Are ASCII graphics not retro enough for you?

Is the wonderful CRTEGA graphics pack not taking you back far enough?

Do you miss the time of do-it-yourself  8) rock 'n' roll  8) electronics?

Then our CANDY-TECH VFD-45-80 is for you!
Our efficient vacuum fluorescent display provides 200 lumens per character at 6V and 200 mA. At 45 lines of 80 characters (1080), each character a fun packed 7x7 dot matrix, the CANDY-TECH VFD-45-80 fits all of your DISPLAY needs.

Note: I also like Vherid's Lazer and Ash color schemes with this set. Infact, my monochrome sets are heavily inspired by his Ash colors.

Some Goals next week: Mess with transparency options for the inactive dots to produce a slightly finer dot matrix.
Mess with the LCD character array color scheme.

Nice! This tileset is the next best thing to the (fictional) array of character LCDs that I (don't) use to display DF.

Incidentally, are there DF players who routinely use a monochrome or grayscale palette?

Just turn the contrast down on your LCD display.   ;D

I'll use a monochrome color scheme if I'm not using a graphics set. The default color scheme with default ASCII is a bit hard on my eyes.

Subject: CANDY-TECH VFD-45-80-std Order and Amber Color Options

The CT-VFD-std was selected by our engineers for its durability and low costs. Our company is interested in brokering a manufacturing order with Candy-Tech.

Unfortunately, the current color options do not fulfill all of our needs. If your company can produce an amber colored display, Raeborga Inc. would be interested in purchasing 50,000 units.

RE: CANDY-TECH VFD-45-80-std Order and Amber Color Options

Our engineers have formulated phosphors which meet both the color requirements and our rigorous durability requirements. Tooling is complete and manufacture starts this work week.

Candy-tech is excited to have helped another customer. We hope to broker future deals.

Should any issues arise, please contact your Candy-Tech Rep.

"I am very satisfied with my order. Shipped fast and was exactly what I paid for. I would recommend this to any working class soccer mom seeking amber dots in their leisure-times."

Perfect! I will try. But first I need to learn how to use it in my DF.

I found this old panel behind an old office building. A sticker on the back is labeled
Candy-Tech Ind.
40,46,-72 Magma Sea
Eribronstiz, Region34
It smells of dried elf blood, is stained with dried elf blood, has a small nick in the corner, and has a burned in image of a giant spider made of ash, with glowing pink eyes, throwing an elf corpse at a squad of hammerdwarves (wait, why do I know what dried elf blood smells like? How can I tell it was made of ash from burn-in?). I got it hooked up to 5V, and it powers on. I am so making a retro themed MAME console with this, once I can figure out the pinout and address scheme.

But seriously, this is a cool tileset. I realized, when trying to move to a newer LNP that I had been using this tileset for weeks, without changing anything. I use normal colors with it, of course. As someone that has tried different sets over the years, and lately days or weeks, only to go right back to Mayday again an again, for a decade, that's saying something. That I need more therapy than my starting miner, who almost got killed by a reanimated cobra tooth, while flooring over where the wagon used to be (100 evil and savagery; drastic measures were needed), sure, but also something about the graphics set. It's very comfortable to my eyes, unlike plain ASCII, or most ASCII-like tilesets, but still has a degree of distinction between tiles that 'clicks' with my brain.

Simple as it is, it was easy to add to my LNP, too.

I love this community, and the graphics folks especially.

Everything from ASCII, Embellished-ASCII, grim-dark, neon bubble, 8-bit style, 16-bit style, high-resolution 32px, LCD segment style, and now retro-dot display.  And so many others I forget to mention. It warms my heart.

Beautiful work.

BucketsofBuckets and Wannabehero, ya'll both made my day today! I'm glad you find genuine use out of the tileset, which admittedly was a bit of a gimmick in-line with other retro sets. I actually saw a 7 segment display set today too. An idea I had, but abandoned cuz it wasn't looking good. That one looks far better!

PTW, since I like the look of this and it'd be perfect for something I wanna make as like a "janky home-made tactical display" sort of look. Well done.  :)
