Battle Report 2, 1901This year was not as good as the first, but it did provide us with some valuable lessons. We may have failed to make the
Tefnut-Class Brigantine which was a complete and utter disaster in almost every way possible, but at least we made something that works well enough for now in the form of our work looking into
Naval Cannon Technology. While the question and work was fairly simple, we made the best out of the little time we had and have a force of ships that should be good enough for dealing with whatever the Khari's have for the next year or two. And surely, with that self proclaimed priest to Set that ruined the inside of a temple to Shai dealt with, we should have a good next year in our work.
Interestingly enough, the invaders seem to have only one thing out in the open for us to see, much like last year. This time, they have worked on something we have found out was simply called the
1901 rifle improvement, it was a project presumably to improve their rifle that was fielded in small numbers, and from reports from the battle field, the additions they have made make the rifle faster firing, more accurate, and all round better than our own. It also unfortunately seems to be used against us in large numbers as well, but at least our own rifle can put up an okay fight against it, though we might have to address this in the future.
Battle Report, Naval Combat: Naturally, actually having proper ships with cannons is much better at sinking things than just using bows and arrows or our rifled muskets. Of course, our ships have the issue of more or less being the same speed as the enemy, but luckily the forward facing cannons help with that regard, but if the enemy finds out that they are in fact sighting an enemy ship on the horizon before they get into range of our guns, there isn't much they can do. Even so, we sunk quite a few of them early in this year but ever since they seem to sail away the second we can see them, and that alone means even an unarmed ship can scare them away. Still, our ships are mostly meant for transport, and we cant make full use of our advantage,
but we at least have secured a Major Advantage in disrupting the enemy's shipping both through delay's and actually sinking their ships.Battle Report, Island Mountains. Attackers, Nafuna: It was best to use our advantages to push the mountains on the island, especially when we have something that is causing the Kari's headaches at the sea, and that is exactly what we have done. Our cannons can be used up in the mountains, and the enemy can use their own as well, however, they are both used for a more defensive role than an offensive one, in fact, outside of ambushes, they are purely defensive, causing the unstable rocks of the avalanche prone mountains to go tumbling down on the Kari's heads. However, we have a bad issue when it comes to our soldiers, they cant shoot as well as the enemy. This is not due to issues with training or anything, but their equipment, as the invaders of the north have made a few adjustments to their gun, and said adjustments lead to them not only being more accurate, but faster firing than our own. Needless to say, both of these things are bad, but we have a major advantage they don't, and that is getting new soldiers and ammo on time to the front, which our enemy clearly doesn't thanks to our work at the sea. Over time, they lost more and more that they couldn't replace, and fired more and more they couldn't replace. In fact, some even still used the bow and arrow, presumably to conserve ammo for use in longer ranged fighting. However, despite all of this, the Kari's are actually quite a painful little thing to remove from our lands, as proven in the past, and
by a thread, they manage to hold their ground by the arrival of the new year. [Nafuna 2/4, Karikhita 2/4]Battle Report, Villages. Attackers, Karikhita: Fighting here is more difficult than before, while our soldiers are only on the defensive here and can still kill a Kari with a single shot as easily as before, with their new guns they are able to load their guns faster than we can, and that is the main reason why we have issues here. Of course, them being more accurate than before also helps them but that isn't as bad here. They however, seem to have forgotten that when it comes to cannons, the Seth Demi-Culverin is the best one on the continent, and here unlike the mountains or swamps, we can use our cannons to full effect. As stated before, they deal with the Kari's cannons quite well, along with their soldiers, however, more often now than before, our cannon crews are taken out by fire from the enemy. This still isn't that often to really hamper our efforts, but it is something to be concerned about. As one might expect from all of this, the enemy's new gun is able to even the amount of losses here, and forces our cannon to pick up the slack our smaller arms are leaving behind, but despite these issues,
the enemy doesn't have enough of an advantage to push us back and the line holds, mostly due to our cannons [Nafuna 3/4, Karikhita 1/4]Battle Report, Swamps. Attackers, Nafuna, Karikhita: We attacked here for a few reasons, but came to find a few issues due to the unforeseen events of this year. Our cannon armed ships, specifically the smallest ones we have, can in fact help here, however, they are very limited in what places they actually can help, and unfortunately the enemy doesn't really engage these ships often in the slightest and when they do they usually just move away under the cover of the plant life, and that's if they don't see it before it sees them. Another thing that is an issue for us is the fact that their cannons aren't actually able to help us here anywhere near as much as in the mountains or in the villages, and as such most of the time our soldiers have to try to ambush the enemy to have a chance, something that proves quite difficult to do, all things considered. As far as we know, their gun is less reliable than our own gun, but its obviously reliable enough as its not that much of a problem for our enemy. Of course, in the few defensive positions that have our cannon, they are unable to advance, however, those places are limited, and usually can be surrounded once nearby defenses with ground not solid enough for a cannon fall to their attacks.
