Champion position bugged?
« on: July 03, 2018, 03:18:49 pm »

After I retired/unretired my fort for fps reasons, I found that my normal champion (legendary swordsmaster, spearmaster, mace lord, hammer lord, etc, etc) was demoted to captain of the guard and the new champion is a mediocre doctor missing a leg. Strangely, I can't replace him with the intended champion (or anyone at all for that matter). I'm going to send him away because it turns out he's been punching overstressed dwarfs in his tantrums, but does anyone else have a bug like this?

Unretired fortresses have lots of issues. I don't think I've heard of those before, though.

Interesting. I've never really had issues with unretired forts besides the obvious (cleanup, the forgotten beasts held in a zoo in the dining hall escaping due to an unconstructed wall, etc) and the typical burst of lag to 0.2 fps for an in-game day about a week after unretiring.

You've never seen explosions of visitors, "hostile" (only not) residents and merchants hanging out with their wagons in the tavern clogging up the citizens list? At least you should be able to banish them now, which might help.

nope. One time my fort supposedly (according to the civ screen but not anywhere else) captured nearly two dozen elves while the goblins imprisoned in a sealed vault simply disappeared, but I don't really get non-migrant visitors in the first place. Well, I did, but the last was more two years ago (instead of once a season or more frequently) and 5/6 of them are dead/insane after becoming citizens.

After retiring the positions get shuffled.
Not being able to reassign is likely because you do not have whoever they are appointed by (baron, I think).

I once had no expedition leader for a year, and I couldn't even assign a broker.

a new mayor was elected, died in a berserker fight, and then was replaced by the old mayor who finally came back to the fort. Then a dude got himself made king so now I have a king and a mayor.
Eagerly awaiting the champion and manager positions showing up on my nobles screen again...
