Nyw pauses for several seconds, considering.  "I will be fine.  I am not alone, as I am taking Gus and Baxter with me, though you may come if you think it is wise.  You are right, there is no need to get the money immediately.  There are some purchases I intend to make before we leave the city, but we have time.  Do as you think best, Kara.  I trust you to remember."

If you no longer need the beetle corpse, can I have it? The carapace might be useful for making something. Now that the raid is done, how do we go about finding a crystal conduit? Also, do you retain the minds of the bodies that were converted, or does a new mind form after your creation? Do crystals without bodies think?
If Clate doesn’t object, take the pieces of the beetle
Take the liv9ng beetles as well

"Is there anything you need that would help you work better? We got a lot of Crystal materials now so Clate could shape you some weapons or armor."

By all means, take them. You may have the three remaining beetles as well, if you wish. My experiment is done, I have no further use for them.

An excellent question. Our best bet to find a conduit is to find another crystal ruin to explore. Or perhaps we can go to the ruin at the molten heart directly. But perhaps our companions would rather do something else first rather than delve further into the secrets of the crystal. We can wait, we have time.

I'm afraid the experiment was both a success and a failure on that count. I did create a golem that is almost exactly like the beetle. But nothing of the beetles mind remains. It seems that this method only retains the physical form, but the subject effectively dies. This beetle is, in essence, no different from any other crystal golem.

Yes, but also no? In days past, the overmind was connected to all of us. Crystal people had individual minds, but also shared a communal link through the overmind. It is difficult to describe, as I have only had a glimpse of it and not experienced it fully myself. Like a hivemind, but the individual subjects are not wholly mindless.

Yes, by all means. I would be more than happy to shape crystal armaments and items for my comrades.

1. Just making sure, but the crystal beetle is just a golem, right? Nothing of its original mind remains?

2. Inspect my newly made crystal beetle. Does it have any special skills, attacks? Is it in any way different from my other babies?

3. Assuming I can grab some stone from in or around the bore, make myself a weapon that gets benefit from my 'stone blade' combat skill. Just, focus on that and let the voice of the crystal shape my work, see what I end up with.

AsHul boulders into the medicary and shoves people aside, then stares down at whatever is left of Alex.
"I already put you back together once, didn't I?"

Dive: Focus on restoring the chest to a working state
Telazch -> Udyne reinforce Telazch 2x, Udyne 4x
Path: 4
Reinforcements: 6
Total Nerve rolls: 10
Final Endurance roll, Final Nerve roll
There's some question as to whether this will be at advantage or not, in the Discord

[9 + 9 + 9 + 5 + 8 + 14 + 7 + 9 + 11 + 15 ][20][14][8]

With a series of cracks and pops, and the strange squishing sound of rapidly growing flesh Alex's chest regenerates.  Something goes wrong though; as the ribcage inflates, the damaged heart moves with it, skin, heart and bone repairing and merging. The result is a heart covered in a thin layer of skin, impaled on ribs yet still functioning, as though it had been pulled from his chest and laid back upon it in a gruesome sacrificial ritual.

((I rolled for my level up already, only cunning improved.))

Look up to take a look at what's dragging me back up.
Spoiler: Alex Wells (click to show/hide)
You see a halo of people. They look familiar but you don't remember them. You don't remember anything. They're pulling you up on silver cords, up away from the depths and into the light.

You wake up, groggy and confused, the memories of your life spilling back into your head in a chaotic flood. You have a vague recollection of the fall, like a dream, but it is fading even now.

Lvl-up 'applied' >:/

If my help with the patient is still needed, stay here and continue to provide wizard eye assistance.

If not, survey the scene outside. Anything remain of any of our assailants, or any of their stuff? Could I perhaps find a clue as to where they were planning to run off to?

(Oz, I'm assuming you will be taking care of the dive for Alex, but if not or if you'd like help, let me know and I can edit my action.)

Spoiler: Adam Blavatsky Darvaza (click to show/hide)
Theres really nothing left behind by the assault, at least nothing at the scene. The mole's self destruct and the lava seem to have wiped the slate clean, such as it is.

Rolled my levelup in IRC, got +Cunning +Nerve.

Take the bond that is our reward money from Alex, and shove it at Kara.  Tell her to go redeem it or get someone else to redeem it.  It's worth 3000, from Alex negotiating it upward.  Then leave the bore and return to the police station, with the two sidekick kids, and the two ground-level drug distributors that we've captured.  Turn in both of the criminals, along with the 25 vials of haze that was confiscated from them.  Try to find someone to negotiate with about changing the prison sentence of some of the inmates that have been arrested on drug charges, as well--Nyw promised some of those inmates that he'd try and help them out in exchange for their help with the investigation, and changing their sentence to "community service" under his watch seems like a great way to fulfill that promise.

...Also, just keep an eye on how the cultists are being treated.  Nyw still does not trust this police force.

[12]
Through some negotiation but mostly intimidation you manage to get the prisoners arrested on drug charges put under your care. Your trade of the other criminals and haze helps bring this to fruition.  As per the treatment of the cultists, most have been let go  already as there's no evidence they perpetrated any wrongdoing.  The rest are being brought up on a variety of charges from conspiracy to drug trafficking. Luckily your intimidation and general state as an Honored Dead prevents them from trying to levy any fines or prosecution against you or the bore.

"Umm... OK. Are you sure you're going to be fine on your own? Maybe you should take Clate or Adam with you as backup, in case you encounter more divers or ranged combatants. Or maybe you can escort me to the bank and then I can escort you to the police station. Or I can always go and cash the money out later, it's not like we really need them right now. We could even take the crawler."

