There isn't a difference; "Bay12 Champions" is the name of the Expert team. Champions, Blacksmiths, Miners and Nobles are references to DF, while Expert, Advanced, Intermediate and Beginner are the skill levels that we're looking for in matching up the teams. If there are more than six experts wanting to play, we'll make another team under the name "Bay12 Masters", where the only difference to Champions is the team composition.

What is the difference between "Champion" and "Expert" ?
you can count me in (but I'm not sure what I have to do after that, just, log in the game and play as usual ?). I've 10 wins on my account, but mostly 3 or 4 runes (only 1 with 5, and 1 with 10 runes, never been able to win all, yet). So, should I be champion or Expert ?

If you think you can win (once or more)on command(aka during tournament) then expert, if you're not sure, advanced.

You'll have to play version 0.22 on one of the online servers with "# TEAMCAPTAIN [name]" as the first line of your rcfile, but the actual gameplay is unchanged.

that's what i read on the dcss server. But how do you do that ? I don't think i ever changed my rcfile (let alone know i could change it) .

I suppose i can access it via Morgue/Rcfiles/crawl-0.22/
but then what ?

Make sure you're logged into an online server. On the page, next to each version button under "Play now:" should be an "(edit rc)" button. Click the one for 0.22, and the rcfile opens. Scroll to the very beginning and press enter to add a line or two to be the very first of the file, then type or paste in the line. Click save, and you're ready to play.

This is how it works on CUE, at least. Other servers may have different layouts, but the basic idea should be the same.

Since I'm a little late to the party I don't mind playing on the miners.  Hopefully I can bag a couple of orbs and maybe, just maybe, pull off a 15-rune run.

If you can pull a 15-rune, it's probably better to start the other expert team rather than join the intermediate one.

Everyone needs to update their (.22) Rc file.  Heya pete if a spot opens up we'll put you in champs, so far only one person has signed up for champions in RC.  If not gail will add you in.

Well, I'll move up if they don't get on the team, but I don't want to bump anyone, it's always good to have new blood on the champions team.  If there's any interest for second expert team I could lead it, but if there isn't I don't really want to have a team all to myself.
