional Nozzles
Bamboozler/Bamboozler Mk 2 Upgrade

Current Bamboozler models have some issues with blobbed shots flattenning mid-air, increasing drag and decreasing range. Blob shots are common among high-volume, high-pressure Ink-Tech weapons when the beginning of a shot is overtaken by a faster moving rear, and can be solved by reducing overpressure for a longer, more streamlined projectile. Proposed solution is to slightly lengthen and taper the current extremely wide nozzle, restricting Ink flow enough to produce a shot of consistent shape suitable for travelling reasonable distances.

Here's my a Splatling revision from earlier that's been edited

S.A.P. - Splatling Attack Platform
Due to the recent observations about the Splatling it is obvious  that it is a mediocre weapon due to it's unstable platform of fire, this tripod will be three adjustable legs, hopefully this will assist us in our efforts to protect the octoling motherland.

Improved bamboozler intake methods
By improving the way that the bamboozler gets ink from the tanks, we can improve its recharge speed.

Revision : Functional Nozzles (Normal Difficulty)
4+4 = 8: Unexpected Boon

In a burst of inspiration, Octoling engineers completely rebuild the nozzles of the Bamboozler line of inkarms. This causes ranges to increase by an astonishing 15%, an improvement 50% greater then what was estimated when the project begin. And then, not satisfied by that, they go back to the Bamboozler Mk.2 and rework some of the inkarm's more glaring flaws, such as having the leaky air chamber replaced with a not leaking air chamber and rebuilding some of the internal valves so that they're no longer a jam risk when the gun is struck with concussive force.

Spoiler: Octoling Armory (click to show/hide)

As expected, as Fall wains and the leaves find themselves exiled from the trees, intermittent and unauthorized violence breaks out between Inkling and Octoling hotheads. Random skirmishes mostly, often just a few friends working themselves up into doing something stupid before they have time to think twice about it. Usually meaningless in the larger scale, besides in how it helps accelerate the increase in tensions. 95% of the time, it's just fools with a Bamboozler and a lack of planning.

Except, of course, for that 5% of the time when it's actual Octoling and Inkling agents testing each other, seeing how secure each side's hold on their territory is, and trying to draw out enemy secrets before they are seen on the battlefield. In order to maintain the element of surpris, only basic Bamboozlers are supposed to be deployed in these small spats. Inevitably, however, some real equipment gets dragged into the splatterzone. While the exact details are unclear due to a general lack of successful capturing of said real equipment by the other side, in those fights when modern equipment gets dragged in it is obvious that both sides have upgraded their Ink Tanks in some way, at the very least holding more ink then the basic module. As well, a few times the Inklings have shown of some sort of rapid fire mode, unleashing two shots in rapid succession, and the Octolings in return have demonstrated a firing range that extends farther then a basic Bamboozler is able to ink.

A few, more vaguer reports mention some sort of spinning gun used when an team of Inklings foolishly attempted to penetrate Octo-Valley and escape with samples of the enemy's works, as well as well as some sort of bursting device dropped on the heads of a few Octolings caught trying to sneak through Moray Towers, but the details on those are excessively unclear. Still, it is obvious the other side hasn't been slacking off, and will be unlikely to be surprised by the planned spring offensive. Still, with your superior preparations, confidence is high. Surely victory won't take more then a year or so, right?