Lock the 3000 fathom check in the Nomad's storage area and then go follow Nyw. Or drive him there with the crawler, whatever works best.

Irrelevant, how good is the banking system in the underground? Could we open an account here and then withdraw the money in Empyrean, for example?

Spoiler: "Kara" the Corven (click to show/hide)
The Shlucks have an intercity banking system that should work almost anywhere.

1. Yes
2. It appears to be able to do everything a beetle can do. And nothing more
3. The crystal is far, and it never used swords to start with, so what you end up with is basically a single terminated crystal rod with all its edges and its point sharpened. [cut 3, pierce 3, fragile]

Alex, can you hear me? Hey buddy, we almost lost you there, Ashul had to perform a quick dive just to keep you alive! Unfortunately though, it seems the spheres were feeling somewhat fickle today, so the result is... les than optimal."

Do any of the remaining cultists know anything about that dive-protected chest we found? If yes, interrogate and try to at least determine which dives were put on it, and if it has other defenses or hidden mechanisms.

If not, consider the amount of reinforcements a dive with Yengenze and Ah (since I don't know for sure if anyone who knows about those enchantments is still alive to summon the info from with Xi, unless that isn't necessary) would need to gain knowledge about the various dives and enchantments that are placed on that chest.

Finally, consider for how much moolah we could sell off those opals we got from the ruins (assume we'd sell them in another city and do it in several transactions, not all at once).

"While my armor could perhaps be improved... I do not wish to change it.  If it isn't enough, then I will accept my wounds.  I do not need any additional weapons, either.  Though..." Nyw's tone grows contemplative "Perhaps Clate could craft a companion to my murakumo.  I am not certain why, but it feels lonely.  I am not the kind of warrior to use a shield, but a second blade would... hrn.  Yes.  Yes, I would like a second murakumo."

"But forget that for a moment.  It is admirable that you wish to have been able to protect Alex.  Maybe you could have helped if you were there, or taken the blow for him, though I worry that you would not have survived it as well.  Your value to this crew is not your power, like myself, but your mind, little bird.  If you can help when power is needed, that is wonderful, but you should not feel guilty if you cannot.  You help in other ways, you are capable of many things that I am not."  Nyw nods as he looks down at Kara, knocking an armored fist against his thick breastplate as he continues.  "If some of the crew is injured in battle, I should be the one to blame, I am little if I am not a shield for those who are vulnerable.  Perhaps you should feel guilty if you lead us into a trap, but do not judge yourself because you weren't there to protect someone.  You are much more than a lost corpse, you have a strong mind and a long life yet to be lived."

Stay with Adam while he interrogates cultists, and when he does that dive.  Continue being a giant zombie wearing plate mail--that is, intimidating.

Ponder momentarily whether it wold be better to use telzach Sige (alteration) to alter Alex' chest so that things are in the right places, or wether Telzach Undyne would be best. Do whichever AsHul deems simplest and most likely to succede. Dive options in the spoilers below.

Clate slithers over to Nyw, as much as large crystalline squid can slither. It's quite scratchy, really, probably leaving scuff marks on the floor.
Would you like an exact copy of your current weapon? Or something slightly different that complements it?

If Nyw doesn't specify otherwise, inspect his murakumo and attempt to make a copy with stoneforming

Also attempt to turn the crystal beetle golem I made last turn into a combat golem. Let the crystal decide what constitutes a combat golem and see what I end up with.

Also also reuse the materials of the crystal weapon I made last turn, and this time let the crystal voice guide me into making a weapon that it is familiar with. The last attempt turned out shoddy because the crystal has no real knowledge of swords and biped weapons in general, so now just go for "weapon"instead

Adam is not very intimidating but so you play bad cop and scare some info out of the moths. Most still honestly don't know but one says that the chest has papers in it. He saw them putting the papers in there before. He's not sure what they're about.

You consider things. Putting the heart back through undo is likely easier but has the downside of undoing an undo. If everything goes right you should be able to warp things back to how they were before the injury, but if you're off then you might just be ruining his chest all over again. You decide to risk it; better than attempting a full recreation of something you're unfamiliar with.

[20 + 1 + 4 + 2 + 13 + 2 + 17 + 6 + 11 + 17] -1 nerve
[15][14]

Alex's chest reknits in a way that looks...mostly correct at least. He's a bit lumpy here and there but he doesn't have an exposed heart so thats a success in your book!

[10] You make a duplicate, however while it has the same damage stats, it is also [Fragile] just like the murokumo was before it was strengthened with diving.

[7] You somehow make it so this beetle thing can fire those energy beams  from its little crystal mouth. Not even really sure how.

Crystal beings generally didn't use weapons, they used stone shaping to warp their environment or themselves as needed at the moment. Ever seen an earthbender? Nevermind.  That or they projected the power of the crystal like your laser babies here. You can do that too.

Your new armament, friend Nyw. It would seem that you did something magical to your current sword that I could not replicate with my crystal powers, but it should otherwise be a perfect copy.

Ok then, time to do that dive. First go into the city and buy items that can be used as a sacrifice, would like to get enough for +1 (how much money?). And could you tell me what kind f items Adam would be buying?

Then perform dive on the bore to be able to roll at advantage, but first ask if at least Nyw can be there to oversee in case something goes wrong. Make sure to actually sacrifice the items I bought to get that +1.

Dive path: move to Yengenze, then to Ah, reinforce 3 times and 1 time respectively as you indicated.

EDIT: and give relic fragment back to Rhea for the moment.
