The "bug" might be more in how easy fish is to obtain. Fisherdwarves are rather inefficient food sources, but a legendary one can still catch ~2600 mussels in a season, i.e. nearly 31 a day. For a small murky pool, it's like dragging fishing nets across the bottom of 10mx10m pond. For that matter, "infinite population" is considered at least 10000 in the game internally, which means it jumps from "fish gone in a year" to "infinite fish".

Bit more difficult to mod that than plants' growdur.