Because of this, our forces are forced back to where we started last year, for the time being at least. [Nafuna 2/4, Karikhita 2/4]Outside world and Internal affairs: The Europeans in the field of archeology have been quite inquisitive as of late, but have thanked us in our help in expanding their knowledge of our ancient culture. However, recently, some other Europeans, priests of a foreign faith, have come and tried to convert a few of our people in worship to their god. Though, they haven't exactly done a particularly good job of it, and most Nafuni who read their holy book will find that some parts of it, specifically in the 'old' part of it, are not exactly kind to our ancestors or our gods, and plenty claim these parts are simply complete and utter slander. Still, while they aren't doing anything wrong most people aren't exactly too happy with them, and most ignore them. In other news Queen Victoria's funeral takes place in St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, England. In Bremen an assassin attempts to kill Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid rob train of forty thousand dollars at Wagner, Montana. The first claimed powered flight, by Gustave Whitehead in his Number 21 in Fairfield, Connecticut, happened. And Guglielmo Marconi attempts to send the first transatlantic radio signal, from Poldhu in Cornwall to Newfoundland, Canada using a 500-foot (150 m) kite-supported antenna for reception.
Khopesh: A classic short sword design we have not forgotten even after all these years, the major difference between it and the original is the use of steel instead of iron or bronze and it is much sharper then what we had before. Costs 1 Ore-Cheap
Composite Bow: A favorite antique of both our own troops and our enemy, it is a simple bow that is able to pack a good punch, it comes a quiver. They aren't really used anymore outside of ceremonies. Costs 1 Wood -Cheap
Thoth Mk.1 Flintlock Rifle: A domestically produced rifled musket that, while still obsolete everywhere but here, is the most advanced thing on the island next to our cannon and their own rifle. Comes with a cleaning kit and a few other things can be added to it, though some of these additions are limited to officers. Sadly, is still inaccurate on a chariot.
Seth Demi-Culverin: A cannon of our own design, its light and reliable, able to work even in harsh conditions. Fires about two and a half shots per minute and is crewed by five people. Costs 2 Ore, Cheap
Armed Merchant Ship: A Merchant ship of varying size with a varying amount of cannons on it depending on the size. Can have two to six cannons strapped onto it. Highly effective, if only because the enemy doesn't have anything of their own. Costs 2 Ore, 1 Wood, Cheap.
Mongol Sabre: A old sword design that has served our enemy well even after all these years, It can be used on horseback just as well as it can be used on foot. Unlike our Khopesh, its remained the same all these years.
Composite Bow A favorite and beloved antique, it is a simple bow that is able to pack a good punch, it comes a quiver.
Karikhitan Flintlock Rifle: A domestically produced rifle, obsolete elsewhere except for here, surprisingly accurate for some reason currently unknown to us. Luckily, its still not efficient on horseback.
Shonkhor 4kg Cannon: A heavy and powerful cannon that's only weighed down by its weight, which is only an issue in combat. Its fairly reliable from what we have seen, but requires a fairly large cannon crew.
It is now the Design Phase, The armies of the Pharaoh will do their best with what they have.
