So, what’s the plan for the Ancient Warrior? What do I do during it?

"You are free t oact as yo usee fit. However, as you are a new team member, and your reliability in combat is unknown to us, it would be wise of you to remain at a safe distance and, if you wish to help, do so by supporting those of us who will be directly confronting the enemy. Perhaps you can carry ammo, or be ready with a stretcher to haul the wounded to safety?

Whatever you do, I suggest you avoid Diving during this combat. The last time we faced this Ancient Warrior, a failed Dive complicated the battle and forced a retreat. I do not believe we would have won that battle without that misstep, as we were unaware of the creature's regenerative system, but the enemy did use the results of that Dive to cause us further grief.

However, if you are able to successfully enchant items before the battle, creating shields against plasma, explosives, or mindwiping would be useful. Yours need not be as powerful as my own, as I am sure the majority of our team does not intend to get as close to the action as Alex does."

Rest off the Silent Night. Purchase one of each Silent Night and Worm's Blood (8 Fathoms total). Inventory edited.

"I have done all I can to prepare for our next encounter with the Ancient Warrior. I am ready to proceed. Hmm, unless someone has a cloak or boots I could attempt to enchant to increase the wearer's speed? A hasty exit would make the protections from the explosive less necessary."

Okie Dokie

Build a cart for the safe and quick transport of the Ancient Warrior killing bomb. Keep the design minimalistic since it's not going to survive the explosion anyway.

-3 structural, -1 mechanical.  Done. Rickety, but functional.

Go test the Telegrabber on some cans or rocks or something, just to make sure I wasn't scammed. I've listed it as requiring rifle skill, since it's a stick with an enchanted trigger, but I can change it to something else if it's not the appropriate skill.

Be sure to empty the box after the test so I can reuse it later.

Hmmm. For that matter, can I use the Telegrabber without a box? You know, use it to reach things my inconsiderate teammates have put on the top shelf.

It works.

However trying to use it without the containers, I'm not sure how that would work. Its linked to those containers if I remember the spell right.

Give 60 Fathoms to the team fund

So, what’s the plan for the Ancient Warrior? What do I do during it?
Done

Stick with Adam for now.
If we're back on the bore this turn, maybe see if I can make a few (2-4) small golems. All they have to be able to is move fast and carry a black flame and/or explosive charge.

Also, 500 fathoms for the team fund

Spoiler: Clate (click to show/hide)
[13]
You create a 3 small golems. They're something like ticks; lots of jumping and skittering and not much else, with a black flame mounted on their "head". Quick and expendable.

[15:02] Mr.Bones: Since you're in a call room in a church, there should be a box near you. Put anything you want to give to him in that box.

Since nobody objected to the terms: place into that box all the documents we have pertaining the cult, as well as that mystery chest. Then accept their payment, thank the disciple for his time and return to the bore.

Then, before we leave and if none of my teammates object, use team fund to buy and install a spare fuel tank in the bore (40 fathoms). Make sure that it is installed separate from the main fuel tanks and has a valve that normally is closed (in case we ever have a leak in the main tanks).

Then fill up this tank (50) and refill our main tank (50).

Ok. So where we going? Back to Empyrean? Back to the Ancient Warrior? Down to see Mrs. Bird's ancestors?
Ancient warrior please.

Okie dokie.

(93 spaces covered by my count, all on paths)

The bore returns to the new messenger path, retracing the steps it took to get there the first time, traveling through the same tunnels it had carved out as well. The messenger path looks quite different from the last time you were here though; there are no signs of Antediluvians, their work now apparently done. Instead the place is swarming with pilgrims of all sorts, as well as moths and other independent researchers.  Slowly moving clusters of robed pilgrims flanked by armed Church soldiers are trundling down the steep declines and climbing steel ladders up to chambers sunken in the upper walls. The smells of incense, oil, and sweat are thick in the air, and there is a constant dull roar of hushed voices and murmured exclamations. And indeed the place does seem worthy of their praises: all the roughness of before is gone, replaced by a golden majesty. Every inch is engraved or bedecked with statues or gilded murals depicting unknown history. Its so much packed so densely that no matter where you look, there is just more. It hurts your eyes if you look at it too long, eyes struggling to focus on everything and failing.

Carrying an obvious bomb into here might raise some eyebrows...

