So after using my years-long experience with Crawl to circumvent the biggest hurdle any Troll faces, or in other words randomly stumbling into a spellbook with Statueform, I sheepishly went into Swamp, with 14% failure rate on my Statueform.

Of course, on Swamp:1 I run into Louise, who of course Abysses me on the first attempt, despite my ring of MR.

She sends me on Abyss:3, right outside a rune vault. A rune vault with potions of flight, a corridor with water, and a catoblebas on the far end. Who can do nothing to me because I can cast statueform.

went for 3rd rune in slime pits, reached slime3  already gained loses temper often, got 4potions of mutation tempted to pop them, wanna save them for zot though, any chance berserkeritis isn't as awful as it sounds for a melee character?

edit: nevermind I found my way down to slime5, and got 2more bad mutations, so, yeah, it's time to pop that first potion of mutation and pray. Darn shining eyes I hate you.

went from 5 (or was it 6) bad mutations, to 4bad mutations and 2 good mutation, but at least all my bad mutations are things i can cope with, instead of certain doom...

Starting to wish I'd never come to the slime pits, f you slime pits!

edit2: even slime5 had my shining eyes, gained "    You are somewhat resistant to further mutation. "  not sure if this is good or bad for me, probably good? Although I wish I'd drank two potions in a row right before this, I don't want to have to try to win with 4+ bad mutations. Starting to think vault5<slime5


edit3: went from 5 bad mutations, to 4bad mutations and 2 good mutation, but at least all my bad mutations are things i can cope with, instead of certain doom... decided this wasn't worth it, tried to flee, accidentally took the wrong stairs, now scrolls take longer to read (ran into more eyes), which I cannot abide by, but I only have two potions of mutation left, not sure I can afford to gamble more, that said I do benefit from rC and rF due to mutations, ugh

looking for anymore tips or advice, this certain win is starting to look like a certain loss, should've done vault5 instead of slime5, since i had no mutation resistance and only a few potions? think i'll try depths or crypt next and decide on my 3rd rune later. heck at this point maybe abyss is easier? (yes it's high risk but I think at this point i need luck to win...)

edit4: there is a bazaar, permanent portal, I've been holding off visiting till I have more money, but a potion shop could be clutch, maybe I should visit it now? I don't want to visit too early, because after I leave it's gone for good?

edit5: I definitely should've done the depths first, regardless of where I got my 3rd rune, rookie mistake, not even following the right order, I guess this is what makes me a rookie, heh.

I landed a Demigod Fighter(no magic) as my first win of tourney and first win ever in DG.

Then I streaked almost 3 wins in a row but died to herpy derpy no reason moment with my gargoyle with max all res and 5x MR+++++ to the paralyzing eyes which ignore mr  in depths/boggart.

Welp the longest and most painful game of this tournament for me ended with a death in Slime as I tried to dive for the altar.

Godless troll, with no statueform, no magic resistance (which was my downfall, as Slime was absolutely swarming with golden eyes), nothing.

Wow did I not enjoy any part of this experience at all

Not a SINGLE ring of poison resistance, i had to do all vault, and all shoals, and all Depths until i finally came to one to do spiders.
Well, i finally had a good weapon, something to work with.
And, while fighting against monsters, i was full life, just a vampire and an ettin. Lvl 24, so nothing to worry about. I was paralysed. 8 turns. couldn't do anything. I just died. that was the most awful death i ever had !! After all I had to endure and all the stress, finaly when this is over...

Got my first win of the Tournament! Mostly thanks to Okawaru pulling some nice stuff out of his closet for me, like a +7 great mace that causes {inner flame} on any enemy it hits (loud but very useful when the stair dancing fails!), as well as a set of +10 and a set of +11 gold dragon scale armor with various resists. Ended with 4 runes!

Also, I saw the Abyssal rune when I was banished during my Orb run, but it was through a window and I couldn't get to it! Oh well, 4 runes is enough for me
