As you realize that he is honest with you, you begin the questioning with the most obvious one.
"What is in the bottle?" "Oh, it is a fine walnut spirit. It is known to taste good, and free your mind." He takes a sip from his glass, and you do realize that he wouldn't poison himself, so you decide to take a sip. A marvelous taste unfolds itself in your mouth and it seems to take your stress off of your mind at least a little bit.
After a short moment of silence you ask, "Who were the guys that were coming after me earlier?"
"Well, it is quite difficult to explain actually. The research Dr. Gabelius was conducting at the lab you visited is considered pariah by this group. They call themselves the Reality Policing Unit. You see, they are a group of people who seek out exceptional people who have exceptional talents and abilities. They try to recruit you, and if you don't comply, they threaten you, and then they attack you. They are like a mafia, and those that are initiated in their ranks fight furiously against groups and individuals who do "dangerous" research. I believe that they want to drive out all chaos, so they do have well intentions, but they want to achieve their goal by purging creativity and free will, and they have many tools to aid them on their quest. I too was hunted by them, but luckily I could get away, and now I have been living in hiding for quite many years. It is fine for me, I like the seclusion, but I'd rather choose seclusion instead of being forced to it."
You nod at this, but you feel that there is a lot more to be said about this topic, but you leave it at that for now.
"Now, what happened to Dr. Gabelius, is he dead?"
Dr. Sirenius Kalderon shakes his head, "I have a strong belief that he is not dead, Ashe, the one that was with you, has reported that he must have gotten away through using his knowledge of Correspondence. We believe that he is hiding in a safehouse somewhere, but since he is on the radar of the RPU he will probably remain silent for a while. We have sent Ashe to find out his location, but that COULD take quite a while."
Again, you nod, and you gaze upon the hatstand and then back at Dr. Kalderon who is still wearing his strange robe.
"What's with the Lord of the Rings costume?"
At this he bursts out in laughter, "Hahaha, good one... Well it is my choice of garment. The patterns painted on the robes aid me to channel energies amongst other things. I chose this red robe today, due to its resistance to heat and kinetic energy. If Ashe hadn't returned and reported what happened, the others and I would have gone there ourselves to take care of the matter. It's a pain that the place is destroyed. Ashe had to, now it looks like it was torn down by a gasleak, and all compromising materials that could lead to any of our group are evaporated to an extent that even the RPU will have problems to restore them."
All of this sounds rather fishy and strange, but you decide to be diplomatic for now and quiet down to enjoy the rest of your walnut spirit.
"Now, for the tests... You don't need to stand up, I am just going to get my tools, and it won't take long I promise.
For a moment that seems endless, Dr. Kalderon is away, off in another room. When he returns, you're surprised to see him with with a big crystal shaped like an octagon, and a pendle. He puts the pendle on the table, and holds the crystal in front of his face, and you can see his distorted face through it. Interestingly enough you can see the blue glow again, and you touch the helmet on the floor, that you had taken off earlier in the conversation. He wanders around you and gazes at you from all angles. He sometimes hmms, and ahas as he is doing so.
He puts the crystal on the table and takes the pendle in his hand. He walks up to you and holds it above your head. Abruptly the pendle starts pendling, and quite powerful too.
After a minute Dr. Kalderon puts the pendle back on the table. He smiles at you.
"Now, I have a question for you. Do you want to be trained to become a mage?"
You look at Dr. Kalderon as if he was crazy, and answer, "What's that supposed to mean? Are you crazy, a mage, this is not a fantasy story, nor is it a suggestion based game on an internet forum..."
"Have you not seen the blue glow through that helmet, and later on through the crystal when you were looking at me?" "Yes, I did, but I do not know what that has to do with anything. This is crazy, what you are suggesting is a child's dream." "What if I could prove to you that there is magic?" "Now how would you do..." you stop in midsentence as you see a ball of fire forming in the left hand of Dr. Kalderon. He snaps his fingers and the firebolt flies to a candle to light it.
"Do that again, but keep it in your hands." He does as you say, and you quickly walk up to him and hold your hand over the flame. It is hot, and very dry, there is no way you know of how Kalderon could not feel the heat, and also his hand seems to be okay with the flame, not sweating, nor blistering. He closes his hand and the flame is gone. He then takes his glass, and freezes it.
You stare at him.
"If I believe you, you can show me how to do that?" He nods.
"It will take some time, but for now I will try to show you something. A trick from an associate of mine, he showed it to me.
Breathe in and out. Slowly. Concentrate on the energy you have observed earlier, try to bring it back before your inner eye."
You breathe in and out, and continue to do so in a slow manner. You also try to picture the energy. After a minute or two the blue glow begins to form before your eyes.
"You see it now, huh?" Dr Kalderon asks. You nod.
"So, Dr. Gabelius assumption about you was right, you are a willworker. I think it would be good for you if you came with me tomorrow. I will bring you back to the others and you COULD choose one of us as your mentor and trainer. Each of the people you saw tonight has a very different approach to the whole magic matter. Why don't you sleep on it and tell me wht you think tomorrow in the morning." You nod and go to sleep thereafter. You dream of a blue figure that watches you as you are working to create a wooden door.
As you wake up you notice a plate with bread and cheese next to you on the nightstand. You eat it and get dressed.
After you have finished eating you go to Dr. Kalderon. The two of you go back to the hall where you came from last night and this time Dr. Kalderon lets the door appear. You enter the door, and find yourself in the house where you met Kalderon first. The others are there, waiting for you.
They all greet you, and the Hawaiian speaks up again: "Now, we are glad you decided to come here. I will brief you now on the different views we have..."
