So, upon the arrival of the first of Granite, 253, everything was going well. Well over 3000 food in plant stocks and 1000 units of booze, my fortress has been doing the best out of everything I've tried to accomplish so far. In the Autumn before, the fort suffered a burden in the form of a giant black bear, trying to raid our food stocks, seriously injuring two of the dwarves involved, but was effortlessly taken down by the guard and their -silver war hammers-. The two dwarves almost dehydrated to death in the hospital because the lakes were all frozen and i had not breached the cavern yet. Right in the nick of time, the dwarves found the cavern and let a huge expanse of the caverns water spill into a level below, building a well. Since then, the fortress has lived prosperously, with spiked wooden balls dominating the economy. However, a horrible plague befell the fortress. Was it the fabled beast rot, brought upon by spoiling entities? No, it was in the form of.. "COULD NOT FIND PATH" SPAM.

OK, all dramatics aside, this is getting annoying. My hunters are just constantly screaming that they cannot find paths. I do not know what is wrong or how to fix it.

In other news, the arrival of the elven caravan has lagged my game to a near halt. Perhaps this would be amended through the force of... slaughtering... I mean, at the end of the day, they are just subdwarves with pointy ears and disgusting eating habits, am I right?

One common cause is unrevealed cavern tiles. The game knows a path exists to cavern wildlife, but your hunters cannot path through unrevealed tiles to reach it. Send a squad (or a spare cat) to explore unrevealed sections of the caverns, or just wall them off completely.

Large birds also cause this when they move adjacent to the ground. The hunters can see a walkable path, so they start the Hunt job, then the bird flies away and the hunter cancels the job.

There is something to be said about, if the stakes are as high, maybe reconsider your certitudes. One has to be aggressively allistic to feel entitled to be able to trust.
