Tough Stuff
Ability

The first Clothing Ability, Tough Stuff is derived from Sturdy Sea Snails, whose unique interaction with Ink Energy reinforces their shells against predators. A piece of clothing imbued with Tough Stuff offers its wearer similar benefits: a resistance to harm from any direct attack. It won't let you swim in the ocean or walk through enemy ink any better, but if you get hit with an object or a blob of ink it'll have your back. And your front.

I see the inkwell being a large help with the fighting in the canyon next phase, especially with the Splatling and all the tight corridors it can cover.

Design : S.T.E.P Up (Average Difficulty)
4+4 = 8: Unexpected boon

Drawing from the pool of already trained personnel and the new combat veterans trickling back from the front for instructors and ideas, the S.T.E.P. Up program proves to be an astonishing success, even if the limited pool of qualified teachers prevents large scale outputs, though the amount of troops coming through it is still greater then anyone originally expected. The new Octling Elite is ready, steady, strong and proud, and it shows. They're really in the zone when they enter combat. Able to make rapid and effective split second decisions and otherwise building upon the already existent foundational skills and strong sense of teamwork from the Home Guard Program. Meanwhile, the intense physical training of the S.T.E.P. program makes them faster and stronger then any Octoling that came before, able to use heavier weapons with increased ease, or maintain more advanced mobility with lighter weapons and gear. There's even sword drills for the Krakenblades!

Actually, the increased physical conditioning has proven so effective that some, less intense, parts of that program are being extended out to the overall Home Guard, whom take to the new training with... well, not exactly enthusiasm, but they still do it. This increased level of fitness can only do good things for their effectiveness.

Mk. 2 Simplification Project
The Bamboozler Mk. 2 was a good concept that was marred by a few simple things. The misunderstandings of a tired fish(as if leaking slime didn't give me a bad enough reputation), and a lack of time dedicated to the project. This aims to alleviate these issues by giving it just that, time. This project is simple, just like we are intending the Mk. 2 to be when we are finished, we will be going over the design specifications for the Mk. 2 and figuring out what parts of it are unnecessary or over complicated, and working to simplify these components so that the weapon is easier to mass produce. Ideally we'd also be able to trim down on excessive resource cost while doing it, but that is more of a stretch goal than anything else.

Kraken armory
Our current krakenblades are still slightly too expensive to be standard issue. to help solve this issue we have decided to roll out a series of smaller krakenblades, namely, the kraken short blade, which halves the blade size to halve the cost; the krakenknife a weapon small enough to be equipped alongside another kraken weapon, and the kraken spear, effectively a small krakenblade mounted to a stick.

Punt Bombs
Balloon Mine Variant

Dense spherical balloons, Punt Bombs are able to be kicked long distances by an athletic Octoling. Produced en-masse in the field by Automatic Balloon Mine stands, Punt Bombs can be widely distributed to troops in the area or stacked in piles for use later. Maximum range is achieved with a running kick of course, but headers and dropkicks can provide more responsive attacks.

Nyeh... thinking it over more, this honestly feels like it would help solve our big problem, at least in the Outpost, better than the Punt Bombs.