Load the bomb into the crawler. Try not to look like a tourist attraction or pilgrimage destination. Hide in the crawler and hope they let us through to the non-touristy parts without asking too many questions.

Can we assume we'd refuel just before entering the messenger path and refuel this as well?

Either way, assist with loading the bomb into the crawler, and make sure Adam is inside the crawler while we are in the crowded area. Use wizard eyes to look around though and see what kind of neat things there are to see.

Also, question: our bore cannon, can this thing be dismounted and carted around 'manually'? Or is it integrated into the bore firing systems?

"Nyw, can you help clear the way and keep an eye out for trouble until we get to the less crowded parts?"

Load the bomb into the crawler while it's still in the bore, so we don't attract attention. Then simply exit the bore with the crawler and start making our way towards the cist. Depending on how big the bomb is, some people might have to walk alongside the crawler. However both Adam and AsHul should remain inside the crawler at all times so that we don't get crowded by fangirls pilgrims.

Kara will man the Bore Piercer mounted on the crawler while wearing her Crystal shroud and she'll be on the lookout for anything suspicious. She'll also provide illumination using her Dynamo Lantern, if necessary. Hopefully seeing that we're well armed will deter any Ne'er-do-wells from trying anything.

However if there isn't enough room for her on the crawler she'll ride alongside it on Crystal Friend and help clear the way. She'll make sure to only take her weapons and leave her valuables inside the crawler while in the crowded sections since she knows better than to risk being pickpocketed.

Load the cart into the crawler along with the bomb and also grab one of the bomb collar remotes. Find the person in charge of the church soldiers here and negotiate with them for entry without an escort.

Join the away team, along with Gus or Baxter--take whichever one volunteers, or flip a coin.  Walk in front of the crawler and clear people out of its path.  If people complain or ask about what we're doing, apologize and say something vauge about it being the business of Justice.  Don't, uh, don't mention that we're going to bomb a being on a divine power level...

"We must navigate these crowded Paths for a while before we get to our destination, which is hopefully free from aspirants, pilgrims, and hucksters. Present company excluded. It does not seem altogether considerate to Dive amidst the throngs of the reverent. Once we are free of the masses, you might have a better opportunity to do so."

((just put a stipulation in your action to Dive when we are not surrounded by people and have a moment of quietness. If PW deems that there are no times like that before we get to the Cist, then we might delay the opening until you've had a go at enchantment, assuming we aren't thronged by a mob. If we are thronged by a mob, Dive to your heart's content :P

Of course, as said, you can Dive whenever, preferably not on the Bore, but whatever.))

Sure. You can assume refilling at any city you like.

The bore cannon can be removed, but it is designed for use with the bore as is. You could juryrig a system for manual firing and such but "out of the box" its an integrated weapon.

Like before, this entire place is basically absence of space to your eyes. Their inability to see "magic" means this entire place is a wash for your special vision.

Everyone loads the bomb into the crawler and then proceeds out, most of them in the crawler itself with Nyw and Gus out front, waving people to the side. Even though the bomb is hidden, the heavily armed crawler with an Honored Dead escort does draw some attention. No one really says anything or tries to stop the advance, but you can all definitely hear people whispering and talking to each other about the procession. And some, silently, begin following you. Not a lot, but enough that by the time you're growing near the cist you have a trailing collection of about two dozen people all excitedly speculating what you're doing here. You make it all the way down to the dark and fleshy tunnel leading to the cist before stopping. The followers stop a good 30 feet away and bunch up, still talking and gesturing at the crawler as they do.

There are a lot of snippets of talk that Kara and Nyw, from their positions on the ground or manning the gun respectively, catch. It seems the group following is convinced you're some sort of Church team here to do something important, but they differ on what they think that is. Some think you're here to transport a relic, others that you're clearing antediluvians, and still others that you're an exploration team sent to map out a dangerous section.  Judging from what else they're saying it seems like a lot of this path is unexplored, with only that top bit closest to the roads between cities being "occupied". Deeper sections are as of yet unmapped and are only lightly occupied by deepwalkers and "True Pilgrims".

Kara carefully raised her radio, speaking to it quietly so that the followers would not hear.

I could try convincing them they should keep their distance, for their safety. Or we could just scare them away, but I don't think that would help our reputation.
