Caveman Literature
« on: June 18, 2018, 07:42:49 pm »

I'm trying to come up with a silly forum game. The rules are provisional - we'll see what works and what doesn't. Suggestions are welcome, but may not necessarily be heeded.

The idea is to write a synopsis to, or describe a recognizable scene from, a well-known (use your judgement) story - may be literature or film, or whatever - in Caveman English.
Make it as long or as short as you like (again, use your judgement - try to keep it fun; it might mean three well-chosen words, or three paragraphs).
Other people then try to guess the title of the original story. Once it's successfully guessed, another person writes another bit.

The rules of the Caveman English are as follows:
- only nouns, verbs and adjectives (no pronouns, adverbs, determiners, conjunctions - the whole lot; if not sure, check with a dictionary)
- verbs only as infinitives
- adjectives only after nouns (also affects nouns acting as adjectives)
- no Saxon genitive
- no names of characters or places
- only one-syllable words
- only punctuation allowed is the full stop (period) sign, the exclamation mark and the question mark.

E.g. Luke Skywalker flew his space ship towards the Death Star. He fired his ship's torpedoes into the exhaust port, blowing up the battle station.
=
Man fly ship. Ball float space. Ball big. Ball bad. Man shoot hole. Ball make boom.

Additional rules:
- Posters can be asked to clarify the description given, but both the question and the response (insofar as they are relevant to the riddle) must be in Caveman.
- If you think it might not be guessed otherwise, indicate whether it's a novel or a film (or something else), and/or whether it's a scene or the whole story.
- Failure to keep to the rules of the language invalidates the riddle, and another poster may have a go (but do indicate the fault in the other guy's bit).

General rules:
- If more than one bit gets posted due to ninjitsu, wait until all are answered before posting another.
- If the answer given is obviously correct, you don't have to wait for confirmation before posting another bit.
- If no one guesses correctly after a day (?), anyone may then post another bit.

It's getting late here, so I'll let you guys start it off. We'll see if it floats.

I think you threw in an adverb in there - 'come close' - but we'll give it a pass.

Mine is an older film in a series, and I think full caveman made it impossible to guess.

Since the breaking of rules invalidates it, for those who wanna know it's

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And I can't for the life of me figure these other ones out.
