Squad not willing to fight

I was trying to destroy nearby goblin pits. I send my 20 elite dwarfes to raze it but they confront couple of goblins, kill them and come back. Why don't they go further and completely destroy the site? I had to send them 4-5 times to achieve my goal.

What have you set your raid settings to?
Default is "sneak in and steal stuff". You want "Raze site".

If that's set, how big is the site? Dorfs are probably tired.

I set Raze (openly attack and destroy). The site is a day's travel away and it was 30 population at start.
